    Re: 1st Week

    Hi Marshall,

You are absolutely correct in that folks at the beach have seen it all, and you have nothing to be ashamed about. In fact, your hard work on alli should be a motivation and source of pride for you because you'll know that in the long-term, you will look the way you want.  I've found that just like in the gym, people on the beach are often too concerned with their own image to notice others, and we're often our own worst judges.

Walking on the beach is an excellent suggestion becuase the change in terrain (sand) provides resistance that instantly raises your HR and also helps to develop lean muscle mass while burning calories and fat.  You're working twice as hard on the sand, and have the ability to burn more calories.

    Keep up the great motivation.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

This is a great passage for me to concentrate on.  I started Alli last year and lost 10 lbs, but quit and gained the weight back.

I know that a steady course will bring long term effects.

Re: Check in for the Fellas ....

I started Alli Sept 2007 at 5'6" & 215 lbs. The first 4 months I lost 20 lbs and seemed to level off around 195. My target weight is 175, but probably won't see it. The lowest I have been in the last 20 years is about 185 after training for a Marathon when I was 50. I haven't changed my eating habits, but eat fairly well, no fried foods or fast foods. I also haven't done any activities. The one thing I should work on. But, that is not while I am posting today. I also have high colesteral, have all my life, so do my parents. It has been as high as 310, but generally in the 270-290 range. I have taken medications without a lot of improvement. When I started taking Alli, it was about 275. I give blood every 8 weeks, and they send me my colesteral level a few weeks later. I noticed about 6 months ago, it was around 240. Then last month it dropped to about 210. Still moderate, but a huge improvement for me. So even though my weight hasn't gone down recently, I am happy with this good Side affect or should I call it a "treatment affect" too :)

I have the same cholestrol range.  This sounds like good news.

I had borderline cholestrol through college, where I rowed.  After college, came 30lbs from a desk job, and eating pizza and drinking beer etc.  The choletrol level shot up to 280.  It is my understanding that cholestrol is part hereditary and part diet.  I just assumed that if I lost the weight, my cholestrol level would go down.  Does alli, the drug itself, have an effect on cholesterol???   Does anyone know of similar experiences out there?

Checking in for the first time....

My name is Bobby, and I'm 27 years old. I started taking Alli last Monday, June 22. I weigh at least every other day because it gives me motivation to keep going. This past Friday (only 5 days in), I weighed and had lost 8 pounds. This was great. I don't really follow the Alli diet plan. I drink a lot of coffee (at least a pot per day) and I skip breakfast and lunch, taking diet pills (Xantrex) instead. I drink a lot of water and green tea. Then I take an Alli capsule (sometimes 2) with dinner, and I usually only eat a little. I almost always have treatment effects because my mom always cooks with a lot of oil or butter, and almost anything that can be fried is. Some time on Friday I pulled an abdominal muscle while working in the garage. I didn't know it at the time, and I thought that it was stomach cramps. I was thinking that the Alli and Xantrex didn't agree with each other and this is why I was hurting so bad. I could barely walk. So on I stopped taking both. I ate very little because it hurt so bad. On Monday I was feeling better and started eating again, but didn't take the Alli and didn't watch what I was eating. I fell off, and never thought about it again until last night when I realized that I had eaten almost half of a package of cookies. I woke up this morning with a new resolve that I'm not going to let this weight and any kind of food control my life. I will contine to take the Xantrex along with Alli until I have lost 30 pounds.

Re: Checking in for the first time....

Ahhhh.... to be young.   At 27 my body would stand almost anything.  However, pull a muscle at 27 and you will feel it at 57, 67, and 77.  I lifted too much at age 16 and hurt my back.  Forty years (plus) later I still suffer from that one injury.

Good news is I just spent the last 11 hours working in my garage.  Taking everything out, cleaning and reorganizing.  Sad part is, I did not finish.  It appears the holiday will be a repeat for me.  However, I feel blessed that I still have the ability to go 11 without dropping.

Be cautious with the combining pills.  I am not a doctor, wait a minute, yes I am.  However my degree is in business, not the medical field.  Business advice:  Self control is much better than combining pills.

Hang in there Bobby.  You have the right attitude, get your weight down now, it is sooooo much harder to do later.

Re: Check in for the Fellas ....

     Hello to all!

I have been on the Alli for about 2 1/2 months now. I started out at 324lbs. That was a shocker to me as I didnt think I weighed that much as I am 6' and knew I was over-weight, but didnt think it was that much. Well, I walked away from the doctors office ( I went for just a regular check up) with a serious wake-up call. I am 44 and had to face alot of problems if I didnt lose my weight. I put myself on a more restrictive diet than what I am suppose to be doing. I dont measure everything but am aware of what I take in. I would guess I total about 1000-1500 calories a day and maybe 20-25 grams of fat. I have cut out all sugar, eat fish 2-3 times a week, everything is fat free as much as I can and I take my vitamin and eat healthy. I was figuring on having problems of feeling hungry by doing this, but by eating as healthy as I can and snacking on fruit, I have had no problems. In 2 1/2 months I have dropped just under 30lbs! I feel great and clothes are getting looser. I have started to exercise a bit more as I seemed to level out now. I am still losing weight, just not as great as before. My body has adjusted to my lower intake. My goal is to get back to my young and dumb days of when I was in the Marine Corps and was fit. Thats about 180-190. I have been a bit broad shouldered so thats why the high weight as like I said, I am also 6'. I have had no side effects mentioned, course, I work as a pilot for a company and the idea of "uncontrollable blowel urges" hitting me 20 minutes into a 3 hour flight scares the living hell out of me!! hahaha SO, that alone keeps me on my diet with noooooo problems. I am happy with my weight lose and the progress of it. I figure I will be where I want to be weight and size by Christmas of 2009. I didnt gain all this weight overnight, so as much as I would like to, I dont expect to lose it overnight. If I do, then great, if its just 2lbs a week, then its still losing it and hey, thats 104lbs in a year! Still not too bad I think. So, good luck to the rest of you guys and may you keep the drive for what-ever reason you have and stick with it.
