    Hi dunkerrs,

The alli package label states that an individual who is taking thyroid medication should check with their physician prior to use.  With weight loss thyroid medication dosage may need to be adjusted and more frequent monitoring of thyroid levels may be needed.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi grandmaking,

As the alli label states, if you are taking thyroid medication you need to check with your physician prior to alli use.  With weight loss the dosage may need to be adjusted as well as more frequent monitoring of thyroid levels.  It is more difficult to lose without the thyroid because of the effect on your body's metabolism but it can be done.  Your body rapidly adapts to an exercise routine so you need to be changing it around until you find something that works like varying the intensity and including resistance training.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

    Hi dunkerrs,

I just found out I have hypothyroidism and started my first Rx this morning.  I checked with my pharmacist, and she said that you need to take your thyroid medicine at least two hours before your Alli.  She said that the levothyroxine won't be absorbed if you take them too close together.

    Hope this helps!!

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

I am hypothyroid, and have been taking Levothyroxine since Oct, and have lost 65 pounds since July.  I have added exercise (kickboxing, body scultping classes, boxing classes, and cardio on the eliptical machines, and treadmill) and have seen a big change in the way my body is shaping up.

I was happy with my size 12 jeans, and never thought I would be wearing 10's!

I take the Levothyroxine as soon as I wake up in the morning 4:30-5am, so it doesnt interfer with Alli.

Alli has been a literal life saver for me!

    Hi Tiffany,

Just to clarify, thyroid medication needs to be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before taking any other medication to ensure proper blood levels.  The spacing of the dose is not specific to alli.

    Best of Luck!

I also have thyroid problems and am worried about taking Alli.  What do you mean when you say spacing of the dose of thyroid medication is not  specific to Alli.

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

I also take Levoth. for my thyroid and I am begining to think the 2 do not mix.  I take my thyroid medicine in the morning on an empty stomach.  My Alli pill about 1 1/2- 2 hours later.  I have tried to start up my running again and find I do not have the energy.  Normally when I forget to take my thyroid medicine my energy decreases.  Right now I feel like I am super tired and do not have any energy.  I will either make a doctors appointment  or ......????  I also posted something on the alli thread to talk to the nutr. about maybe my body is not absorbing enough of something in order for me to properly run.  Does that make sense??  I use to have no problems running but now, since Alli, I can barely do it well.  I do not like this feeling and am not sure if it is my thyroid or if Alli is doing this to me.

So those that do have thyroid problems please be careful and watch for any differences.  Listen to your body.

Hello. as the package labeling states, if you are taking medication for thyroid disease, you should talk to your doctor before using alli. A syou lose weight, your doctor may need to monitor your thyroid function.

    Good luck and good health!

    Judi,

I'm just concerned with the Alli interfering with my Levothyroxine's absorption.  I have had so many symptoms for so long, I don't want to do anything to make it not work.  I've been skipping my morning dose of Alli to make sure that my levo is absorbed.  I guess just hearing about your routine and how quickly your symptoms went away would make me feel better.  I've only been on the meds for 4 days now, so I know that I need to be patient.  Help!!!

    Hi Patricia13,

Thyroid medications need to be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before eating and taking any other medication.

    Hope this clarifies.

Re: Alli and Hypothyroidism taking Levothyroxine

Hello all!  I am also hypothyroid and have no thyroid.  I take Synthroid and Cytomel.  I have been on Alli since early February and have lost 33 lbs in 16 weeks.  I LOVE Alli!  We have a message board string for folks with hypothyroidism in the 50 - 100 lb need to lose section.

I take my Synthroid and Cytomel in the morning when I get up.  An hour later I have breakfast consisting of less than 5 gms of fat, so I do not take the morning dose of Alli.  I take Centrum at bedtime.

I feel fabulous!  I look fabulous and my doctors are really, really pleased with my progress.

Due to the weight loss and a corresponding drop in my TSH, my Synthroid dose was lowered from 150 mcg to 125 mcg two weeks ago.  I've only lost 1 lb in those two weeks, but am hoping it's only a coincidental plateu.  In any case, I'm not discouraged.

Alli has brought me back to life!  I now wear a size 18 without the W behind the size!  Ha!  Come join us on our message board and share your success!

    Kim
