    Not losing weight

I have been on Alli for almost a month and have lost only 4.5 lbs.  I have lost inches but the lack of weight loss is bothering me.

I have followed the diet religiously and have most days kept my calorie count lower than the 1400 that I am allowed.

I also ride a stationary bike daily and lift weights (only 30 reps) one to two times a day.

How can I see a result on the scale?

losing inches is more important then the scale. I hop on the scale too, but if you are exercising and lifting then muscles weighs more.

    Re: Not losing weight

I've always said that I don't care if the scale says 200 as long as I LOOK like 120 :-)

I too will lose inches before the scale catches up with me and since I know that's the way I am, I'm fine with it. I really do use clothing as my weight loss guide. I always have a pair of "dream jeans" that I try on once a week. As soon as I'm able to wear them comfortably I find a new pair of dream jeans and work my way towards them. Since I am a professional dieter, I have jeans in every size known to man!

One thing I found is this....if I hit a plateau, I just add more protein to my meals for a few days and that seems to kick start things for me.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Not losing weight

Are you drinking enough water?  I have lost 9 lbs. in 4 weeks and lost inches too without exercise.  I am drinking 2 bottles of water with breakfast over a 30 minute period, another 2 bottles of water with lunch over a 30 minute period and another 2 bottles with dinner between 4 and 5 pm.  You will be running to the bathroom a lot but it may help.  Good luck. God bless.

    Re: Not losing weight

     SallyMax,

You are losing inches?  Well, You ARE succeeding.  Just remember that losing 1-2 pounds per week is the healthiest way to lose weight.  Studies have shown that people who lose weight faster than that also tend to gain it back.  You don't want that do you?  Anyhow, you are more than a number on a scale - the inches you have lost show your body is changing for the better!  Also, those of us with less weight to lose will lose pounds more slowly.  Keep up the good work!

    Re: Not losing weight

Hey Girl, don't give up!  I have been on Alli going on four weeks as of tomorrow. I didn't lose but 3 lbs the first 2 1/2 weeks and I really don't exercise because I have a very bad back and I am very limited on what activities I can do on a daily basis. Now, on the third check-in / weigh in, date, I hadn't lost anymore weight, I was still sitting at the same weight as I was the week before. Tomorrow being my 4th week I will weigh in again and I know I have lost a lot more the past week, just because my jeans are big on me now. :-)  I went to a Doctors appointment this morning and I got on the scale and I had lost 11 lbs. I started at 170 lbs and now I'm down to 158 lbs. For the most part I have cut out 90% of my fat in-take and I am still not exercising. So please, don't be discuraged, it will happen and when it does you will be so happy that you stuck with Alli. Good luck and Blessed Be.

    Re: Not losing weight

I'm bummed. I gained 2 pounds this week. And I did 45 minutes of cardio, sit ups, and 15 minutes of weights at least 5 times during the week. I keep seeing people losing 3-7 pounds every week. I'm so upset. I'm not giving up, but I can't figure out where I went wrong. I ate fish 3x's, had low fat meals. I probably did NOT eat 1800 calories, probably around 1200- 1500. So I'm not understanding this.

I'm hoping for a better week. I did manage to lose 12 pounds since November -- but I haven't lost an ounce since March. I was hoping this would kick start me again. This is the world's longest plateau, and now I just made the mountain higher.

    Re: Not losing weight

I too have not lost any weight.  My body always lose inches first.  I workout cardio 4 days a week and strength train 3 days a week.  Alli is working for me in a strange way.  My weight loss comes later...weird.  But that is how my body work.  So for now I am alright with this.

    Re: Not losing weight

I got stuck on my weight as well but figured out that I was not drinking enough water making my body retain water which as you know, weighs alot! Anyway, long story short, I increased my intake of water and the next morning when I weighed in I had lost 2 pounds! Also, if exercising, muscle weighs more so I go more by how my clothes are fitting more than the scale. Hang in there.

    Re: Not losing weight

Hi SallyMax, reading your message leaves some unanswered questions in my head, first off, how much weight are you doing 30 reps? And what was your starting weight? Remember, muscle weighs more then fat, so the more you work out, you loose inches (muscle is much smaller, but weighs more), but the fat weight loss goes down, because your gaining muscle, which is great, muscle burns calories quicker. And if your like only 20 or 30 pounds overweight, it will take you longer to lose, because you have less to lose, people who are like 100 pounds overweight, lose weight faster, till they get closer to their correct weight, then it does slow down. Hope this helps you!

Started weight : 285 lbs. size :26/28 goal weight: 180 lbs. (if get lower...great, if not...will be happy) current weight, as of 6-11-08 : 184 lbs., size 14/16
