You can also try www.calorieking.com and www.calorie-count.com for calorie information + free recipe analysis.  You have to register but the sites are free.

The only way to know the info about your recipes is to calculate the information by hand or on a website such as above.  That means looking up the amounts of calories and fat in each ingredient, adding it up, and then dividing by the number of portions it yields (or that you eat).

I realize this is a little tedious...but the only other way to do it is to use recipes from magazines, cookbooks or the internet that already have the nutrition analysis.

    I hope this helps.

I also eat Indian food everyday. Wonder what are the best choices. The site has info on Italian, Chinese and Mexican only. Indians always get left out:(

I cook Indian food at home myself. You can log the ingredients divided by the number of servings. That is what I do. Also the best recipes are the tomato based ones for weight loss I imagine. I cut back on the coconut and that has helped.

    Re: Indian Cooking

    Hi,

I am an Indian too and am planning on starting taking Alli from Friday (feb 15) onwards.  I am anxiuos to know how alli works along with India diet.  I cook most of my meals at home and use no more than a teaspoon of oil in all my dals and veggies.  How are your bodies reacting to alli?  did u guys experience TE's?  I havent started yet so am a lil anxious.

    Re: Indian Cooking

HI I have been taking Alli for 5 months now. But for us Indians who are vegetarian it is of less benefit then people who have fat based diet. We make Roti, Rice Dal and veggies. I usually make Dahi with fat free milk. So there is hardly any fat in our diet. My friend who is a physicain in Bronx county NY hospital was with me for a week for some medical studies in Chicago and she studied it for me. She says that i do not have significant fat in our diet. I think my problem is carb and sugar. I wish they come up with something that can block sugar and carb!!!

But do give it a try. Everyone is different and TE are not there for us as we do not exceed the amount of fat.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Indian Cooking

    Hi Chahak,

Thanks for your resonse.  Yeah, even I have been wondering if alli would be of any use for our Indian diet.  I started taking the pills today (afternoon),I guess I will try em for a month and see how it helps me.  If youdont mind me asking, in the past 5 months, how much have you benefitted from alli?

    Take care

    Re: Indian Cooking

It would not be very encouraging but i am not benefitted at all. But then each and everyone is different. So may be you will be able to loose. I think i am going back on Weight Watchers. I had lost 22 lbs with WW. I lost patience with WW and thought this is easier and better. But didn't happen this way. DO give it a try and see. I have given it a good 5 months try and i am going to try for one more month.

    Re: Indian Cooking

it's working OK for me...loosing 1 1/2 lb per week.I'm mom of 2 kids...adding ghee for their  roti & dal but reduced fat in my food.Using belive it's not butter for "taraka" & where oil is too necessary, using half oil & half the other...i think our regular food is ideal for alli...just avoid creamy sabji like palak paneer/dal makhani etc. eat fulaka instead paratha...add more rayata/vegis...might will work...just keep watch on cals. in cup wheat fl.has 260 cal...so 2 roti makes 260...like that...Good luck.

    Re: Indian Cooking

how can we start the party w/o u!!!

oh well I amsupposed to be eating 1800 cals as per alli, its sooo sotugh to eat soo much food...I am doing aroun 12-1300 cals a day

Well, as far as lunch ideas are concerned, I usually roll up some kind of sabzi in 2 rotis (w/o ghee) and 1-1.5 cups dal and a lil bit of non fat yogurt.  Or else, some kind of home made (low fat) veggie soup w/ a sandwich (WW bread)

I dunno much about non veggie items, as I am a veggie.

Today is my 3rd day on alli...dont feel anything different yet.

     Good luck to all

    Re: Indian Cooking

here is one luch idea...might will enjoy...

    Chicken keema sandwich:

    1/2 tsp oil,add 1 big onion chopped

add salt so onion will get browned quick will less oil

add garlic ginger paste 1 tsp, coriander powder, turmeric, chili powder ...saute for 3-4 mins

add chicken keema ..about 1 cup (u get it in chicken section only...no need to wash/cut etc.)

"without adding any water" saute the things & put cover...try to break/crumble the keema in between till it cooks...may be 5-7 mins.

add lot of chopped coriander !!

in sandwich maker...put keema in between two whole wheat breads..make a san. & have it hot with ketchup !!

    2 breads-100cals (nature's own brand)

    keema-abt 150 cals for 1 sandwich

    oil,onion & spices etc -not more than 100 cals....ta da !!! 100 % sure..must be within 400 cals & with lots of protein/fiber
