Does anyone know if you can drink Starbucks?

I am going to start taking Alli on January 4th, thought it would be a good New Years resolution AND close to the weekend in case I experience any treatment effects.

As an avid Starbucks drinker, does anyone know if there is anything "allowed" from Starbucks that isn't plain coffee?  I did a nutrition check on the drinks, and I normally get a Grande Cafe Mocha (skim milk, no whip) which is 220 calories, 2.5 fat grams.  This is all I will have for breakfast also since it keeps me full until lunch.  I know that the 2.5 fat grams fall within my 15 fat grams per meal, but I wasn't sure if this was alright for me to have as a breakfast.

    Any thoughts?? Thanks!

Hi, I know you can have Starbucks the light version but you should have more fat grams, fiber and protein with your meal. At 2.5 grams of fat you would not even need to take an alli it would be of little value to you

Re: Does anyone know if you can drink Starbucks?

I am just trying to start reading the books and figure out what I should/shouldn't be eating with taking Alli.

Since I have 1800 calories a day (approx 600 per meal), I could have the Starbucks but then add in other things such as wheat toast and peanut butter or banana and peanut butter, etc?

Do you have anything else for breakfast in addition to your Starbucks?  Maybe I should try the Latte which will just be skim milk and espresso. And congratulations on 60 lbs since July...that is awesome!  I am hoping to just get back to a size where I will feel happy about myself again

I love the light frappachinos but only have them occasionally, I know that adding toast and peanut butter to your meal would definitely help. There is a post about eating all your fat grams and calories from Betty that if you haven't read may help. I have also heard its better to have 3 meals and a couple 100 calorie snacks thru out the day. Helps to keep your metabloism up to eat more often

These are good suggestions, Belle1.  It's definitely a good idea to have something to eat in the morning.  The Sample Menus don't have to be followed precisely, but you'll lose weight more effectively if you eat similar types and amounts of food.  That will also give you the calories and fat without having to do a lot of calculating.

Yes, Starbuck's is fine.  They provide nutrition information for all their food and beverages.  Just plug in the numbers and see how they fit.  It would be good to add some fuit and a low-fat yogurt; toast & PB; or whatever to help get closer to the numbers.

Hey Melissa! Thanks so much for the great idea. I tried a latte once and wasn't a HUGE fan, but I am sure I would be able to switch for the sake of losing weight : )  My thing is that I don't like just plain coffee, but Starbucks is an essential part of my morning...plus it helps me make it through the day.

Re: Does anyone know if you can drink Starbucks?

You can visit Starbuck's website to view the nutritional value for each beverage.  I would recommend, however, that you eat something in the morning.  While your cup of hot Joe may perk you up, it will not provide adequate nutrition for the most important meal for the day.  Be careful of the “dessert” coffee because they will certainly ruin your diet plan.  Good luck.

Sounds like a winning combo to me.  You really do need more than just coffee. Your mother really did know what she was talking about...Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  It sets the stage for the rest of the drama.

     Pat,

I too enjoy my Starbucks each morning (Grande Non-fat 1 Splenda Latte) and am glad to hear it shouldn't interfere with my weight loss efforts. I usually have oatmeal for breakfast a little later in the morning after my coffee. I'm not one to get up and have breakfast, my stomach is not used to it but I've been working on that and I'm just about there as long as it's pretty bland (hence the oatmeal). Anyway, I just purchased the alli starter program but have not started it yet because I want to do a little research first to be able to meal plan successfully. My question to you is ... although I always get caffeinated latte's, would non-caffeinated be a better choice?

    Please advise.
