    Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

Does anyone out there have neck pain? It's sort of in the lower back of the skull area. I tried stopping the Alli for a week - -and the neck pain went away. I started taking it again yesterday and the neck pain is back. Could this be a coincidnce? I'd love to know if anyone else is experiencing this?

     Best, UV

UV - yes, I do. How long are you on the Alli pills? I noticed headache the first week on the pills and now I am winding down my 2nd week using Alli.  On Wednesday, the pain seemed to have gone away but I had it right away from the start. Since I am susceptible to migraines and headaches I didn't think much of this. I also thought I triggered a headache from suddenly stopping eating refined foods.

At least today, there is no pain.  How are you today?

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

    Hi UV,

I have not heard anything about this being a side effect from alli. I recommend that any questions about side effects be posted on the board for the pharmacists. They are the experts and can assist with medication related questions.

You may want to take a look at your diet to see if there is anything different that you eat or drink when you take alli vs when you didn't.

Let me know if you have any questions about your diet,

    Hi Roadmedic,

Having neck pain is different than having a pain in the neck :o) lol

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

Pain? when do I not have pain lol... but its not from the diet, if anything the diet has helped me soooooo much with the pain I have to deal with every day 24/7...

but I do know that when you change your eatting habbits up your body can change. meaning things you eat. There are tonssss of foods that people dont really know about that can cause head aces. so you might look into what you are eatting. also excerise that you are not use to might have caused this. I know that there has been things I cant do much of, cause my body is not use to it. I dont know this is ture or not, but made sense, one of my drs. on my Fibro, told me the other day that my lower back might be hurting instead of my tail bone, which alllllllways hurt, but have seen a change in it. He said that because I have lost so much weight in my hips, it took presure off of my tail bone, and I am sitting different now. So trying to sit a different way, to support my lower back. made sense to me. but yet, my pain is like no other, and have to do the most comon task different than anyone else.

Just a thought.. you might look at these things. But I do not belive its the pill.. but yet im not a dr.

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

Yes I do, UV.  Mine is more in the lower neck/shoulder area on the right side.  It has hurt (like a pinched nerve) for about the same time as I have been taking alli.  I doubt it's the pill, but when I go in for my annual physical on Nov. 2 I am going to ask for an xray because I'm worried that it might be osteoarthritis or something like that.  It may also be my treadmill.  It's a cheapy and my neck always hurts when I am on it.  I bought it four months ago as well.  It may also be my computer at work.  I'll let you know, but I suspect alli the least.

Thank you for your interest in the alli program and your involvement in the community message board. alli is different because it is the only FDA-approved OTC weight loss aid. It also works in the digestive tract, does not enter the bloodstream or interact with your heart or brain. You may be experiencing your noted effects as your body adjusts to a reduced-calorie diet or increased physical activity. Make sure to eat your recommended allowance of calories throughout the day, stay hydrated and increase your physically activity level gradually. If effects continue, please see your healthcare professional.

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

Judy, And anyone else that have neck problems Sense you wondering if its the Alli, again I doubt it. But I understand your concern.

Like I said I deal with alot of pain, all the time, but it has not been like this all of my life. It was a few years ago that I learned I had Fibromyalgia, It is extreme pain, just about anywhere in your body. Its from several things, strain, stress, injury you may had yearssss ago. or stresss or stressss.. there is not a real known cause of this. That is why it is called the invisible syndrome. And hate to say this but also there is not a cure for it, there are meds that help with it, and then pain meds. Which I dont take the pain meds, only veryyyyyyyy rare times do I do. Between now and your Dr appointment take note of things that hurt, and how often. Think back also if you have hurt it in the pass. And again, think of what is going on around you, if you under alot of stress, it can flare up. The most common places Fibro can hurt is neck, lower back, legs, hands. but like I said allllll of your body can hurt, I dont recall the last time my tail bone has not hurt. There is not very many Dr's that recognize or even say this is a true problem. They will say its all in your head. So keep trying to find someone that will understand it. A good Dr that might is one that deals with Rumortory arthist.

I am not saying your problem is this, just that I had neck pain wayyy before finding this out and I basically thought it was from either head aces or just being too fat and couldn't hold my neck up. lol so many places I have gone and spoke on this matter, I find more and more people that say that the pains was all ways there but they thought it was strain from their weight. Most people get it in their 20's but more and more they see that ones my age (45) is having it now coming to where they really know something is wrong. I think its  because people my age learned to just deal with things, and now we are older we think its our old age sitting in.. lol

I wish you luck, and keep up the plan..

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

actually i experienced this pain at the base of the neck/shoulders, etc...it's cervicalgia, and i took it as my cue to stop taking alli as well.  the pain went away not through heat or massage (the wrong way to treat it) but by cold ice packs and ibuprofen (to deal with the inflammation of the muscles that hold the head up).  you know you have this kind of problem when you turn your head away from its center position to the left or right and feel lots of discomfort.  this is actually one of the things they wrote in the pamphlet as a red flag to stop taking the pill as it might be signs of something more serious.  did you have nausea with this too?  i had these two things and when i stopped the alli, they went away in a reasonable time.  upon starting the alli again, they came back. that's correlation enough, i think...

let me know how your pain progresses--i wouldn't continue it if it went to the trapezius muscles (over your blades)...the pain can get really bad.

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

I have absolutely no side effects like this what-so-ever. To be honest i have no side effects at all.  I thought ALLI only works in the Digestive tract not your heart, muscles or brain ? Maybe an allergy or change in diet could be the blame. I was trying to find where it had this warning about inflammation of the muscles but found no warning of this nature. I would see a doctor it has to be something else not related to ALLI.

    Re: Neck Pain!!! anyone else??

I've always have had some neck pain, but when starting Alli I also experienced pain in my neck and shoulders.  I thought I must have pulled something excersing.  I went to the chiropractor and mine went away temporarily.  It kind of come and goes.  Have you added different excersies.  Also, I had a lot of headaches prior to taking Alli.  When I started eating better these have really been reduced.  I have realized what you eat really affects how you feel.
