    Have I hit a plateau?

I've been on Alli for 3 weeks and lost 12 pounds. I try to exercise every night; I get on the elliptical for an hour and burn 500 calories. However, I think I hit a plateau; the scale's not moving and I've been pretty strict with myself regarding this plan.  I am feeling discouraged because though I've done okay, I still have a way to go; 20 pounds. I'm feeling weak, like I want to give up and eat the chocolate I've been craving.  Are there ways to break through this plateau? PS, if I am too fatigued to exercise and go to bed early, I get on the scale the next day and find that the scale hasn't moved. However, when my energy is up and I have that workout, the next day on the scale it shows. I am feeling discouraged.

Have you been keeping track of anything else, like sizes lost, or inches?  Sometimes when your body is buring fat but building muscle you don't see results on the scale, but you will look and feel better!  I know that's always hard for me, but I try to go by how I look and feel in my clothes as well as the numbers on the scale.  Good luck, you can do it!

Re: Have I hit a plateau?

i don't think you have hit a plateau, the closer you get to your goal weight the harder it will be, sorry.

plus don't beat yourself up to bad, i feel the same way, i hate when my energy is down, it's horrible. i go through a lot of days like that, i am diabetic, so when my sugar is high i and down and out.

don't worry you will find it within yourself to do what you should do it. you have answered it yourself, it's your energy. remember it's okay to take a day off sometimes.

Re: Have I hit a plateau?

I'm sure I have after losing 11 pounds.  But I know this too will pass and I'll start losing again   I find that when I stall out it is time to shake things up.  Up the calories a few and change the exercise routine.  Our bodies adjust to set foods/exercise and we stop getting results.

I'm going to try a new class at the Y and do more bike riding at the campgrounds instead of walking.   Hope it works as it has in the past.   Good luck and keep going.

Re: Have I hit a plateau?

After losing 12lbs, I too hit a plateau towards the end of last week.  I didnt lose anything for about 5-6 days, then i lost another 3 lbs since then.  We should look at the long term benefits of this program.  They are nothing but positive.  I havent eaten anything fried in almost 4 weeks.  I have only eaten pork once and beef 2 or 3 times.  Chicken and Tuna is my meat of choice now.

    Don't give up!!!

I absolutely know how you feel. Infact, I haven't been on the scale in almost 2 weeks because it tends to dictate to me how I feel about myself. I know that I am losing because my clothes are getting loose and I am fitting into a smaller size!!! Yeah!! I can see the change in the mirror.

Try not to give up. You can still allow yourself some chocolate treats though. I also love chocolate so I usually have "double chocolate sugar free Jello pudding". It comes in individual sized cups and runs about 60 calories and 1 (or 1 1/2) grams of fat per cup.

I began this on July 5th with 20 lbs to lose. It gets much slower the closer you get to your goal. I try to zig-zag my calories and to change my exercise since my body adapts so quckly to what I'm doing.

Let us know how you are doing!
