    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

There are various variations to this.  A box of chocolate cake mix and a can of diet coke - nothing else, cook as normal.

I used an orange cake mix and a can of diet sunkist - made it into cupcakes - quite tasty and even my grandson enjoyed them.

Do a search (upper right link) for soda cakes - you'll find lots of variations that we've posted over the past few months.

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

Thanks so much Sher!! Now do I need to use a certain type of cake mix...like a "just add water" one or a regular cake mix. And how does it change the Nutritional Facts once you alter the ingredients?? Sorry if these are too many questions...:)

Usually any chocolate cake mix such as Betty Crocker, etc, but not the "pudding" type.

You just put the soda in the mix and bake it? Literally nothing else?

I made this cake using choc cake mix and diet pepsi, and it was wonderful. I threw a few choc chips on top and let them melt. It was a lot healthier than frosting and my husband loved it too!

He is losing weight with me and isnt on the Alli plan, so everthing is working out really well.

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

Don't be afraid to mix it up!

My husband's favorite is a chocolate cake mix (we've also made it with vanilla cake mix and it was yummy as well.) with diet dr pepper's cherry vanilla.  He also likes the orange pineapple cake mix with faygo's diet orange pineapple soda.

I have yet to make a "Pop Cake" that we didn't like.

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

Okay I just have one question, I was always told that aspartame (what makes diet soda sweet) breaks down into formaldahyde when heated, thus you couldn't use it in baking.  A reason why Splenda was invented, so are you using Splenda sweeted soda or regular diet soda??  And if you are using regular diet soda does the cake have a funny after taste???

    Thanks

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

ive made a fanta one and a coke one with both cocolate and plain cake mix my kids love it it goes down great i use regular diet soda what ever is to hand ive never noticed a after taste even my husband who is a chef cpuld not belive it but after eating it had to admit that is was nice he says its just the concept of adding 1 can of soda takes a lot to get ya head round

my daughter even told her cookery teacher at school about the cake and she wouldnt belive it so i made one and sent it in she was amased and says she will even try to make one but still asks you sure you just add one can of soda nothing else

all i can say is try it for yourself nothing ventured nothing gained

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

I made it with diet pepsi. I detected a very slight after taste. My husband liked it too, which was good because he is such a stickler when it comes to trying something new. I serve it with Land O' Lakes Sugar Free whip topping (in the can). It is very refreshing! I have taken it to pot lucks at work and no one new it wasn't the real deal.

Succeeding "One Pain Free" step at a time.

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

I love baking and feel a very strong need to try this out. One can of diet coke and a cake mix, that's it?

    Re: Coke Cake--NEED RECIPE

Mychelle, don't limit yourself to just cake.  If you love baking, use the idea in muffins and breakfast breads.  Any box mix that calls for water, oil, and eggs.  If there are no extra ingredients the diet pop will replace it easily.  I love breakfast breads and muffins, so I use it.  My son who does not want to eat anything "low fat" loves the things.  He has issues with watching me make it, but loves it.  I favor diet pepsi or diet squirt, depending on what I am making.  The squirt flavors real well with muffins or breakfast breads; or any other citrus flavor would work well.
