    Olive oil?

I know it says to avoid oils/vegetable oils...But, what about extra virgin olive oil for cooking? I also use it as a salad dressing...a little drizzle, some lemon juice and salt & pepper.

    Re: Olive oil?

I would also like to know the answer to this!  It says that low-fat popcorn is alright...I make my own at home using a little bit of olive oil (just enough to coat the kernels).  I hope I don't experience any side effects.

    Re: Olive oil?

I have just read through the Alli Diet Book again to make sure I can offer  accurate information in response to your question. Why? Because I really want for all of us to succeed! ALL oil is 100 % fat, and should be counted as part of your fat gram intake. We are advised to avoid trans fats and man-made made fats and saturated fats as much as possible, but even the GOOD fats  which contain omega-3 fatty acids need to be counted accurately.  Make sure to measure and count even that little bit of oil you pop your popcorn with. I bought an air popper, and then found that even air-popped corn has .5 grams of fat in a 2 cup serving. I don't know if I want to take some to the movies! I am on Day 3 with no treatment effects, but I am hyper vigilant about my fat intake.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!

    Re: Olive oil?

Extra virgin olive oil is certainly a more healthy choice of oils, but in terms of fat grams, oil is oil.  Each tablespoon, no matter what kind, is 14 grams of fat.

    Re: Olive oil?

Even though olive oil is a "good fat", it's still a fat and you'll need to keep an eye on the portion. I just looked at the back of my olive oil bottle, and it says that 1 tbsp is 14g of fat.  With the 15g of fat/meal recommendation, I would watch how much you use so you don't get the dreaded treatment effects.

    Re: Olive oil?

you have to have fat on the diet otherwise alli doesn't do anything since it doesn't work on carbohydrates or protein.

So olive oil is one of the best. it's a perfect monounsaturated fat - as you said "drizzle" which is perfect since oils inherently are entirely fat so you can't go crazy. Even though it's a healthy fat, it doesn't fall into another category. So, some of the oil will stay in the pan, etc.., but some will be absorbed by the food and you will need to guestimate, primarily to avoid treatment effects and consuming hidden calories that slow your weight loss. Don't need to be fat phobic since you need to eat fat to lose fat. Be aware that whatever your protein you might be having at that meal may also contain fat. While it should be lean, it still has some fat that should be accounted for.

skinless chicken *** might not have as much fat as wild salmon does, but on the other hand, the salmon has heart healthy omega 3 fats while the chicken doesn't. So the fat is critical for health reasons and for the feeling of fullness and satiety they bring. Just keep in mind, it's present in a lot of animal protein type foods too.

But, if you are cooking in oil, that counts too, so i try to minimize that and use it on a salad or other veggies.

Depending on your total calories, the fat should be 30% of your daily caloric intake and the oil as well as any other fat you consume is part of that total.

    Re: Olive oil?

As i was reading your post, I thought huh I was going to make the blueberry muffin recipe out of the Alli book, and thought it had canola oil in it. I just read the back of my canola oil and it too says 1 tablespoon is 14g of fat, but I guess because it makes 12 muffins it should be ok. We will see....
