temptation got the best of me

i feel so guilty about what I ate yesterday and this morning. For lunch yesterday,  a friend of mine brought me a whitefish salad with bagels for lunch. I didn't know how many calories where in the bagel let alone the whitefish salad. It was sooooo good!!! I didn't have any treatment affects (not yet) but I know I probably will. Then for dinner my mother bbq some hamburgers and porkchops and ribs. She made the potato salad with greens and cornbread. I looked in the refrigerator and there were more healthier food choices that I could have picked, but I couldn't . I just couldn't resist. I don't know what to do when it comes to the cravings. Before then, I didn't have a burger in weeks let alone the potatoe salad or cornbread. So last night I went to the grocery store bought oatmeal, cereal and fruit and sandwhiches with low fat chips and water to get me through the week. I was so excited and felt as though I could make amends for yesterday and the night before. ( I had the bbq on sunday, and ate the leftovers on monday) I get to work this morning anticipating my cereal, when I see the whitefish in the employees refrigerator with 1/2 a bagel. I gave in to the cravings. I feel like a failure. I feel like I'm backsliding. I was losing weight, feeling good, exercising.  I don't know what to do!!! HELP!!!

Re: temptation got the best of me

I totally understand, i've been beating myself up today for everything that I put into my body this weekend. I've been doing so well on the alli plan, but sat and sun I just binged. I had pizza I had  a latin style roast pork and rice, and god help me-chocolate. I bought a bag and just kept eating it. Oh, and we went to Hardees for breakfast. I've lost about 15 lbs and I have alot more to lose, I don't want to mess up now. I feel like I just kinda lost control this weekend, but I'm back on track now, I went grocery shopping for my healthy, good food and I'm not gonna let a few slip ups throw me off for good. Sometimes you do have to treat yourself, and let yourself have a guilt free naughty food. Just don't let it throw you off.

Re: temptation got the best of me

the first thing i would say is lose the guilt ... that will only make you feel worst and in turn eat more and make more wrong choices hey we all are human and will make mistakes it does not help with the self-abuse it happen so now go to your journal and write what you had how much and keep it honest i don't know which step you are on but one week deal's with craving and how to make the best choices (don't know if they let us share our steps ) but there is not one person that has not been where you were .hey today is my birthday and i might just find myself there (lol hope not ) but who knows we are human so i say to you ... it happen, it over. look for tips on how to not give in to temptation and if you are in a place when you know you are going to be temped always have a game plan as to what you will do if things come flying your way ie my weakness is cookies and if I'm some where and some one has out cookies i always keep in my purse the 100 cal snack  they are a big help when other are having a snack. someone on here gave a really good idea make your own snacks ahead of time  using the lil baggies and that way you already know the cal/fat and you cant go over

    be encouraged

Re: temptation got the best of me

I'm going on week three, and I remember reading about cravings ( I believe that was in week two) but it was waaaayyyy harder than I thought it would be. You're right, I just need to refocus. I guess I'm doing ok, because I've been wanting McDonalds, but I've been a good girl and have resisted ( I love Mc D's). Happy Birthday to you!! Be careful with that birthday cake. What where some of the steps that you took to resist the cravings, any advice will be good advice. Thank you for offering support, I really needed it. Take care and once again have a wonderful birthday.

Re: temptation got the best of me

This always happens to me after I've lost a significant amount of weight for that week. I think it's probably my head telling me "hey, you've been good, go for it". The one thing I've found that helps me the most is picturing my weigh-in the next morning. (I know we shouldn't weigh daily, but I do, it helps me know what works and what doesn't.) I know if I get on that scale and I've gained even a pound, that day, I'll start to get back on track.

Re: temptation got the best of me

thank you kai the birthday was wonderful and i did have a slice of my cake but i limited it to just one small slice ( really it was small my fingers are not crossed) and i sent the rest home with my guess. but kai if it mcdonald you crave the best thing to do is go there... now say its the big mc you are craving ask them to put it in a reg. cheese buger bun and hold one of the burgers ask for the sauce in a cup to the side dont know the fat of cal for this but im sure its less and it will taste the same

same thing with a quaterpounder reg bun or just eat it with the bottom of the bun , if you get the fries eat about 7or 8 put the rest in the trash .

and i alway take my alli just in case i have went over my fat gm

dont know if this will work for everyone but this is one way i deal with craving

i'm the type of person if i feel deprived and i get it in my mind i must have i do better with getting that thing and just doing a small amount verses not having at all .

Re: temptation got the best of me

Don't beat yourself up!!  We have all given into temptation a time or too.  After all we are human!!  The more impressive thing is that you realized your mistake and thought immediately to correct it by going out and buying healthier foods.

I fell into temptaion today also. I went to the hairdresser and realized I needed change, so into the corner store I went.  Well, I had to break a ten but reallydidn't need anything.  There was this bag of Cheetos cheese curls that got the best of me.  No not the personal size eitehr.  The big $1.49 cent bag (10g fat per serving 6 servings in a  bag).  before you ask YES I ate the whole bag!!  Not in one sitting but in ONE day!!  SO I backslid today also.  I did however make a promise to eat better tomorrow.  I like you made a trip to the market earlier today (actually before the bag of Cheetos) adn bought lots of healthy food.  I did however buy a pork shoulder to make chopped bbq this weekedn though.  I will only have the rec serving with a sald and whole wheta pasta.

So my point is, we realize when we go wrong and vow to do better.  Work out harder this weekend, work off those pounds  you can do it!!

Re: temptation got the best of me

First of all Im new to the Alli forum so Hello all!! Yes this is normal, we as people are not perfect. When this happens to me, I always say you can get back on track not to worry. Unfortunately I always gain something from temptation gettin to me, but I go back on track and lose the weight afterwards. I don't condone this behavior as something persistent, but sometimes we just have to have something after a few days of low carbs and low portions of food. Im learning as I go along that I have to boost my will-power to stay focused on loosing the weight consistenly and this will hopefully keep me grounded.

Re: temptation got the best of me

    Hi Stephanie,

As I read your email, it reminded me so much of myself. I'm glad to know that I am not alone. Some days I do better than others. I have a four year old son, so he'll have candy sometimes or Mc Donalds. I looove mc donalds, but like I said, I am getting better, so I may take one or two fries from him and a bite of his sandwhich or if he has nuggets, I may take one of his chicken nuggets. It deters me from buying something from there and it helps with my cravings. I definitely will try to work out harder this weekend, thank you for emailing me!!

Re: temptation got the best of me

I tried your idea about the Mc Donalds and it has really helped. If I take my son, instead of me getting something, I may take a bite of his sandwhich to get a taste ( that usually satisfies me and maybe 2-6 of his french fries) I may buy him the  6 piece nuggets and I'll just eat one, and it makes me feel better. I love your philosphy about just doing a samll amount versus not having none at all. I'm able to eat healthy yet satisfy my cravings at the same time.

    Thank you,

    Kai

Re: temptation got the best of me

    Hi Coowee,

I can't wait until I can say I've lost 20 lbs, so first of all Congrats to you for that accomplishment.  What is your goal?  How much more are you trying to lose?  Perhaps you  may need to adjust your caloric intake. What is your caloric intake now?  Again maybe you need to adjust it or maybe "bump" up your activity.  I would also suggest posting this question to perhaps one of the nutrition as well as the physical activity moderator on this site.  They often have good ideas and tips.  They might be able to help you out.  When you say you go back and forth 3-5 pounds do you mean past the 20 lb or back to say 16 lb weight loss?
