    Event Training - half marathon?

Since starting the program i've really uped my fitness activity. A huge motivator for me is signing up for events, paticually running events such as 5k's. I've done a few 5k's now, and the last one I did it was by far the easiest, thanks to all my practicing and this program! I've just signed up for a half marathon (13.1 miles) in June. It will be my first one, i'm nervous and excited. My goal is to finish and not be last, so now I really need to build my miles. Does anyone else sign up for events as motivators to get thier butts into gear for practing? It seemed to work for me on the 5k's so i'm hoping it will work for this one as well!

Re: Event Training - half marathon?

    Hi there!

Yes, I do the same.  My next 5k is April 26th.  I would like this to be the first year that I didn't have to walk any.  I also do a 7 miles race in July, I believe this years date is July 26.  I have completed the Bix 5 times now and my first time my goal was to just finish.  In September there is a half-marathon in the same area as the Bix 7 and I considered doing it last year, but I stopped on my regular training.  I have been toying with the idea of doing it this year so that I can progress my training from one event to the other.

There are days when my motivation lacks, so I would love to have something going here.

I'm doing the Mini in May.  It's my first organized run.  I really started walking in Aug. and doing the Mini has been my motivation to keep it up.

Re: Event Training - half marathon?

I'm doing a 4 mile run with my husband's work in April.  I hope to do a marathon next summer but I haven't signed up for anything yet.  I haven't done any organized running up to this point.  The four mile run will be my first.

Why do you say O Jacob and complain O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, my cause is disregarded by my God?" Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is an everlasting GOD, the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired and weary and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:27-31 SW: 183 CW:158 GW: 135-140 final goal: to look good in a bikini, to be strong, firm, and healthy, to be a good example to my children and patients, to be at peace with food - to eat when hungry and stop when satisfied and to have my mind full with other things other than food when its not time to eat. Eventually I want to live thin naturally and not have it be a struggle.

Re: Event Training - half marathon?

Which event are you doing? I am doing the Rock-n-roll marathon in San Diego on June 1st! My goal is only to finish before the cutoff time!! I don't care if I am dead last--I just want to know I can go the distance.  I am a slow and steady kinda person, so finishing the full race doesn't seem as daunting as having a time limit! What training program are you using to prepare? I am using marathon training for dummies.

Re: Event Training - half marathon?

    hi,

i am the same way. if i sign up for something, then i'm dedicated. i'm also doing my first half marathon in august. my hubby's a marathon addict, and i'd love to do one with him one day. last year i lost 30 lbs. just by training for a 5K, so i'm back on now. it's just so frustrating to have to start all over. but i'm up to a 5K distnace now, so i'm hopeful. good luck on your training! and congrats on your easy 5K.
