    Protein Shakes

I just started Alli this week and like many people I'm having a hard time getting my 1800 calories and 19 grams per meal.  I've read that some people suggest a protein shake.  Can anyone suggest one that will work in our program?

     Thanks!!

Try adding some flax to some of your meals .... eat a handful of nuts, peanut butter, use real butter instead of low fat junk ... learn to read the labels and you may find foods that fit right into your program (I'm also on the 1800/60 program) !!

Herbalife is great.  With the help of them and Alli, i've lost 20 lbs since July.  Find a local herbalife agent and speak with her.

A lot of people have trouble getting the full amount of fat at breakfast (which is when I assume you'd have this).  If you're accustomed to having something like cereal, skim milk and coffee for breakfast then skip the capsule.

Take the capsule for meal that have more than 5 grams of fat.  Take a look at the Sample Menus for the 1,800 calorie level.  Try to eat similar types and amounts of foods and that will help you stay close to your level.

    Re: Protein Shakes

    Pat,

I am wondering if it is ok to be UNDER my fat allotment?  The plan the website gave me was 1800 calories with 19 grams of fat/meal.  I have been under my fat grams consistently (ranging from 8-15 generally).  Is that OK?  The answer is probably posted somewhere on this website, but there is SO MUCH to go through, who has the time?

    Thanks.

Yes, I realize the info can be a little overwhelming.  You'll get best results if you stay as close to your recommendation as possible.  However, if breakfast has 5 grams of fat or less you can skip the capsule.

If you have a salad with LF or oil and vinegar dressing you'll boost those 15 gram meals right up.  You can also have a whole grain roll with peanut butter, or toss some nuts into salad or cereal, etc. to bring your fat higher.

I heard what you said about all the reading...but the top two posts on the Dietitians Message Board are "why calories and fat are so important" -- and definitely worth the read.

    Hope this helps.
