    Re: AAA's

    It's the 'Birthday Girl!!'

I am having a GREAT day so far!! It is sunny and 85 here...and no humidity, for Michigan atleast.

Jon took the day off and has catered to my every demand thus far. We had breakfast at my favorite place (I had roasted vegie quiche- VERY small piece and I don't eat the crust. Also fresh fruit and a plain non-fat yogurt.)

Then went to see "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie, very entertaining although bloody...not in a bad way...all cool computer FX...then to Satrbucks' then to tan (me) and now getting ready for dinner out at 7pm. I am not taking Alli today, nor exercizing...and I have NO guilt about it at all!!

I need to ski-daddle, but just wanted to say 'hi!'

    Love ya both,
    Carol Joy

    Re: AAA's

I'm so glad you enjoyed your birthday, Carol Joy!  That's how birthdays should be celebrated!  Good for you!

I am a bundle of anxiety.  It turns out they did find some lymphosites in the gall bladder and John is at the lab right now getting more blood tests.  He will have a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow morning and talk to the oncologist and at that point we will know more about what is going on and whether we should start to panic.  This is not good, though the oncologist seemed calm and reassuring on the phone.  Not like last time when they said go check yourself in to the hospital and the next day we were on our way to Stanford.  This gives me some reassurance.  Anyway, I will try to let you know what's going on but if things go badly, I may be gone a few days.  Keep a good thought!

    D.

    Re: AAA's

    Sunday 1:00pm July 12th

Oh my gosh...I guess we all disappeared this week! Last post from Carol on 7/8 and from me and Dana on 7/9!!

Dana....I am SO sorry to hear the troubling news of Johns' health! My dear, my thoughts and prayers will be with you. I will dedicate my day today (while doing the various chores I need to do) thinking only of you and John and wishing healing energy your way. I certainly understand if you only post bits and pieces until you can rest-assured that John is alright. Take care of yourself and KNOW I am here for you!

Carol...where are you my friend?? Havn't seen any posts from you since last Wed. on the challenge thread! I know you didn't go overboard on the sailboat! Please post when you can.

I missed you both this week but NEEDED to decompress from the 8-day houseguest and all the birthday festivities. I kinda just checked-out of the alli site until today. I feel like I've caught my breath now and my mood has picked up. I knew I would "crash" a little since I was mildly manic for almost 2 weeks. I am okay now.

I do hope to hear from you both by tomorrow. I am wishing you each love and peace...don't disappear forever; we need to stay strong together! Remember AAA????

    Love ya,
    Carol Joy

    Re: AAA's

     Dear Triple A friends,

Well, our worst fears have realized.  John and I are headed up to Stanford Hospital tomorrow for two to four weeks of intense chemo and radiation and then a yet to be determined amount of time for a bone marrow transplant down the line.  They found lymphoma cells both in the gall bladder and in his liver.  Needless to say we are feeling very anxious and blue about this but have been half expecting it and feel relatively prepared for it.  In some ways it is easier this time around, knowing what to expect, somewhat, and because our boys are older and fairly self sufficient and I'm not working right now.

We are blessed with plenty of love and support from family and friends. I will have computer access up there and plan to keep in touch, though possibly not daily.  You can also check John's blog for updates.  Thank you both for your good thoughts and wishes.

    Hugs,

    Dana

    Re: AAA's

     Sunday, 5:00 pm

Hi AAA's.  Dana, I am so sorry to hear about John.  We will definately pray for you him and your family.  We understand that you will be away, but please check in occasionally to keep us posted.  Will you be staying near him in a hotel or does the hospital have a faciltiy for families?  I know you will have a lot on your mind, but will you still be training for the triathilon?   I will definately check on John's blog for updates.  Please take care of yourself, too!!

Carol Joy, I'm glad to see that you have recovered from your houseguest.  I've never had one for that long, but know company can always be trying, but fun, too!!

Yesterday, we had 8 people over for a mid lunch/dinner.  My niece and her husband were in town from Virginia with their son (my Great-Nephew).  His first birthday is coming up on August 1st, so we had an early birthday celebration.  It was the first time I've seen him, and was he a pistol!!  I also haven't seen my neice in about 10 years.  She was in the Mariott Hotel next to the World Trade Center on 9/11.  She works for Mariott and lived in a residence there.  Needless to say, she lost everything she owned on that day, but she is doing well now, married for a couple of years with a wonderful little boy.   My brother (her dad), and her brother (my nephew), and her grandmother along with my Dad and Virginia were are at the house.  I have to admit I didn't follow any plan yesterday, I was just too excited to see everyone and ate lots of bad things.  But my Great-Nephew only has a first birthday once in his life.  Not that I'm bragging or anything, but he is already walking, not well, but is up and about.  I'm hoping it won't be that much time between visits again, so we'll have to work on that.  Oh yeah, my brother is the strange one I've mentioned before.  LOL  He was pretty good yesterday, spent most of his time with Jon talking about music and stuff.

Today, it rained most of the morning, and I was kind of glad, we spent the day doing a lot of nothing.  Again, not good for the diet, but tomorrow is another day!!!

I'm sorry I've been away for a few days, I spent Thursday cleaning and cleaning and sort of baby-proofing some things.  I also, get this, painted the living room ceiling, pressure washed the front entrance to the house, washed floors, vaccumed, dusted, rearranged furniture and even got in a short walk.  Friday, I ran errands for almost 4 hours, shopping for the party, and neat stuff for the baby.  Jon was off and was putting orange peel (the bumpy stuff on the ceiling) in places where we patched from the leaks.  I came home during my errands to put stuff in the fridge and he was so proud of his work, until I mentioned the sheet he used to cover everything was big enough and there was orange peel spray everywhere!!  So he spent the next hour cleaning up his over-spray, not a happy camper.  LOL  All-in-all the job looked great!!  And he later admired his work.

Well, I promise I won't be a stranger as much this next week.  Dana, you take care of yourself and we'll look forward to anytime you can stop by and chat.  Carol Joy, I need to update my challenge pages, sorry!!!

    Take care,

    Love ya girls,

    Carol

    Re: AAA's

    Monday morning, almost 9am

I am getting ready to go to the DMV to buy a opy of my driving record for the past 10yrs. I have my court magistrate hearing today to fight my ticket I got in May. I have a feeling I'll lose, but atleast I get to mess-up the cops' day making him waste it in court! Apparently, the 2points on the record will NOT be dismissed even if I am found 'not guilty'! Amazing! My only hope is he doesn't appear in court and I will have my case dismissed. Fat chance.

Dearest Dana...I am so saddened to learn John has another battle ahead of him. I can only imagine how you must feel; I tried to put myself there by 'feeling' how i would feel imagining my Jon going through this. You have my heart and prayers with you both. As Carol posted, please check-in when you can; we are here for you. Call me at any time as well if you just need a freiendly voice or an ear to hear you.

My Jon also had some potentially scarry news from his doc. He has shown a bad report for the possibility of colon cancer! The doc called to have him go for a colonoscopy a.s.a.p. I am trying to just keep it out-of-mind as there is no more news than a possible risk of a problem. I find it ironice that a man such as my husband (you know that term "a*&^ retentive?'...should be having issues in that part of his body. It is said that illness manifests in the part of the body that is associated with a emotional/life imbalance. If you ever read The Secret, it also states that we bring all energy- good and bad - to us. It is called "life" to me....the good and the bad, they come hand in hand.

Carol....so good to hear from you finally! I am now finally catching up to you in age!! That is, atleast until your b-day in September! We are both 51 now right? Gosh, I feel stronger and healthier NOW than I did at 21! Your party with family sounds like a big success! Glad your brother kept himself 'in-line!' Time for you to get your food choices back on track girl! I lost no weight last week, but my waist is down by 1/2" over these past 2 weeks! I am eating less starchy white foods (ALOT less LC's as most have meat) and am eating 1-2C berries daily as well as 1C plain lowfat yogurt 1-2 times a day. I also cut back on my daily Starbucks soy latte as the 4gm fiber per serving tended to really bloat my tummy! Soy products can have alot of bloating efeects due to the high plant-based fiber.

Well I must get on the road now. I need to get home and get myself all professional to appear in court at 2:30 this afternoon. I am going to do alot of positive visualization of myself winning and just put the rest in the hands of fate. keep your fingers, toes, and eyes crossed for me! lol

    Til tomorrow,

    Tuesday, 9:30am

Hi girls...Just copied yesterdays' post so you wouldn't miss it! I have a quick one today as I am packed full of things to do before I leave town for the night!

I am going overnight to Ann Arbor for the 4 day Art Fairs (The 2nd largest Art Fairs in the USA!) It draws over 250,000 people a day!! It is an exciting event as the entire downtown AND central U 0f M campus are closed to hundreds of art vendors!

I will be there just Wednesday (opening day) and as usual temps are expected to reach 90! I am going with an old dear friend I use to work with. Back in the day, we worked downtown at am elegant department store (we were both managers; she of dresses and I was of the Designer Dress Salon - of course!) and we use to walk the fairs daily on our lunch hours! I will stay overnight with her so we can get an early jump tomorrow!

Good news!! I won my case against the cop in the civil traffic violation given to me!! I went in prepared with charts, my driving record and a speech!! The violation was reduced from a civil traffic violation (2 points!) to a citation (0 points and no record!)...I had to still pay the $100 fine...but who cares...that is nothing...it was the points that would of affected my insurance and I already pay $1500 a year!! I am SO happy!! I even shook the cops' hand afterwards!! LA Law...here I come!!

Gotta get to yoga which starts in 30min! Hoping you are both doing okay...looking forward to hearing from you.

    Love ya,
    Carol Joy

p.s. I won't be posting again until Wed night or Thurs noon.

    Re: AAA's

    Tuesday, 5:00 pm

Hi girls!  Finally getting over the weekend.  Carol Joy, you are absolutely right!!  I need to get back into the right habits again.  So today, I had Egg beaters for breakfast, chef salad for lunch, and we are planning on grilling a chicken for dinner with whole grain rice and green beans.  I went to Curves today and signed up for their new CurvesSmart program.  It sounds like something to get me back into a regular program and make me really work out on the machines.  Since I've been walking, I haven't done much strength or anything else and when I did go to Curves, I was getting kind of lazy.   I start the new program on Monday and will be able to describe it a little better, but I tried some today.  Each machine has a computer now, I will have an ID card, slid it in the computer and then the machine will be programed for my personal workout.  At least it will tell me (by flashing lights) if I'm working at my potential or not.  I did speak to a gal this morning (didn't know her so I got an unbiased opinion), and she said the program has been great for her.  It really makes her work the machines instead of having a social gathering (which I've been know to have).   Some of the machines have a heart monitoring system, so you can see how you are doing cardio-wise during the workout.  Well, anyway, I think it will be a good thing.

Today, I was flipping through channels today and came across an "On Demand" part of our cable.  I found a beginners yoga class and spent 20 minutes doing my first yoga.  I liked it, but with my wrist, I'll have to be careful with some of the stretchs until I get used to them.  Is this something I can add everyday, well at least 5 times a week?  Carol Joy, what do you think?  There were about 12 different classes for the yoga, so after I'm comfortable with the beginners, I'll move up a step.

Dana, I guess you and John are up in Stanford.  Hope everything is going well.  We will be thinking about you.

Well, I gotta be off, I have a meeting tonight at the club and Jon will be home soon, so he can take me over.  Actually, he is going so he can have a drink with some friends while I'm in the meeting.

    Take care,

    Carol

    Re: AAA's

Hello, dear friends.  Well, I'm afraid I don't have any good news to report.  We are up here at Stanford Med Center and they now have the bone marrow biopsy and sure enough, John's leukemia is back.  They will start a three - four week chemo regime tomorrow but say he will need a bone marrow transplant this time around.  The search is on for a donor, his siblings will be tested first (he has four) and if there is no match there they will broaden the search.  I am staying here in John's room for now.  They have arranged a temporary gym membership here on campus so that I can shower.  They said I am welcome to use the gym facilities too, which will be a great way to relieve some stress and stay strong.  There is a lot of stress right now but we are just taking things one step at a time, just like before.  John has an amazing attitude and he will beat this again, I am sure.

Thank you both for all the good thoughts.

    Big hugs,

    Dana

    Re: AAA's

    Thursday, 4:45 pm

Hi girls!  Dana, so sorry to here about John's diagnosis!!  Jon & I will pray for a suitable donor for the match.  Have any of the family been tested before for matches?  What about your boys, are they canidates for a match?   I know you will beat this thing again, John is a strong individual.

Glad to hear about the gym facilites, you really need to have someplace to go and relieve some of your stress.  You definately don't want to get sick, yourself.  How are your boys doing?  Are both home now?  Do they get a chance to come visit while you are at the Medical Center?  Is it far from home?  Sorry for so many questions, my mind is going crazy thinking about your situation.

Yesterday, I had a bout with some food poisoning.  Not sure exactly where I picked it up, but I'm thinking it was from some bag lettuce I bought at the store.  Tuesday, Jon & I basically had the same things all day.  I made omlettes for breakfast (sent his with him to work), packed him a ham & turkey sandwich, and I had a chef salad (with the lettuce).  Dinner was pasta and some bread.  But by midnight, I had a horrendous headache and then shortly thereafter, spent the next 5 hours in the bathroom.  Needless to say, I didn't go sailing yesterday morning.  I still felt horrible well into the day yesterday, only eating some saltine crackers (whole grain LOL) and lo-fat cheese spread, chicken soup and a banana.  I have been buying the bag lettuce for a while, for the variety, but I think I'm going back to regular heads of lettuce and stuff.

Today, I did get to go for a walk (after it stopped raining).  We have had a lot of rain the last 5-7 days!!!   All this rain has messed up my exercise schedule I planned.

Carol Joy, what have you been up to?  We haven't heard from you in a couple of days.  Hope all is well.

Tonight, Jon & I are going to cook a chicken on the grill, with sauteed carrots and zuccini, and wild rice.  We have to load the van tonight with the band stuff.  I don't think I mentioned, we are playing at a private party at the Y.C. tomorrow night.  Also, we are playing the Y.C. Tiki Bar next Saturday, weather permitting.  Should be nice and HOT!!!!  Since there is a pool by the bar, I'll probably take a dip between sets to stay cool!!

You girls take care and I'll check back real soon.

    Love ya,

    Carol

    Re: AAA's

     Hi girls,

I am back home for a few days, checking up on the boys.  They are doing fairly well for the most part.  My potted plants suffered.and our mailbox was filled to capacity, but overall, the house looked pretty good.  I was in a foul mood having cried most of the way home and got on their case as soon as I walked in the door, which I now regret and will have to make it up to them.  I get the feeling they don't really have an idea of the level of seriousness of John's illness this time, having lived with him being sick for the last several years.  I had a very similar experience with my mom's illness at about their age so I understand.

I will be taking care of some things over the next few days.  I will need to take a leave from school as the transplant process will take several months at best.  We will need to get an apartment in Palo Alto as soon as we get the go ahead.  If there is a match, this will happen sometime around September.  The first five to six weeks of the process will be inpatient care at Stanford, then, if all goes well, he will have six to ten weeks of daily outpatient visits to the hospital and need care 24/7 from a caregiver (me) nearby.  After that we can move back home and he will have weekly visits to the hospital for six to ten weeks.  He should be good as new in six months or so.  All this, of course, assuming there is a match.  His sibs have been sent the kits.  They are our best hope.  The boys and I will be tested too if there is no match among sibs, but odds are slim for us, as they are for any member of the general public.

I was able to get some exercise while up there, mostly walking.  Meals were mostly from the hospital cafeteria.  They list all the nutritional info on cards next to the food so it was easy to make good choices.  (Passed up the chicken and grilled veggie quesadilla at 54 fat grams!)  I mostly went for soups, salads, and sandwiches.

Carol Joy, congrats on beating your ticket.  That's amazing and I know it almost never happens!  Good for you!  Any more news on your Jon?  It is always so scary to get that first lab report that needs clarification because your mind runs to the worst case scenario.  We are fighting this daily too.  I hope they can put your minds at ease very soon with further tests.  This is one coincidence we don't need, girlfriend.  I'm sending any extra positive energy your way and hoping you stop by with good news soon.  I always worry when you don't post for a few days.

Carol, yuck to the food poisoning.  That is such a miserable thing!  I have only had it once but it was memorable!  I'm glad you're feeling better and hope you got a nice swim in.  That sounded lovely.

Well, girls, I will stop by when I can.  It's good therapy to write some of this down.  Hope I'm not being too much of a downer.  I know that isn't the purpose of this board but I do feel like you both are allies I want at my back.  We are coming up on the one year anniversary of AAA soon.  Can you believe it?

    Big hugs,

    D.

    Re: AAA's

    Monday, 7/21 7:30am

Hey girls!! Only 9 more days until our 1 year thread anniversary!!! Thanks for pointing that out Dana!

Dana....I am truly sorry for all you and your family are facing in the near future; the struggle for John to regain his health, the disruption of your home-life, the change of schedule, the transplant....it is alot of stress and it is so important for you all to stay unified and communicate with each other. You will NEVER be a downer to us; ALWAYS post and vent and let us be your legs when you are too tired to stand. We love you and want the best for you and your family.

It is obvious that you and I will not meet in September; you have much more important things to tend to. The good news is there will always be planes to travel to and fro. Maybe this points to the possibility we are all only to meet once we celebrate meeting our goals? Do keep us posted whenever you can.

I am glad you have a place to work out as well as healthy food options. I know from the little time (in comparisson) that I spent with my MIL in the hospital and the psyche ward, it is easy to not eat or choose unhealthy foods due to stress, time, availability. I know he is at a wonderful place and he will get the care he needs to recover fully.

Try to forgive yourself for blowing up at the boys. They'll get over it and frankly, is it too much to ask to get the mail every day? Boys just don't think about much but themselves at that age (I am told by my mom-friends with boys). You need to give them responsibilities to not only help YOU out but to give them a purpose and allow them to feel like they are contributing to the family.

Jon will get his colonoscopy the week he gets home from Scotland. He left Saturday afternoon and I must admit I was a mess. I had a strong reaction to his leaving- which has never happened to me before! He has been gone longer on business trips to Europe and I wasn't upset for him to leave! I had a strong sense of forboding and was sick to my stomach from nerves for a day.

I got a deep tissue massage for him the morning of his departure day. I had packed for him as well, then we just hung-out until he left for the airport at 1pm (his flight departed at 5:20pm). It takes longer to check golf bags and we had pouring rain that day which slows down the 90min trip alot. He called at 4:15 Sunday morning to say he arrived safely and had the best flight of his life! He had one of those first-class sleeper beds and said he tood an "A" and awoke refreshed and well-rested! Good for him! I was a mess all night..lol!

I have my next 12 days (now 10) booked with all sorts of things: work-outs, yoga classes, social dates, dinner out with friends, 2 overnights with a friend and another with my sis. I will need a vacation when HE gets home! The night he left, I rented 'The Darjeeling Express' and Thai food take-out! I enjoyed the movie and loved the food! maybe that is what kept me tossing all night long!

Carol...I knew soemthing was wrong when I saw you haven't posted all week on the challenge thread! Should I give you a goose egg or did you get some points some days? I will post the final group update on Tuesday morning. Maybe you'll get a chance to post there before then?

I do hope you are fully recovered from your food poisoning...I've had it atleast 4 times in my life...it ain't fun!Twice was from shrimp, the earliest was at age 11- it ruined my Christmas! the last time was from a restaurant- filet that was lousy, and you know me, I don't eat at cheap places. Time before that was from alfalfa sprouts.

I do believe you have to wash all greens before consuption. I get the Earthbound Farms Organic Greens in plastic boxes which state they are 'triple-washed'...I even use vegie spray wash on those! you can but that stuff at most grocers. I truly believ in it.

Glad you are getting more band gigs! It did seem like you played alot more last summer, or maybe you just posted more about it. Sorry you missed your sailing class; can you imagine being on choppy waters feeling like you were? No way!

How is the weight loss coming along? I have been the SAME since June 4th!! I seriously need to lower my cals I guess! I am tighter and as I mentioned my waist and belly continue to get smaller. Maybe it is some muscle mass as I am seeing much more definition. I am not unhappy about this plateau, after all, I have lost 21lbs since July 9th, 07...including my loss before joining Alli. I will still take Alli until I reach my final goal. I believe in the product 100%!!

I have 2 clients to train this morning (first one will be here in 10min) and then I have a noon appt. for Restalyn in my lips and maybe Botox....I'm not wrinkling too much there so she'll probably deny me it and I'll go back in 2 weeks. The longer you get it, the longer it lasts! the rest of the afternoon, I will sequester myself in the house as I will have 'trout pout' for 24hrs! During that time I'll organize my closet (a never-ending chore) and keep busy with doing linens laundry.

Tuesday I am also staying in hiding until a 6pm dinner with a friend. By then, I hope my 'trout-port' is more a bee-sting look. It never looks great until about 5 days after the fact. All those needle pokes and lip massage really swells it th tissue up. Soon however, I will have a luscious, kissable kisser!!

I miss our posting more often, but I hope we will NEVER NOT post!! BTW...I ended up staying in Ann Arbor for 2 nights, then played catch-up Friday and Sat. That is why i had not posted since Monday night!

Love to you both; I should be posting daily for the next 10 days!!!

    Re: AAA's

     Monday, 7:45 am

Hi girls, glad to hear from you, Dana.  I've been reading John's blogs and am amazed at his great ability to express his feelings in words.  Since I've never been through that, I don't understand some of the treatments he is describing, but sounds horrible!!  When my MIL was going through chemo, I took her but she never really shared any of the details with me, and this is horrible to say, but I never really asked.  She was not liked much in the family, and I ended up being her caregiver, because no one else would.  I know that is terrible, but if you had known her you would understand.

John has an interesting attitude about wanting to get unhealthy before getting healthy, but again, I don't know much about leukemia.  I'm praying that he will be lucky with one of his siblings for a match.

Carol Joy, what have you been doing?  I know I have been very lax about posting and can't even explain why.  I have been very bad lately about eating and am now going to get back on track AGAIN!!  I started to think about my overall goal (145 by November 10th) and realized, I need to get my you-know-what in gear!!!!!!!!!  November is our 25th anniversary and we are going on a 10-day cruise.  Jon even said he is ready to lose some weight (YEAH!!!).  I've been worried about him and of course, can't say anything, because he just gets crabby.  He is going to cut back on all the junk food, which will be great for me to get it out of the house.

Friday, we played at the YC for the "Pre-Shutdown" party and had a wonderful night.  There were about 140 people there and we kept them hopping.  Before we started playing, a bunch of us girls tried out the hula hoops (we had a hula hoop contest) and I realized that I have no talent for hula hooping, what-so-ever!!!   But what great exercise!!!  we also had a twist contest, I was one of the judges, so I did some twisting while judging.  During our breaks, there was Zydeco dance demonstration, so I attempted to learn how to do that, but failed miserably.  LOL  AND we did some Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide and some other dancing during breaks.  All-in-all, I was exhausted at the end of the night, especially, after we broke down all the equipment and loaded the van back up.  Jon & I stayed at the Hampton, as usual, so we were able to crash and burn close by.   This party was in the main ballroom at the club, so we stayed pretty comfortable in the A/C.  Next Saturday, we are playing outside at the Tiki Bar and will not have that luxury of the nice cool room.

Today, I have a long list of things to get done, so I think I'll go make some breakfast (back on the plan!!) and get working.  I've already done two loads of laundry and some misc things.

Talk to you girls later.  Looking forward to hearing from each of you when ever you get a chance to check in.

    Love ya,

    Carol
