    Sticking with it

I've been on alli for about a week and I am having a hard time sticking with it. My problem is that I eat a heathly breakfast and lunch but once my husband comes home I screw up. Instead of being able to eat one slice of pizza in moderation I end up eating two and once I feel like I already "cheated" I'm doomed for the rest of the evening. I am very motivated to lose weight. I just need to lose 15-20 to get back to my old self again. I don't know what I can do to help keep myself on track. Please if you have any suggestions let me know.

    Re: Sticking with it

How about getting your husband to be your weight buddy?  Can you ask for his help?  Let him know that you'd really like to do the Alli Program and that, for some reason, your biggest difficulty is at night.  Perhaps he can remind you about the second slice of pizza etc.

By any chance does your husband need to lose some weight; could he join you on Alli and the two of you could be a great team?

I'm sure you'll have lots of thoughts from others -- these are a few to get you started.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: Sticking with it

Andrea,                                                                                                                          The way that I have solved this problem is to not serve Pizza. Pizza is not my downfall but give me Chicken Fried Steak with cream gravy, mashed potatoes with more gravy and I am a gonner, so I do not prepare it. I am the exclusive grocery shopper and cook in my house and so I can control things a bit.  Of course, my husband has certain things that he likes to have and I have worked hard to reinvent those receipts to be more ALLI frendly.                                  Hope this helps,                                                                                                           Linda

    Re: Sticking with it

I had a similar problem.  Since being married, one of my biggest problems was that I had begun to adjust my portions to match my husband's!  Especially with certain favorites--I cannot control myself when it comes to pizzeria pizza--no how, no way!! (We have some of the nation's best pizzerias around the corner!) So, it is banned from my sight until I reach my goal.   Hint: Try Kashi's frozen pizza--The Mediterranean one is delicious!  Not quite the same as pizzeria pizza, but you can control your portion and it's fairly low in fat!

About dealing with your husband, My advice? Take Control!! When I began the alli plan, I made sure I did all of the shopping and planned and made all of the meals that we eat together.  Try to take the time to have a recipe planned and ready to go so you aren't coming home from work not knowing what to make and are forced to eat fast food or Pizza.  If he wants pizza a particular night, tell him you have something else planned that will be healthier for both of you, and just as tasty (If he still insists, tell him to go and eat it at the restaurant!).  There are a number of recipes on the alli site (under recipe search as well as the meal plan) that I've made for both of us and my husband really enjoys.  He loves the "Easy Baked Fish" recipe--I have mine as the recipe states, and he makes his into a fish taco, with cheese, tomatoes, etc.

If he doesn't already understand, you owe it to him to educate him about the need for healthy eating, regardless of whether he's overweight or not.  My husband is not overweight and exercises, but he recently found out his cholesterol was sky-high (heredity).  He knows he has to be careful now and we certainly can't eat pizza every night--  Last check-up, his cholesterol was back to normal, and I'd like to think it had to do with our much-improved diet as much as the statin drugs he was prescribed.

    Good luck!
