Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

In the morning, I am always super busy (because I always get up late!)  I like to start my day with a can of Slimfast, a cup of coffee, and a banana or a peach.  Would this be okay?  My problem w/ food starts after supper, when I want to graze on chocolate, cookies, nuts, ice cream, or anything else that comes to hand.  I live alone and don't cook for myself very often, usually using WW dinners.  What is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad is that there isn't any one there to watch me stuffing my face with all the no-no's at night.  Any suggestions are welcome!!

Well, how much fat is in the slimfast? If it is low or no-fat then I would say it would be ok but kinda like wasting a pill. There isn't any fat in the fruit or coffee so you would need to find out what is in the slimfast.....What do you think?

I also use shakes occassionally in place of meals, but I find I am much more likely to make the wrong food choices later in the day if I use the shakes for breakfast. I find I really need to eat a solid meal for breakfast and then use the shakes for lunch or as a snack late afternoon if I had a small lunch. The shakes just don't have the ability to keep you satisfied for long, and for me that usually translates into being overly hungry late in the day which means eating whatever can't outrun me. lol.

    Sarah,

I am like you, my problem tends to be at night. I am reading a book that might really help you like it is helping me. It is called Life is Hard, Food is Easy, the author is Linda Spangle, RN, MA.  I know it is really helping me.

    Good Luck,

    Kim

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

We have so much in common! I love sweets and I love to sleep, and i prefer to have those extra sleep minutes in the morning rather than getting up and making breakfast. I also found Slimfast to be a quick option for breakfast, but the reality is sometimes that an hour after i had the shake i will feel craving something else. I decided to buy alli because i want to change my life style, and one of the things that i realized needs to change is my sleeping and breakfast habits. If i am going to try this, i better do it the right way and follow the intructions to get better results. So i am going to do my best effort to go to sleep earlier so that is easier to wake up earlier. I am going to start the meal plan on Monday 6/18/07 and start to take the pills on Thursday 6/21/07. Best of luck to you!

You sound like me, except my bad snack time is in the afternoons.  You should just not keep the stuff in the house.  I can't even have a box of those 100 cal snacks around because I just keep eating them.   I try to eat baby carrots or fat free microwaved popcorn.  Or drink a diet soda.  I would think it would be ok to drink Slim Fast as long as you work the fat & calories into your daily totals.

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

I am going to be useing the slimfast shakes with my alli plan.  I use the chocolate mix and it has 2g of fat per 160 calories.  I use skim milk to mix with it which does not have any fat.  I am not going to take alli with this meal because there is not very much fat and it would be a waste of the product.

I use the low carb slimfast which has higher protein. How many grams of protein in the powder?

    Thanks.

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

    Hi~

I was wondering the same thing, but I didn't get a response the other day.  If you add things to your slim-fast shake, you can get the calorie count and fat count up.  Today I had my shake with skim milk, 2 pieces of toast, margarine, yogart and a banana.  It got me to my calorie goal as well as my fat goal.  I try to make breakfast my big meal as I am not hungry the rest of the day.  But I agree with the above poster, if you are only using the shake and nothing else, the Alli pill is not serving it's purpose.

    Hope this helps,                                                                                                           Karen

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

I also would like to do the slimfast with fruit in the morning.  I use 2% milk, which has 5 grams of fat per cup....then I usually will go to the gym and when finished I have an energy bar, which has about 10 grams of fat, so it all will work out.  Hopefully.  I also am a snacker and midday or right before dinner is a horrible time for me.  I try to not eat anything, but have found that baby carrots and pickles help.  After dinner, or before bed snacking, I suggest to brush your teeth, it usually will deter you from eating anything, it does for me.

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

hey kaett - I use the vanilla Slimfast Optima powder. It has 3.5 grams of fat, and 2 grams of protein. I posted my favorite diet tip on other boards, but I love it so much, here it is again. Instead using skim milk to mix the powder with, I use a cup of nonfat Cool Whip. It helps my craving for ice cream, yet fills me just as a shake does.

Re: Using Slimfast liquid or similar product with the diet

I usually have SlimFast or a yoghurt for breakfast. I've been debating not taking a pill in the morning and just taking one for lunch dinner.
