    Made it to the gym

OK, I made it.  I just did it and went.

I walked for 1/2 hour and then decided that was enough for today.

I feel a tiny victory.  On the treadmill I could hear all my defeatest stuff rambling on in my brain.

    It's too much, I don't want to, it doesn't matter, I don't matter, how irrelevant I feel.

These are all psychological things that got me 80 lbs overweight.  I met them all on the way up in weight and now I will revisit them on the way down...but I have over 40 pounds and have lost 10.

MAybe if I just keep eating right and taking Alli and getting myself to the gym to do what I feel strong enough to do with maybe a little push I will continually feel better...endorphins right?!

Then as I get I will be able to feel more empowering things to think about.  I must get my body strong and healthy. I must even though right now it feels impossible.

Re: Made it to the gym

empowering is right!!!  Whenever I've worked out, did a little extra, and darn it...ran'/walked that 13k saturday, I felt empowered!!!  It makes you feel so good mentally and that is most of the game.  Loosing weight is a mind game!!!  Get that part down and you have it made.

    good for you for walking!!!!!

Re: Made it to the gym

    Thank you Terry,

I can really see that I a coming against all those negative ideas that  about myself and life that helped me to gain over 80 lbs in 6 years.  It is only natural that I would have to make peace with all that in getting healthy.

I will pray tonight for strength and plan on getting to the gym tomorrow as well.

    Thanks again,

    Jennie

Re: Made it to the gym

    Hi Jenny,

Congratulations!  You are taking the first steps and that is so important.  You have tyhe right attitude about eating right, sticking with alli and getting to the gym.  These are the keys to your weight loss - both now, and in the long-term.

30 minutes on the treadmill is great.  Aim for 30-60 minutes of cardio exercise at least three times per week, and I encourage you to beging strength training.  You can follow the exercises on this site, or ask a personal trainer at the gym to help you devise a workout plan that's right for you.

Most importantly, ignore those negative thoughts.  You are doing a positive thing and will get stronger as you continue.  When the scale starts to reflect it, you will feel more and more confident.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Re: Made it to the gym

Thank you for your support Paul,

I went to the gym Wednesday, Thursday and Today.  I walked and ran.  I wear a Polar

heart monitor and keep my heartrate between 125 and 155-160 for 45 minutes.

I walk at an incline of 3.5 and speed of 3.mph and then run at an incline of 1. and a peed of 4.1

until my heartrate goes up and if it gets to 160 then I slow down and I play with the incline and mph like that.

Yesterday I did a leg work out.  Leg press at 100lbs w/ 3 sets of 12, leg extensions & curls 40lbs w/3 sets of 12.

Today I worked out my upper body.  Both days I did sit ups.  It is discouraging to have the roll of fat just hanging there.  I hope that with time I can firm it up and that I have not done irreperable damage with the 80+ lbs I had gained.

I used to be a swimwear and lingerie model so I know how to work out and thankfully have excellent muscle memory.

Abs are the most challenging for me.

    I love this Alli plan!

Re: Made it to the gym

    Hi Jennie,

Let me say . . . good for you!  You certainly are working out smart.  Keep it up.  The only suggestion I would make is with your abdominal workouts.  Many people frustrated with that area tend you try to spot train and end up over-training, or not training hard enough because they think they should be working them every day.  This is not effective.  Your abdominals, like any other muscle, need to be broken down and then given adequate time to rest and repair in order to grow.  That means really focusing on the quality of your ab workouts, and then laying off for a couple of days to rest.

    Keep up the great work.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Re: Made it to the gym

Thanks Paul...I will take a few days to let my ab muscles repair as right now  I am pretty sore.

    It feels good though.
