    Re: Double the dose???

Why would you want to double dose? If you want to take 120 mg. get a prescription from your Dr. A Xenical prescription is expensive but if you double the dose of Alli it would be at least as expensive.

    Re: Double the dose???

     Critzyj...

I am seriously thinking of skipping the breakfast dose as I have almost no fat at breakfast....and then doubling the dose of my highest fat meal ...probably evening meal...only one at lunch as I eat very low fat most of the time.  In other words I will be using my breakfast pill at the evening meal where I might have more fat.  I still stay at about 12 gms with my biggest meals.

So....I would still be taking 3 pills a day.  I believe they said the 120mg pills (Xenical /Orlistat) should block 50% of the fat and Alli at 60 mg blocks 25%.

I think one thing some of us have to keep in mind is not to replace fat grams with sugars.  But if we keep our calorie count where it should be we should be okay.

That might work (double up on higher fat meals and single pill only on lower fat ones).  Let us know how that works for ya!

    Re: Double the dose???

Well said Heay Duty.  In the first place, if one were to contemplate doing this, knowing that the FDA is monitoring the posts, or at least that is the reason they state certain things cannot be posted on the board, don't you think that GSK would monitor the posts of those that state they are going to be doubling up in the event of a problem in the future so they can point their finger and state, you didn't follow directions and that is our defense?  Just a thought

    Re: Double the dose???

John - I just felt really strongly that this post should be repeated so I am quoting it.

I want to lose weight as badly as the next person - and I'm bustin' my butt to do it and I stillI can't understand WHY anyone would risk more treatment effects in order to have only a slightly more powerful fat absorption.

I think that there is a slight confusion as to the purpose of treatment effects.  You are not trying to "poop" your way to thin here - so having more severe treatment effects does not mean you are going to lose faster, and it's certainly not a healthier way to lose.

    Re: Double the dose???

Losing weight fast is awesome.  If losing weight fast was so unhealthy than weight loss surgery would not exist.  If treatment effects are none existance than go for it.  I haven't had any.  16lbs loss in 3 weeks.  I am 5foot 6 and 163lbs.  I have 40 lbs left to go.  I would rather spend the extra money than spend an hour walking.

    Re: Double the dose???

    Hi Everyone,

I am trying to think of a way to explain why it is that we can't decide how much we want to take when it comes to medications. The guidelines for taking an FDA approved medication are set based on the effectiveness of the product and for your health and safety. Everything on this board, in your plan and in your books has been developed for 3 pills per day, that is it. Instead of making a medical decision, turn your focus on your diet and activity and stick with the guidelines for using alli. It's wonderful that everyone is able to purchase it and has access to all of this information and it would be shame to ruin things by making decisions that go against what the FDA has approved.

Please reconsider what you are doing and let's work together on your diet and exercise. There are boards with exercise physiologists and registered dietitians to help you reach your goals. Wouldn't it be nice if this were the last time you had to go "on" a diet?

    Re: Double the dose???

This cracks me up. Its just like our pill popping society to consider doubling up to lose twice as fast. When are people going to learn that some things just don't happen quickly. Instant gratification is what everyone seems to be looking for. I don't hear anyone considering doubling up on the exercise. That would probably get you there quicker than taking more pills. Thats what I'm going to do. I'm going to double up on my exercise and see what happens. I have not had any treatment effects other than maybe I am a little more gassy. This may be due to eating more fiber than I was eating before. Maybe the scientist that did all the research on this drug decieded that you get the most effect at the least discomfort at 3 pills a day. Why not just try following the plan as it is laid out for you? Forget losing weight overnight, because it just won't happen no matter how many pills you take.

    Re: Double the dose???

    Huh?

Then you better prepare yourself for spending LOTS of money fighting heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and the like from inactivity.

What about when you stop taking Alli? You know you can't take it forever, right? What then?

Incorporating healthy eating habits along with EXERCISE into your daily life is the only way to sustain weight loss and stave off many diseases and conditions brought on by high fat, high calorie diets and little exercise.

Alli is only to be used in conjunction with diet and lifestyle changes. It doesn't take the place of them.

    Re: Double the dose???

Ack!  Don't do it.  As many people have mentioned here, the side effects are awful.  There's a reason that the dose is what it is, it gives the maximum benefit with the fewest side effects.  I too have been obese and was on the prescription dose for some time, but even as desparate as I was to loose weight the side effects were not worth it.

Even knowing this, if anyone does decide to double it PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, be under the close scrutiny of your doctor and stay home, it's no fun at all having that oil escape your body in public.  You may feel just like you've let loose a puff of gas until you check your panties and they are not ruined (along with your jeans and any thing you've sat on).  Panty liner?  Sheesh, try a Depends instead.

My two cents, take it or leave it :-)

    Re: Double the dose???

This is just a quicker way for the FDA to pull the pill off the market -- too many people abusing the drug.   There is a reason why the 120mg strength is called a prescription because it's meant to be taken under the supervision of a doctor.  Please don't ruin it for the rest of us.
