    Re: Alli, Yaz and Penicillin...

Soory for the delay, it may take up to 24 hours for a post to be listed  and there have been a few technical problems.  For clarification purposes, you are encouraged to ask your doctor or pharmacist any questions about any new medications (prescription or over-the-counter),vitamins, supplements or herbal products you may be taking.

alli will not interact with Yaz or penicillin.

alli does not impact the efficacy of you birth control medicine. A clinical trial using orlistat in 20 normal body weight women taking birth control pills for 23 days found that orlistat had no effect on the ovulation suppression action of the birth control. Note that Yaz has a potassium sparing effect to it and weight loss, especially with an increase of diuresis and sweating (hot weather) your potassium levels may shift, this may be of concern  and its best to check with your physician , espeicially if Yaz is prescribed for you other than for birth control because of it potassium sparing action.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

Can you clarify "potassium sparing action?"  What does that mean?  Thanks.

    Re: Alli, Yaz and Penicillin...

    Hi Maria,

Potassium sparing action means that the potassium levels will not decrease or may rise when using this particular medication (spares the potassium from leaving the body).

    Hope this helps.
