Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

    Martha,

I am in the same boat - over 50 and need to lose weight.  I live in Oregon and I have 2 kids, one in high school and one in college.   I have so much weight to lose it gets me down.  I hope we can keep in contact and help each other lose weight.

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

Ok, I did the weigh in yesterday.  Only lost 1 pound, so I was kind of disappointed.  I thought I had been doing really well food wise.  One pound is still one pound closer to my goal!!

I know that I need to exercise more.  Does anyone want to be accountable with me for an exercise program?  I love to walk, but don't care to do it alone.  Maybe that is just an excuse :)

How is everyone else doing?  I hope you are all making progress and enjoying the journey.  Just think, in a while we can look at our old pictures and say remember when.  Thanks Charlotte for writing me back.  Aren't those grandkids such fun!!  I just love them so.  They help keep me young.

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

I would love to keep in contact with the "over 50 group". I turned 50 last year and am 30+ pounds overweight.  I started Alli 4 days ago and so far so good.  I'm trying not to look at the scale until next Tuesday for my check-in, but this morning I couldn't wait.  I've lost 5 lbs so far.  I know some is water, but I'm also starting to feel a bit better.

I had a small bout of TE's, but nothing that bothered me.  No pain, bloating or gas yet.  I know it's going to be a long haul, most diets are, but I really need to keep this up!!!  Hopefully, we all can cheer each other on.

My name is Carol and I live in Florida.  Let's keep in touch.

SW: 183.5 - size 16 CW: 160.5 - size 12 (very comfortable!) GW: 145 - size 10 (very comfortable also) Goal date: July 2008 lbs lost to date: 24.5 19 lbs to go!!!!!!

    Charlotte

Keep the faith.  Next week you may see a big difference in your weight.  It is disappointing when you have tried so hard, but there may be other factors from the week that kept you at the same weight.  Have a good week and hang in there :)

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

    Hi Corrine,

My name is Barb and I'm 52 yrs old too. I have been very ill this last year and had to be on steriods. I gained 30 lbs and now the doctor just took me off the steriods. I am ready to lose these added lbs and need all the encouragement I can get. I think just being able to message other people who has has struggles with their weight helps alot. So next week hopefully we will be lighter that today. Good luck and I'll check in next Thursday. Barb

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

    Hi Mary,

This is Barb and wanted you to know I live in Oklahoma too. I struggled this week but was able to lose 2 lbs. I have tried to excerise every day. I quess the excerise paid off. Like you I want to change the way I eat, as eating for emotional reasons can make us put on lots of weight. Hope I can support you and all of us who are really needing each other support. I also want to say Hi to Corrine and hope your week went well.

    We can do it!!!!!!!!!!

    Barb

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

HI I"M KATHY. I'D REALLY LIKE TO JOIN YOUR GROUP. I  HAVE OVER 50 LBS. TO LOSE TOO . MY SITUATION IS I HAVE NO MORE LEFT TO GIVE. I WORK OVER 8 HOURS A DAY, NOT INCLUDING A LUNCH HOUR. STANDING ON MY FEET, MOVING AROUND TO WAIT ON PEOPLE WITH STORE RETURNS. I HAVE NOTING LEFT TO GIVE IN THE EXERCISE CATAGORY BECAUSE, AT THE END OF THE DAY MORE ANKLES HURT WITH ARTHRITIS, I KNOW IT WOULD BE BETTER IF I COULD LOSE THE WEIGHT. I'VE BEEN WITH THE ALLI PROGRAM SINCE MAY 18. AND HAVE LOST ABOUT 4 POUNDS. MY QUESTION IS ISN'T 18 GRAMS OF FAT PER MEAL ALOT??? I'M ON CHOLESTROL MEDICINE TOO.. I WOULD APPRICATE ANY INPUT YOU HAVE. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING.

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

I am 54 also.  My step-daughter came to visit from Fairbanks, Alaska and had lost 30 pounds with Alli.  I have to lose over 40 pounds not to be overweight and 10 pounds not to be obese.  So I started the plan before she left for home.  I lost 4 pounds the first week and 1/2 pound the second.  I gained weight when my first husband got cancer and more after he died.  Then I got cancer and had to have chemotherapy which tacked on another 20 pounds.  I have been cancer free for six years and the weight is not coming off.  I want to do it this time.  My second husband is not on Alli...he has enough gas and I don't think it would be something he could live with....or me. Ha. Ha.

I live in Pennsylvania and I get very discouraged in the beginning.  I lost 30 pounds with Weight Watchers but that was a long time ago and I gained it all back plus another 20.  If I can stick with this for a month, then I know I can do it.  It is in the beginning when I need the encouragement.  I give up easy when the weight just doesn't move...even though I know if I persevere it would happen.

Re: over 50 and need to lose big time

Hi, I started on Alli July 2007 and finally found a plan that I could stick to. It seem so easy to change my eating habits (bad ones) and I enjoyed the change in me and my weight. I started at 242 and over the next 5 months I lost 31 lbs. I do not like to exercise and like you folks say, I am tired when I get home from work and just cannot make myself get on a regular exercise program.  However I made a mistake during the holidays (Thanksgiving & Xmas) thinking that puting my goal on hold and not taking my Alli , I would be OK.  This worked fine and I have managed to not gain the weight back but it has been like a yo-yo up and down. It has been SO hard getting myself back on Alli and getting back on track.   Today has been my turning point!!! I started back today and want to reach my goal of 150 by 2009.  As before I plan to start my daily log tomorrow, this was a good tool for me before.       I am 70 yrs old and work 40 to 50 hours a week and enjoy my job. I work with the mentally handicap.  I need a lot of prayers and encouragment.  Good luck to everone this week.  JJNC
