    Re: Peri-menopausal/menopausal women with teenagers?

    Good morning all!

I was down two pounds yesterday and am up a pound today.  I am really getting tired of bouncing these two or three pounds around for the last three weeks.  I have been consistant with my exercise and have been staying within my fat and cal limits except for a couple of minor slip ups, but I seem to have hit a plateau already.  I even tried doubling up on the Alli (checked with my doctor first) but it didn't seem to help.  I would like to be able to just stay off the scale for a couple of weeks.  I am following healthy habits so that will have to be it's own reward for now I guess.  Hope you all are having more success.

Welcome not2bigmama!  Cute nick name!  Wow!  Big congrats on your 30 pound loss already.  I hope Alli can speed things up for you.  It really seems to work well for some people.  I love yor positive attitude.  I should make a list for myself to get me through this frustrating period.  I have lost the craving for sweets too, for the most part, though this week I did feel a few.  I bought some popsicles.  40 cals each and no fat.  They seem to satisfy that craving.  Hope you'll come back and let us know how you're doing.

Princess, I'm hoping my little gain is due to my TOM too.  We'll see.  I guess it is really a personal choice whether to take Alli when you know you are going to be over on your fat.  I think of it this way.  Let's say I go over on my fat with a larger serving of steak than I should have had.  A three ounce piece of beef tenderloin is 9 grams of fat.  If I had 6 ounces (18grams) and another 5 or 6 fat grams in the rest of my dinner, that puts me at 24 grams of fat for my dinner.  At 10 calories each, that is 240 calories of fat.  Alli will save me 1/4 of that which is 60 calories.  Is it worth it to me to risk TE's or just have the fear of TE's for two days for 60 calories?  For me it's not.  I would much rather do an extra mile on the treadmill or make up the 60 calories later in the day or the next day.  But as you say, this is a personal choice and if making yourself go through the TE experience is a motivator for you, I say go for it.  Having said this, I have rarely skipped my Alli.  There have been a couple of times in a restaurant when I wasn't sure if I had gone over and I took the Alli anyway with no repercussions.   Could be I didn't go over or maybe I can just handle a bit of extra fat.  I still don't know.

Well I am off to a Yoga class.  Hope you all have a good day.

What has happened to this thread?  Did sapf & my minor disagreement scare everybody off?

I hope not, because as sapf said, to each her own on whether or not to skip a pill on a high fat meal.

come back sapf & everyone else!!!

    Re: Peri-menopausal/menopausal women with teenagers?

hey there fellow menopausal ladies! I'm 51, have 3 daughters and a grandson. People used to say I was to thin! I've managed to put 17 lbs. on and it really shows on a short 5'2. I work out at Jazzercise 4 days a week and stand as a hairstylist for my job. I can really feel the strain on my back and legs with this extra weight. I need to stop it before it becomes more. Today is friday and I started Ali on tuesday. I'm down 2 lbs. with no treatment effects. However, i've been really really careful. Probably not eating enough because I'm alittle paranoid. I don't need to take the pill for breakfast because I usually eat no fat yogurt. ('I'm not a breakfast girl)  One of my big issues is wine. I love to drink a couple glasses a day. I'm trying to work that in with the calories I eat so I can continue to have it. Anybody out there a wine drinker?  I wish you all luck and will be watching your progress.

Hey, you and I have the same bio! Except that you're an inch taller and my kids finally are out on there own.  I've cut back to only one glass of a very nice wine with dinner only.  It works for me, and I enjoy that glass much more, I think.

    Re: Peri-menopausal/menopausal women with teenagers?

    Hey, Betta & Debbie,

I'm not sure what's happened to all the other ladies that used to post on this thread, they've been silent for about 3 weeks now. I would like to welcome you, though.

I'm 45 & have been in peri-menopause for the last 4 years or so & from what my sisters tell me, it may be another 4 or more before I can actually say I'm in full-blown mennie. I wish I was like them & missed a period every so often, but I'm on the flip side of that album. I sometimes have 2 or 3 a month :P. I'm the youngest of 5 girls (well I guess I should say women, huh, considering the subject matter of this thread), so of course I have to be different. I've never liked going along with the crowd, but this is ridiculous!

Let's see, as I said I'm 45 I'm also 5'1" & started alli at 207, but am now down to 194. I still have 3 lbs to go to reach my first short-term goal.

Again welcome & good luck on your weight loss.

    Princess Evie

PS to the monitors:  Sorry about the earlier post, I was not aware of that rule, since I learned about the other site from others on this thread.
