1800 Calories seems too much to me

    Hi,

According to the guides and my weight (over 200), I am supposed to eat 1800 calories a day with 60 grams of fat per day.  This seems like way too much to me - I think I would gain weight if I ate that much - although I would enjoy it!!!  I have tried diets in the past and that's what I am basing my opinion on. So I'm doing 1200-1400 a day with 30 grams of fat.

    Any thoughts on that?

    Hi Bocabanana,

Most diets start of too low in calories. I have a post on the beginning of the personal experiences board that will explain how 1800 calories can work for you. Here is the link to it http://community.myalli.com/forums/t/18013.aspx.

Take a look at that and let me know if you have any questions,

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

I know!  I thought the same thing in the beginning based on my past experiences of unhealthy eating plans and fad diets.   However, after I quit fighting the logic and really embraced this program and started trusting my body, I found that this plan works and is a healthy way to eat.  It isn't suggesting eating 1800 calories of junk calories nor is it suggesting 60 grams of unhealthy fats all in one sitting.  It does take some planning to get the proper amount of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. throughout the day but it is worth it.

    Best of luck!

I felt the same way...I started today and saw that I should be on the 1800 calorie diet, but I'm doing the 1400 calories instead.  It's just that much more I could be losing!

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

The reason so many people are just sure that 1200-1400 calories are best for them is that they have been on diets in the past and that is what they had to do.  BUT apparently the diet did not work and that is why they are here.

Depriving your body of fuel will get you no where in the big picture.  Healthy eating and establishing good habits will help you lose weight AND keep it off.  NO MORE DIETS, they don't work, that is why so many of us have been on countless diets and we will no longer go down that dead end road.

If your doctor told you to take a certain dose of medication, but in your past you took less, and all your friends too less what would you do?  I would think you would leave it up to the professionals.....

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

You think that you will lose more and faster, but for some reason that is just not how ali works.  I was trying to stay around 12 -1400 a day but also working out everyday and not losing maybe 1 pound or a half.  Then I started reading all these other messages and upped my fats and calories, and boom, 3 pounds, 5 pounds, just started coming off and now to a total of 20. You should trust the professionals, they made the pill, they know how it works, and they have the best advice on how to use it.  You can eat more when you are eating healthy, it doesn't say pick 1800 calories of junk up a day.  Use the nutrition log, it will help you a lot.

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

I am sorry to say, your missing the whole point how alli works...read the books, do what it says, and you'll lose...our bodies need fuel to function, and to be healthy, when you starve your body, it'll lose lean tissue, not fat. Please do what the alli books say to do, you will lose!

Started weight : 285 lbs. size :26/28 goal weight: 180 lbs. (if get lower...great, if not...will be happy) current weight, as of 6-11-08 : 184 lbs., size 14/16

Thanks Kendra, But can you tell me how I am missing the point. I am kinda lost here.  I am just starting the pills today, but I changed my eating habit on 07/14/08.

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

Interesting this is one of my questions, I find 1800 way to much for me and 60 grams of fat. I'm finding it really hard to have that much fat in my diet. It's going to be a challenge, but I understand the concept.

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

I am also on the 1800 / 60g of fat.  I just started the program yesterday.  My calorie intake yesterday was 1126 and my fat intake was about 10-15g.  I felt satisfied for the day, but will the alli pill not work for me if I don't take in the 1800/60g fat, or close to it?  I don't want to force feed myself by eating when I'm not hungry.  I also read in someone elses message that the pill only works on 5g of fat or more per meal.  Is that correct?

Re: 1800 Calories seems too much to me

I'm with you Melissa -- 1800 calories is WAY too much for me and I, too, would feel like I was forcing myself to eat when I'm not hungry -- everything the diets tell you not to do!

I, too, wonder if the pill will not work if I'm not getting the 30 grams of fat per day??
