Hi sarbis24,
It depends on the extent of the treatment effects.
Orlistat, the active ingredient in alli, inhibits the enzyme lipase (the enzyme that breaks down fat). With a 60mg dose about 25% of the fat is being blocked from absorption during a meal and will then be eliminated. The amount that is being eliminated is in proportion to the amount eaten.
Pschycologically speaking, when some people see the oily spotting they a reassured that alli is working. The oily spotting can occur at even the lower fat gram targets but not necessarily. The dreaded TEs are when there is an uncontrollable urge to go that occurs after a high fat meal is eaten but it can take effect upto 48 hours after that meals. This type of TE if experienced acts as a deterrant to over eating. This is the type of effect youe are trying to avoid.
Hope this helps.
