Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

for anyone that put grapes on their list...

Try freezing some grapes (this is especially a good snack for kids if you have kids too).  It makes for a wonderful summer snack, and because they are cold and take longer to chew up you most likely wont eat as many (I tend to get carried away with the grapes if they arent frozen).  Its also great for when you are eating them while doing work, because they take longer to get warm.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

I like the Honey Maid low fat graham crackers. A serving is two full sheets for 120 calories and 2 grams of fat. However, it can be cut in half by just having one sheet which is plenty for a snack. Also, I love the chocolate fat free pudding and the jello too. I have to stay away from some things like popcorn and potato chips because right now it's hard for me to limit myself to small portions. Also, two years ago I stopped eating all meats but I was still eating junk foods which was of course a bad thing. So now, I quit the junk foods and have added fish to my diet and it's working just fine.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

Snacks for me need to be healthy, low fat, and/or economical.  If I can hit two of those marks I feel pretty darn good!

    1. graham crackers and low fat milk
    2. dry toast and jelly---I never knew you could eat toast without butter!
    3. Cheese-its, reduced fat.  Buy a box and bag up servings!  WAY cheaper.  28 crackers is only 130 calories and 4 fat grams.
    4. hot cocoa, either fat free or regular (only 2-3 grams depending on brand)
    5. english muffin with 1 TBL red fat Jif
    6. grapefruit
    7. smoothie with fruit only
    8. yoplait yogurt
    9. can of spinach heated up ---go ahead, say EEEWWWWW
    10. applesauce, no sugar added, with a hand full of Special K flakes ontop for crunch.

      11.  And did I mention Toast?  12 grain toast with jelly, sweet, crunchy, warm....mmmmmm  I like me some toast!

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

I just started Alli a couple of days ago and so far so good, I am doing great. Not even the side effects are as bad as what I thought they would be. I bought this Microwaveable fresh popcorn maker at Walmart about a week ago and it REALLY comes in handy when you are having a craving for something salty. I don't even put butter in it! Instead I use the spray butter and cover the kernals with it before I pop them, then I also add a bit of garlic salt and onion powder. It smells SO wonderful when it is cooking and taste YUMMY!! After it's done I add two tsp. of parmesean cheese which equals to a gram and a half of fat. So delicious. It's called the Presto Pop Bowl if anybody is interested and its about $13 dollars at about any major Walmart.

Also another favorite I found is low fat cherry yogurt with crushed graham crackers!

Love all the post and look forward to trying all these wonderful recipes!

    Best wishes.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

I made the chick peas last night and snacked on them today. They are really really good that way. But, I think I am going to either have to cook them longer or not cook them on my cooking stone. They weren't as crispy as I would have liked.

Re: Top 10 List: Favorite snacks to grab and go!

    tammytulips:

    oatmeal creme brulee

    2 cups quick oats -- or 2 1/4 cups old-fashioned oats, uncooked
    1/3 cup splenda
    1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
3 1/3 cups nonfat milk [soymilk works well -- too]
2 eggs -- or 1/3 cup egg substitute, lightly beaten
    2 teaspoons vanilla
1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 8-inch-square glass baking dish with cooking spray.

In large bowl, combine oats, granulated sugar and salt.

In medium bowl, combine milk, eggs and vanilla; mix well. Add to oat mixture; mix well. Pour into baking dish. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until center jiggles slightly. Removed from oven to cooling rack.

Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over top of oatmeal. Using back of spoon, gently spread sugar into a thin layer across entire surface of oatmeal. Return to oven; bake just until sugar melts, about 2 to 3 minutes. Set oven to broil. Broil 3 inches from heat until sugar bubbles and browns slightly, 1 to 2 minutes. (Watch carefully to prevent burning. It may be necessary to turn baking dish.) Spoon into bowls to serve.
