Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

    50by40:

    Hi all!

I've tried disabling my email notification before, but it seems to eventually flick back on at some point every time - it drives me crazy!!!

Anyway......I'm all about the "trying" thing.  And what I'm "trying" to do right now is:

    1. get off of my pity-potty

    2. quit procrastinating...making excuses....blah, blah, blah....

    3. remember that this is not complicated - EAT LESS / BURN MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    4. focus on the positive - and I do have a few positives to feel good about!

So that's my story today.  And the positives I'm trying to embrace are that I have not continued to gain, as I had been doing for years before starting this last August.  I had been slowly but surely (and consistently!) climbing the scale.  But not this year - and even have stayed at 8-10lbs off.  Not anything to brag about - but better than years prior.  AND, I am still eating healthier than ever in my life....along w/ my husband!

I need to dig deep and make some results happen to get me revved-up.  I've taken a pill w/ lunch and dinner every day this week and will be doing so going forward.  I've tried the brkfst thing, but it seems to just make me start wanting to eat more earlier!  So I'm sticking to my old way of a small low cal/low fat bite in the morning and then an early lunch.   I have a 3 day wknd for the holiday and WILL be walking each day.............The journey goes on, and on, and on, and on...................  ; )

    All the best!!   Kathleen

    Kathleen,

Your post cracked me up - I had just noticed that my email notification was back on, and I was like "What the...?" Then I read your post. A little big brotherish? We can't disable if we're going to post? Wait - I'm hearing creepy music in the background!!!

Sorry y'all - I'm feeling a little silly. Not enough sleep will do that.

Kathleen - I'm totally feeling you about the positives. After a year and a half on Alli/Xenical - I have kept off over 20 lbs. Even though I'm upset at myself right now for not being still on the losing train, think about it - 20 lbs. For a year!!! And for you - 10 lbs!! Awesome!! You know - it took me twenty some odd years of constant gaining to put this weight on. If I lose 10 lbs a year for the next 4 years it will all be gone, so for now - my goal is minimal: keep going!! (Picture Dory from Finding Nemo - just keep going, going, going, just keep going, going, going.)

    OK - I'm definitely feeling silly. :)

I also like your statement about breakfast - I'm definitely struggling with breakfast. I'm going to have to rethink that.

What is everyone planning for the 4th? I know that this is usually a pretty big food day for us so I'm giving myself permission to celebrate - but still with some moderation. That's usually my problem - when I blow it on a food holiday, I blow it big. So - let's just go for moderation. We're meeting friends at a big fireworks display at a park nearby. I'm really looking forward to it.

Anyway - I'm rambling - I'm just really glad that we're all talking and posting again. Have a great 4th!!

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

HI Ladies, I'm posting before I head off to the gym (sooo hard to get up this morning; had to give myself a pep talk). I'm still feeling a little discouraged because I haven't really lost anything this week and my check-in is tomorrow! I've met all the diet requirements - I'm getting enough calories / fat / water etc. No TEs and STILL not going to the bathroom! I'm hoping that this will all reverse itself next week and I'll show a big loss. I'm also wondering if I should double the dosage or something (maybe take a laxative?). I agree about breakfast also - I get up at 5am to go to the gym 5x a week, and let me tell you, I do NOT want to eat that early in the morning! I usually manage to down a power bar before I go, then I eat Kashi or something when I get back. I've been taking the pill with the meal I eat after the gym, but I don't know if that's worth it, since my breakfasts are usually really low fat. Any suggestions on that? I've been good about taking the pill all week. I went out for lunch yesterday with coworkers and tried to take my pill without anyone seeing. I had my purse on my lap under the table and was trying to get the pill out of the case without being obvious. So of course I dropped it and it rolled across the floor!! I almost chased it, but no one else had noticed, and besides - who wants to swallow something that's rolled across a restaurant floor?! :-) I'm going to follow Sharona's example and try to eat in moderation on the 4th. We're BBQing with family; no fireworks this year (I'm in California, and the whole state is on fire - fireworks have pretty much been banned). Also going to try to skip the awesome Margaritas my brother-in-law usually makes. I don't want to drink my calories!! I hope everyone has a great holiday - thanks for welcoming me to your group! It's been nice knowing I can come check the thread and see your posts.

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

I'm going to get back to posting my stats......I'll "chat" later - but here are my #'s:

    8/07..........194.5

    7/04/08......187

    STG..........175

    LTG..........144

As always, I'm facing "social" challenges......Last week was a 10day vaca w/ eating out and fun food EVERY day.  Today it's BBQ'ing w/ neighbors - I agree whole heartedly w/ Sharona that we should give ourselves permission to nibble on foods that we might normally consider off-limits.  If I say NO to it all, I know I'll just binge....whereas if I go into w/ the mindset of moderation I won't end up "cheating" and then feeling guilty and then binging!  (Does that make sense to anyone?)  And now next weekend I'm going to a girls wknd (out of state) w/ about 10 girls from HS to have a group 40th b-day celebration.  It's going to be a blast, but I foresee many coctails and who knows about the eating!!

So, moderation and daily exercise is my goal......today and always!!  :)

Happy 4th and have a fun & healthy wknd everybody!!        Kathleen

I don't consider myself an expert on this, by any means....But here's my 2 cents!

I would not double the dose....I'm not sure about the laxative, as I've never taken one.   I remember initially the pills kind of messed me up too - almost the opposite of what I thought it would do!  But things did work themselve out.  :)  I've NEVER had a TE or anything even close.  And after being on this for a while (and not being so scared about it!) I even tested it a bit - still no TE.  I think some of us just have a stronger constitution, or something!!  :)

Keep working.........You will get results!!!  (and I give you credit for dragging yourself out of bed and to the gym this morning! )      Kathleen

I am a BIG fan of margaritas, but haven't had one in a year.  After reading how they have anywhere from around 500-800 cals, I was like - NO WAY!  I'm all for indulging now and then, but that is a bit excessive for a drink, imo.  My cocktail of choice now is vodka w/ diet tonic and lime.........a MUCH lower cal option.

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

Thanks for the feedback ladies! Luckily my brother-in-law won't be at the BBQ today, so I don't have to worry about those margaritas! I may try the vodka tonic some day, but I don't drink much, so I don't think I'll miss it. I'm more worried about the BBQ today. I tend to overindulge whenever I'm around my family, so it's going to be a struggle. I went to the gym again today as kind of a preemptive strike. Plus, I always feel better after I work out. I only lost a pound this week, but something is better than nothing. I'm going to take Kathleen's advice and not double the dosage. Maybe you're right and my system is till adjusting. I'm going to give it a little while to sort itself out. I don't feel bad or sick, so no harm. (By the way, I apologize for the long paragraphs; for some reason my posts don't include the paragraph breaks.) Hope everyone has a Happy, healthy 4th of July!! Chris

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

     Hello everyone.

Its always nice to read up on the posts. I just wish I would do this more often 'cause I do miss everyone one here. I've gained 10 pounds this past month. But I knew it was happening. I haven't been consistent with taking my Alli pill. Haven't really done much exercising either. My intentions are to get back on track but I haven't been as committed as I need to be. thats for sure.  I'll get there, I'm sure.

I haven't had the internet since I moved but I just got it hooked up so now I can check in here more often. Maybe that will be a key to help me get back in the swing of things. So many inspirational stories in here. You girls are great in here.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Take care,

    Darcy

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

    Good Morning Everyone!!

It's great to see everyone posting so much again!!  Today is the first day I've logged on since last Thursday (from work) and I couldn't believe all of the changes to the website.  I haven't had time to play around with it yet, but I'm really interested to see what we have now!

Now for my tale of woe - I didn't get on the message board all weekend because my internet connection at home is unavailable.  Earlier last week I was online checking my email and what have you and we had a lovely lightning strike.  My internet connection immediately went away, as did our cable television.  Come to find out that my wireless router was zapped (even though it was on a surge protector).  I spent a few hours on the phone with our cable company Friday night and we couldn't re-establish the connection through my desktop computer (they said I need to contact the manufacturer).  Anyways, I finally got a connection yesterday but it's through my laptop computer, directly to the connection and not to a router (which stinks).  So presently my laptop is acting like a desktop computer because I can't move it off the computer desk.  Hopefully I'll get this resolved soon, but I'll only be posting from work until then (bah)!  Besides my router being zapped we also discovered that our garage door opener got zapped, all the electrical on one wall of my kitchen and one wall of my living room!  Then, yes, there's more, water started pouring out of the bottom of my main bathroom toilet on Saturday.  I went into the bathroom and saw that the tub was also filled with gunky stuff.  Checked the master bedroom bath, and same situation.  Called for emergency plumbing services and I guess I was lucky enough to get an appointment for them to come fix it today (some emergency services).  I think I need a vacation (oh, I guess I just got back from one :-)

Enough of that!! I hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend.  It was nice to have the 3 days off of work, however, this week will seem long since I actually have to work 5 days!!

Well, I just wanted to check in real quick and see how everyone is doing.  When I have more time, I'll go back and read all of the new posts.  Since I'm at work right now, I probably should get some work done!! :-)

    Have a GREAT Monday everyone!!

    Hi Kathleen -

I am so jealous - your girls weekend coming up sounds awesome!  Are you going to Illinois by any chance?

I'm the same way as you mentioned, if I don't allow myself something I'd like to have, I do go into full blown binge mode where I'll eat everything that isn't tied down - which is pretty much everything.  And the sad thing is, I'll eat stuff that I wasn't craving, but it doesn't register because I'm too busy shoveling stuff into my mouth.  I haven't had one of those attacks in awhile, I think because I do allow myself even just a taste of something that I want.  Surprisingly, even just a bite or two can sometimes be enough to satisfy the beast within.  :-)  When I was on my vacation and was snacking, even though I gained a pound, I think my snacking wasn't actually too bad.  Yes, I had chips (regular, not baked), and chocolate and cookies, etc. while I was reading, but I think the difference this time is that I allowed myself these treats, but I didn't go overboard (and didn't completely fall back into old habits).  I didn't finish a whole bag of chips in the blink of an eye, didn't eat the whole box of cookes, etc.  I just did a little munching while I was reading, but didn't make myself sick.  It has taken a long time to get to this point, and I don't think I'll ever be able to just eat without thinking about what I'm doing, and I'll probably experience a binge in the future, but at least I have a little more control over this now than in the past.  Okay, time for me to quit rambling!!

Anyways, if I don't talk to you before you go away for your fabulous weekend, have a great time, as I know you will!  Be good to yourself and just have FUN!!

    Take Care!!

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

    Hi Kelly -

How nice to hear from you!  I was really feeling lonely there for awhile :-)  All of Team 40ish must be on vacation or something!

Are you new to the plan or have you been following it for awhile?  Let us know how it's been going for you.  It'll be a year for me next month - sure can't believe how quickly a year can go by.  Kathleen and Gail have been around for about the same amount of time - Kathleen and I started in early August and I think Gail started in September.  The rest of the team has been around since last year as well, but I think they are just hiding right now! LOL

Thank you again for posting - I really look forward to hearing from you again soon!

    Take Care!

    Bobbi
