When you get near the point where you want to start doing strength training, you might want to check your local gym to see if they have any "deals". 24 Hour Fitness, which is where I go had a "jumpstart" special which featured 5-25 minute sessions with a trainer.
I am almost through with that, and they have created for me a customized workout plan for strength training using a combination of equipment and free weights that I will use long after the training is over. The benefit of having a live trainer is they can show you exactly how to position your arms, and exactly how to use the equipment. A lot of the equipment can can be harmful if used wrong. And they can show you techniques that will help you get more out of each workout like pausing, cadence, etc.
You're doing so well, Teresa ... best of success to you,
Jim
