    Re: McDonalds Egg McMuffin?

May I suggest, staying away from fast food as much as possible. Cooking at home help you get more involved in exactly what your eating.

Try Planning your breakfast at night,

Purchase a 6 pack of Thomas whole wheat english muffins, Boil your eggs at night.

Get you some low fat cheese.

Quickly toast the muffin, cut open your eggs using the white only..

    throw out the yolk (yellow).

Microwave your eggs white with low fat cheese for 30 seconds or less

Slap the eggs and cheese on top of your muffin (awesome).

this process takes less than 5 minutes...wrap it in a napkin or something and eat it in the car if you have to.

    Good luck

    Re: McDonalds Egg McMuffin?

thank you for the tip on the english muffin's.  I was eating those thinking it was a better choice.  One morning my daughter was reading the wrapper and found that it has twenty two grams of fat.  I also choke at that moment.  I am a manager at Burger King, and most of my day is spent at work.  10 hours shifts, does not give you a lot of ground of food to eat there.  So If i don't pack anything.  I don't eat until I get home.  Let me tell some days I am eating Breakfast at 3 in the after noon.  Back to the egg mcmuffin  I started eating those because I believed someone who told me it was 14 grams of fat.  It was over when my daughter told me otherwise,

    Re: McDonalds Egg McMuffin?

It's fine to have breakfast for lunch or dinner; and vice versa.  What's important is to have the recommended amount of calories and fat for YOUR alli level and to have one or two snacks throughout the "day" -- whatever hours that might be

Just for the record the Egg McMuffin has 300 calories and 12 grams of fat (see www.mcdonalds.com/app_controller.nutrition.index1.html) for the nutrition info on all McD's items.  It also has 820 milligrams of sodium so folks should keep their sodium light for the rest of the day when they have this breakfast.  The recommended amount of sodium is 2,300 milligrams - or less - per day - and too much sodium causes people to retain water.  That hides a weight loss.

Whether it's BK, McD's or others, these restaurant items can be part of the alli Program.  Just know what the numbers are and work them in accordingly.

Finally, Dunkin' D's announced this morning they're launching a new line of LF breakfast items next month.  So keep you eye open for that -- and check the sodium too.

    I hope this helps.

I think that it is important to note that when we are looking at the nutritional information that is posted for restaurant items (such as McDonald's Egg McMuffin's) those numbers are based on how items should "ideally" be prepared. The reality is that the folks making the food we eat when we go out may not be as careful with the amount of oil being used, butter being tossed on the griddle, or mayo being spread on. Eating out is definitely convenient but you can never really know what you are going to get or the real calorie and fat count of what you will be eating. I think this is especially true of fast food places that frequently use oil and butter during food prep.

    Re: McDonalds Egg McMuffin?

This is my first week with the program and I tried your recipe this morning.  It was so yummy that I didn't even miss all the extra fat and grease that is usually dripping off the real thing.  I put it all together this morning and wrapped it up.  When I got to work, I just put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds to melt the cheese a little and mmm...it was so good.  I will definitely be making this again.  Thanks for the great tips!!
