Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

     Welcome, kadamay!

Okay - so I've been AWOL for a week or so.  We're changing around a lot at the house - my home has a MIL apt upstairs, and we have used it as a computer room/ catchall until now.  It's about twice as big as my MBR, so we switched so that I can have a haven away from the "office", since I use a laptop in the daycare, and not much in the computer room.

Anyway - up 1 last week and down 2 this one, so total of 36.  Saw the Dr. yesterday and she is thrilled with my progress.  Me too - only 58 lbs until I'm in acceptable BMI range - that's a lot less daunting than the 94 I started out with.

Take care, all!  We had  HUGE snowstorm last night, but it was only 1/3 as big as they predicted.  I hate the emergency weather radio - it gve us notice at 5 am yesterday that it was going to come after 6 pm.  I finally had a morning I could sleep in, and I didn't get to!

I started the program in August of this year and turn 40 in August of next year.  So far I have lost 48lbs and would like to loose 90 more.  Wish me luck!

I live in my own little world.

But that's ok... They know me here!

     Hi,

My name is Sherry, snd I thought I was the only one that was trying to look good by the big 40. I keep stumbling, but hopefully you can be my partner. The only thing is that you kind of have a head start with your weight. I weigh 261. My birthday is in October of next year. I also want to weigh 130.

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

Before I tried Alli I had tried just about everything short of surgery and I had started considering that.  Alli was a last ditch effort before doing something drastic... and you know what it is WORKING.  For the first time since I put on all this weight I feel like there is hope and hopefully my 40th birthday present to myself will be clothes that don't have to come from Lane Bryant.

It is also nice to see someone else that is starting at the same place I am and wanting to reach the same goal.... I wasn't sure if there was anyone else quite like me out here.  So this is cool.  Let me know if you need any encouragement.

I live in my own little world.

But that's ok... They know me here!

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

     Hi -

My name is Michelle.  I hope I'm not too late to join your forum.  I didn't start having a problem with my weight until my junior year of college.  At the time, I was a size 3 and was toned and fit, and only weighed 120 lbs.  That was almost 17 years ago.  Since then, the stress of life has taken its toll.  I can't even admit my weight to my husband, but I got on the scales yesterday, and I am now 209 lbs.  My goal is to get down between 130 to 140 lbs., and I'd like to do it by next winter.  I'm giving myself an entire year.  I'll be 40 the August after that.  I'm even too embarrassed to attend my 20 Year High School Reunion next June unless I can get myself down to at least 165 lbs.  I tool my first pills today, and really focused on making the right choices of what to eat.  Any support would be greatly appreciated since I can't even admit it to my best friend how debilitated I feel with this weight.  He still loves me, as much as he did 17 years ago, but I need to get healthy for me and my boys so that I don't start having health problems and not see them grow up to be the men I hope they will become.

     Hey,

    Ms_Serine:
Before I tried Alli I had tried just about everything short of surgery and I had started considering that.

Just thought i let you know that I am in the same boat...I have tried alli since 2007 on and off.  And I have tried every other diet and doesnt work mostly because I give up.... I haven't taken ALLI faithfully either, but there has been a lot of success on this site on this post.  It is especially nice to have the support that all these girls give each other. THE FAB 5 on here are AWESOME  even if we don't connect as often.... We all have the same problems as you.   I hate buying clothes anymore... although I had to break down and buy something cause I didn't wat to go naked and here in PA it has gotten a little cold... I keep throwing things out cause I have had them for so long I couldn't stand it anymore.

i'm sure you will have success ! I will be anxious to get to know all of our newbies!!!  Take care...

    Gail

    Hi Michelle,

I am new to this forum also and I can definately relate to your story.  Before I had my boys I was 120lbs and a size 4 and got up to 269lbs and a size 26, but I have had a lot of luck with Alli and now I am 218 and a size 18.  Best of all I am feeling good and some of the health problems I was having have disappeared.

Let me know if you ever need a encouraging word!

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

Hello - 1st time post. Today is my big 39 birthday --- I have one year to loose 24 lbs until by 40th bday. From what I have read, my goal lose is doable b/c 15%. It is not easy for me to lose weight - because I have no will power!   This week, I have put myself on the Alli diet without the pills. I am going to start taking the pills next week once I get my diet in order. I have been STARVING all week. Reading the posts have helped because I think I discovered today my protein intake is too low.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Re: Trying to get fit by 40-anybody else out there??

     Happy Birthday Holly and welcome!

This thread is wonderful and the people here are full of information, support, and encouragement!

Protein is very important to being comfortable with the new lifestyle you are developing.  I find that eating protein first thing (not til after my coffee of course) keeps me feeling full and stops the cravings I used to have eating the old way.

Hello to all the newbies that I haven't had a chance to address...everyone should be congratulated for making the decision to change your lives!  It is not easy, but it does get better as you learn what your body needs versus what you think it wants.

Our bodies are incredible systems.  Sometimes I think my body has a mind of its own because it seems that it fights me to hang onto the fat.  My theory is that we are the way we are due to Darwinian development of the survivial of the species.  Bodies that store fat easiest are actually superior to the survival of the human race....so we are the Best of the Best LOL!  By the way, I'm also a legend in my own mind (and I have a very twisted sense of humor ;-)!)

Anyway I want to offer this bit of encouragement based on my experience with alli over the past year.  This is the only plan I have ever tried that has not resulted in yo-yo dieting.  I have taken and kept off 25 pounds and over 20".  My doctor is amazed at how well alli has worked for me.  I have even been able to completely quit taking several medications that I had been on for a number of years.  I have more energy, I feel better, I have learned portion control, and I do not crave certain foods.  I've even found appropriate substitutions for the "comfort foods" I used to eat during that time of the month.  My weight loss is slow but steady and it is staying off!

So come back to the threads often to see what ideas you might try and to ask anyone for advice.  We are all here for one another and we welcome you to our new world!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.  I don't have computer access on the weekend.

And yes I was reponding to your post in my post.... I have noticed that sometimes you just need to have a cheerleader, especially if that person has a lot in common with you.

    Hope things are going well,
