LindaDeGraw:
I had the TE as a result of a snack (piece of cake) I ate between meals, so I immediately stopped the pills for the day afterward to give my body a chance to adjust. I continued to have TE for the entire next day! Now I'm afraid to go back on the pill even though I ate well yesterday. Think I'll give my body one more day to adjust to low fat eating before I take another pill.
No offense to anybody on here, really, because I am in the same boat as everyone else, but didn't you read all the information that comes with your alli? It can stay in your system for up to 48 hours, so if you eat something high in fat and don't take a pill at that time, but took one a few hours ago, you're probably going to have TEs.
Here's what I did: about a week and a half after starting alli, I had a wedding to go to, I knew that the food was all going to be catered and there probably wasn't going to be a lot of good food choices. I stopped taking the alli 48 hrs. before I was going to eat there, and then started the alli again 48 hours later. I had no treatment effects. I did gain 2 pounds that weekend, but then lost that and another pound that week. Hopefully this helps people, and stops spreading the myth that you can just not take the alli for 1 meal and have no effects.
The other thing that I wanted to point out is that if you go above your 30% fat per meal, you can also get TEs. The one time that I had an "icky" moment, I was within my calories and my fat grams, but at about 32% fat. It wasn't too bad (and luckily I was at home) but definitely something I wouldn't want to repeat. And so far, I haven't had any other treatment effects, and am down 10 lbs. in 4 weeks. (yay!)
So everybody keep at it, good luck to you all!
