I'm new and have a TE question

I just took my first Alli last night with dinner.  I have read and read and read about the program and about TE's and I actually posted yesterday but I just need some reassurance.  I am so paranoid that the "loose stools that are hard to control" are going to occur while out with my two toddlers or anywhere, for that matter.  I fully intend on sticking to the plan and as a former Weight Watcher, reading labels and understanding what I'm eating is second nature.  As long as the plan is followed (fat and calories w/i range) TE's should not happen, correct?  Oh, any specfics you can provide would be so helpful.  Not to be dramatic about it but I'm kind of freaking out.  Thanks.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

    Hi!

    Don't freak!

Okay-I will try not to be too gross about this.  When I first started Alli, I would have gas and then know to go to the bathroom.  I had some semi-loose stools or oil floating on the water, but nothing that wasn't controllable.  Knock on wood, no accidents.  I too, am watching my calories and fat grams.  I think, if you follow the program, you will not have a problem.  I also think I read that if you overdo your fat, that the te's won't show up for 24-48 hours.  You could search at the top right and find any articles on te's.  Some people said to carry pantiliners and a spare pair or such, if your concerned.  You have toddlers; you can put it in their bag.

    Good luck!

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Firewife, that's a concern most of us shared when we started.  That's why they recommend that you start the pills on or just before the weekend so you can see how your body reacts to them when you are likely to be at home to take care of unexpected surprises.  I never had any te's myself.  Gas, yes, but no uncontrollable bowel incidents.  You're already aware of fats and calories in foods.  Make sure you use the nutrition log to record what you are eating.  Or better yet, record what you're going to eat before you do it to see where the fats and calories come out.  You're correct that if you follow the fats and calories, te's are not likely to happen.  Good luck with your weight loss journey.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Firewife (love the name) you would likely have to really be a bad girl and pig out on some serious greasy food to lose all control.  Folks on here are tired of my story but I will share with you.  I am an old man who finally found a girl to marry me at close to hundred years old (well actually 68) and on our honeymoon she insisted on eating an entire bag of pork rinds while taking alli.  We went into the mountains and yep, she did have an accident like when she was in the first grade.  But, that is just life and now it is hilarious to us.  At the worse, you may someday ruin a good pair of panties and you will be buying smaller ones in six months or so anyway after losing the weight.  Stay with us.  Jim

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Firewife, I loved Jim's story.  I am at 1600 calories and have been on Alli since June, first day it was available in my area.   Mostly I have gas.  If I exceed my fat by about 40% of the meal, then I usually get oil in the toliet.  Though I have had loose stools, I have never not made it.  I had been on Alli for over a month and thought I would "test the waters" so to speak and had deep fried catfish and still made it to the bathroom in time.  I don't recommend the meal again ... and feel free to laugh...my husband caught the fish and had a new fryer so I felt obligated.  I was also worried when I started so I also used the panty liners for about the first two weeks straight; it was reassuring.    Best of luck !  Lorraine

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

I've found, too, that as long as I don't go overboard, I'm fine. Except for some oil in the stool (which is what you want), I still go to the bathroom in the morning like I did before the Alli. I've had semi-bad TE's, but that was when I "tested" the product with a small burger and small fry.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

    hello,

since we're on the topic. I just finished my first day. Stayed under the caloric and fat requirement. Actually did better than I thought I would. Anyway, you mentioned that it's good to have oily stools? This morning it's more just gas and i had a normal stool. Well it wasn't as easy to go as it usually is. I very regular ( nice?? sorry) and so I notice every different thing when it comes to going to well... yeah.

I'm nervous to have TE's but fear that if I don't have any then I'm  not doing it right.

    thx

It concerns me that you think you have to have TEs to know you are taking alli correctly. That statement simply is not true. I have not had any TEs and yet I've lost weight. Admittedly, if I know I'm going to go over my fat intake for a meal, I do not take a pill for that meal.  Meet your calories and meet your fat intake per meal and you should be fine.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Poor firewife doesn't know what to do with info that could make her think she has to have T.E.'s and another message saying it ain't so.  Well, I think the advise was implying that you would not necessarily see the oil, but that it was a good thing that Alli would be carrying out 25% of your fat intake from the day before or so.  I mean, the whole point of Alli is to both carry out some of the fat to help you lose weight, and to remind you of your incorrect eating habits, if you over eat fat.

Truth be known firewife, I suspect the majority of us do have a little fun and get reminded by the T. E.'s, on occasion, although many are so disciplined that they follow the rules all the time and never have the first treatment.   But for sure, it is nothing to be horrified at, if you do have them.  Generally, a person has to really go overboard and pig out, like I occasionally do, to have a slightly painful, noisy, smelly or messy T. E.  Sorry to be so descriptive but I was not potty trained until I was older and I consider all this part of being human.

In as much as I have succeeded twice at reaching my goals and now look like a Hollywood star, (yeah right,) I would not take a hundred thosand dollars to go back to the weight I once was or more importantly, to go back to the high cholestral and high blood pressure that plagued me for over 25 years and was clearly shortening my life.

So take my advise and stick with the program and give yourself a few weeks to see how it goes.  Jim

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

I love Jim's story.  I have purchased Alli and just getting knowledge.  I have read the threads and feel very much a part of the group.  i am a middle age woman going through her change and quit smoking.  I have gone up, up up to 200 pounds and look forward to getting started.  I will take my first pill next week, i promise.  I know I just have to get started and get over the TE fear.  Being Super Bowl Sunday.  (GO PATS!!!) I know i will be eating bad on nerves like buffalo chicken wings.  I really wonder just how much fat are in those babies?  But on a serious note, I know i must get back on track.  My birthday is Tuesday 4th and I want it to be the day I take my first pill and that I will do.   I hope those buffalo wings do not show up......SCARED.

Well will all of you on my side.  I know I will reach my goal and get there.  I hope I can be as much of an inspiration as you all have been to me in the coming months......Thanks for all the support..........Cooke

    Hi

I think buffalo wings are not good... there is a thread somewhere on Superbowl foods. Do a search from top right hand corner of screen.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Well congrats Ms Cookie on the cessation of smoking, first of all, and secondly on your being so durn smart as to go the only real weight loss way to go, if you intend to keep it off.  The real and only answer to keeping the weight off is simply science.  That is the beauty of the Alli plan.  No gimmicks, not magic, just plain good science.  The Alli plan will teach you every single thing you need to know to get healthy and stay healthy, as far as I am concerned.  As you can see from my huge message called "Confessions of a Winner" on here, Alli saved my life.  So I am a bit of a radical, combined with my love of all women.

Now though I worship all women, I hate sports and do not understand your apparant love of the "Pats," whoever they are.  But you need to listen to Ms. Jane here and forget the buffalo wings and look for some alternatives.  If you have to have them and know you are going to eat them, I would seriously think of just NOT taking Alli at all on Sunday.  That is, unless you really are like me and not bothered by matters of toileting.  If you eat the chicken wings (more than one, I would think), you will be spending some time in the bathroom and it may be at an inconvienent time.  But rest assured, it will not be during the game.  LOL.  I just thought of a poem to tell your story but I had better not.

I will be enjoying the company of my new wife while you are watching those silly men bump into one another.  Oh well.  Different strokes for different folks or however the saying goes.  And BTW,  I am so happy you gave up smoking.  You are obviously a very smart cookie (pardon the pun.)  If you are a glutton for punishment and insist on not taking Janes advise and you still insist on taking the Alli, please share what will be a great story.  I care not who wins the game but you could let me know when the cheerleader come on.  Jamesm.

Re: I'm new and have a TE question

Thanks for the reply Jane.  I really do not think that buffalo wings are not the best.  I will start taking my pills on Feb. 4th my birthday, so I am trying to be good.  My husband wants to go to the "99" reastaurant this evening and I always get skins and wings, so good.  I also get the tropical salad with chicken, dressing on the side.  My last hurray so to speak.  I am really looking forward to getting on track.  i know that being worried about TE's is going to help me lose weight alone because i will fear eating LOL.

I know I will get there because i must lose weight.  i need to get healthy.  Is is true if you are going to eat fatty food on a given day not to take the pills.  I have not intention of doing that though after I get started.  I love reading the feedback...................Cookie
