    EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I started taking Alli in August and have been following a very healthy diet and exercise 4-6x's a week. I noticed after the first month a slight hair loss and thought nothing of it. Now in January I have noticed in the past two months a tremendous amount of hair loss which has now extended to my eyebrows, eyelashes and on occasion my nose hair. My hair stylist even noticed a dramatic difference and was worried about when she was doing my hair how much hair was falling out. Is this common? What should I do? Discontinue the product?

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

If you are worried, understandably, I would contact my doctor.  I'm sure he can do a blood test to see how all of your levels are and make sure it is not something else.  In the meantime, you may want to boost your protein intake--but also keep your eyes open to a response from the dietician--she will know better than me.

    Good luck!

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

Hello-- Yea, see I already do eat a pretty balanced diet. I'm not going to lie...I break on occasion eat fast foods sometimes or splurge a little here or there but its not an everyday thing. I eat my veggies everyday, I eat my fruit, I eat my protein, I try to eat organic when I can, I chose low fats, I eat my yogurt for calcium....so I'm just not sure as to what I'm missing or doing wrong or need to change. I just never experienced this type of hair loss in my life before and I'm only 22 (never been pregnant either nor am I which is something I saw in other discussion boards and not on any other medication aside from BC for the last 5 years).

Hope the dietician finds something for me!!

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

When dieting severely once before, and working out heavily, I too started losing hair.  It was totally a protein issue.  Once I upped my protein with a supplement,  it all came back.  Dietician will know best, but is there any possibility you are working out TOO strenuously for the calories and protein you are taking in?

I suggest that you call our product customer service line at 1-800-671-2554 (M-F 9am – 9pm EST) and discuss it with them.  It's very unusual, and should be resolved immediately.

    I hope this helps.

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I am also experiencing a major amount of hair loss. I am 31, healthy and over the past year have lost 65 lbs. I started taking Alli when it first came out in June. I do not over use the product, I mainly use Alli when I eat out. I am not too restrictive on my diet. And get PLENTY of protein. I take a multivitamin daily, along with a Biotin supplement for hair support. I noticed about 3 months ago my hair falling out more then usual. For the past month, it's unreal how much hair I am losing. I can pull my fingers though my hair and the hair just falls out. I already saw my doctor for blood work. Everything was normal. I am really wondering if Alli has anything to do with it. I called the comsumer line mentioned above, they documented my case, but offered no further info.

If there are any more people out the experiencing hair loss, please, either reply to this message or call the comsumer line so that we can know for sure if this is a side effect.

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I have been on Alli for almost a year.  I've lost 51 pounds. That's the good news.

I noticed my hair thinning about nine months ago, but I figured it was my age.  This month I am losing a lot of hair. Given the incidents recorded here, I think I might give Alli a break for the summer and see what happens.

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I am a healthy 34 year old, with about 25 lbs to lose.  I definately experience an abundance of hair loss when I am taking Alli.  I stopped taking it and after a while it subsided.  I started again and the hair loss started again.  I am certain that it is Alli causing my hair loss, especially after the research I have done and the other experiences I have read about, but still believe that Alli has a lot of positive effects too.  I have cut down my usage to my biggest meal of the day, but don't know if this will help my weigh loss much.  My hair loss is less, but still obvious.  I don't know what to do...

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I'm posting this on all the hair loss threads so I apologize if you've seen it somewhere else.  I have not had any problems with Alli, but I did years ago when I started a strenuous diet and exercise program.  My fitness trainer figured out I was not getting enough protein which is necessary for hair.  I took some supplements and made sure my diet was heavier in lean protein and lighter in other food groups and the hair came back despite continuing to lose weight and exercise like crazy.  Since with Alli you probably started a diet and upped your exercise, you might want to consider whether you are getting enough protein and not just focusing on salads, etc. that might be low cal but not give you everything that you need.

I can only hope the answer is this simple but it is worth a try.  Good luck!

This is a good point you've made.  It's also important to follow the alli diet as a whole.  That is to have the recommended amounts of vegetables, whole grains and dairy -- in addition to protein.  AND, it's very, very important to take the multivitamin at bedtime as directed.

My sense is that some people are omitting that and it's important.

    Thanks for your comment.

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

I have also been experiencing hair loss since using Alli. I have been taking it for about 6 months and have lost about 30lbs. The hair loss is getting worse so I will be stopping Alli. I am hoping it will grow back and hope to keep the weight off as well!

    Re: EXPIERENCING SEVERE HAIR LOSS

Congrats on the 30 pounds -- that's outstanding!  I strongly recommend that you call the product customer service line at 1-800-671-2554 (M-F 10am – 6pm ET) and talk to them about it.

You might stop the capsules for a couple of days and then resume and see what happens.  It's very important to take the multivitamin at bedtime so I hope you're doing that each night.  In any event, do check in with customer service.

    Keep up the good work!

    Pat
