Betty,
I am new to the Alli program. Actually I began losing weight about 3 months ago. I had two doctors stress to me how important is was to 1. not eat sugar to prevent diabetes, and 2. the need to reduce my weight for b/p reasons and heart reasons. I had gastric banding done in 1994, weighed 312 at weigh in and lost 60 pounds, what the doctor predicted. I gained back to around 270 and have stayed there. I have always felt the surgery was a success because I was gaining 40 pounds a year and I stopped that freight train.
I had lost about 40 pounds since March 09, just by stopping my ice cream and refined sugar intake. This has been a really drastic weight loss for me. I knew I would substitute meals for sweets and/or ice cream and/or regular sodas, but did not realize how bad the problem had been. I have eaten this bad stuff for so long that I have to make myself eat vegees and fruit now. I am not a beef eater, it causes problem with my stomache pouch and being 50 doesn't help with metabolism of beef. I love fish and chicken.
I started the Alli for two reasons. I figure that I need to change my whole eating patterns and I really really like this program, all components. I do not plan to take 3 pills a day simply because I don't eat large meals that often.
My concern, though is not getting enough calories. I am losing weight so fast by just stopping the sugars and sweets, it scares me a bit. I have much more energy and feel really good, but can't make myself eat the calories needed to keep the weight loss slow. Blood sugar is great and otherwise I am very healthy. I don't want to lose muscle mass. I am a moderate exerciser and some days work very hard in the yard, building sheds or in the garden for anywhere from 6-8 hours/day. 2 days every week I walk probably for a total of 45 minutes in airports.
I am not complaining, and I never in a million years thought I would have a problem like this. I have to be careful to keep my protein levels up, and have done so for many years, as my hair will start to dwindle. But I haven't had any problems with that lately either. I would like to eat something like peanut butter, but don't want to cause any intestinal problems. Any suggestions.
