kbaumler:I am trying to decide on a long term goal, at 6'5" losing 100 from my all time high of 321 would be great be it almost feels unrealistic (but that what the charts say I should do). I think I will keep setting goals of losing about 15 pounds at a time, and take things one day at a time.
Congrats to you kbaumler. The fact that you recognized that you needed to make a change and took positive steps is a success story in itself. Anything else is just gravy.
(homer imitation: mmmmm ... gravy .....)
When I started this, quite frankly my goal was to lose weight. At 232 I was not going to be too specific. (I am 7 inches shorter than you). As I started losing weight, I started setting "micro goals".
First was to get out of the Obese BMI classification. I made that in mid-August.
Second was to break the 200 lb. barrier. I made that in mid-September.
Now that I have been on the program 15 weeks, I have a better idea of how I am losing, and have started setting much more specific goals. I am losing about 1.2 lbs. per week, and .75 inches in my measurements. Based on that historical information I have set new goals that take that into consideration. Since my weight loss is so low, it didn't make sense to stay on the Alli medication, so I dropped that the first of September but am continuing with the exercise and diet program, with modifications.
During my 14th week (2 weeks ago), I had my body fat tested using one of the "dunk tank" tests. I came in at 29.2% body fat. My new long term goal is to get that into the "healthy" body fat range of 17% by mid-February.
My next micro-goal is my next dunk test in about 5 weeks, where I have a goal to get to 24% body fat.
In order to reach that goal, I have tweaked my diet a little, and have added strength training (I did no strength training for the first 13 weeks on the program). I have also increased my cardio workouts from 43 minutes to 1 hour each.
My next micro-goal is to get my waist down to 40 inches from a current 43.5 inches. (A 40 inch waist indicates an increased risk factor for men and heart disease). I am projecting hitting that goal by mid-December if things go well. When I started I was at 46 inches, so I think this is doable.
I am anticipating that by early December the weight loss is going to become much more difficult because I am going to be near the 180s, where my body tends to gravitate. At that point I may mix up the diet a bit more and change around the cardio and strength training program.
My long term goal (endpoint) is to get into the healthy BMI category, with a weight of 174 lbs. or less. I figure to be there around mid February.
As you get into this more you will get a better idea of how your body is losing weight and can set some specific goals for yourself.
Best of success to you on your weight loss journey.
