    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Actually, Kalena,

In reading your past posts, I gathered that you are one of those unhappy individuals who like to be the bearer of bad news, and the rude police. You jump threads, making yourself stand out for whatever gratification it gives you, usually at someone else's expense.

This type personality leaps out at others because of their own dissatisfaction and is very difficult to reason with.

In addition, I saw that you are already having difficulty since the onset of your journey. Others who may read this thread are perfectly capable of gleaning from it, or leaving it, altogether. My intention is to share what I have learned, and it is the duty of each person to do their own research, never relying on another's "facts" alone.

    Kalena62:

This information goes against what alli and Betty say about using this product and weight-loss. I'd like to hear Betty's opinion on this.

    Alli start 12/30/07

    SW 222 lbs - CW 164.5 lbs

    I've lost 57.5 lbs!

    I HIT NORMAL BMI 24.9 on 8/10/08!

    (I was 32.8 Obese!)

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Hi Everyone,
I would like to ask that everyone be careful about any personal attacks on here. I do not see anything wrong with what Kalena asked. I have made it very clear that a balanced diet, with 30% of the calories from fat, is what you need to be following on this plan. This post is giving information that contradicts that with no research to support it so I was glad to see someone questioning if this is accurate. Kalena asked an expert for their opinion, knowing that I am here for that reason. Kalena did not say anything against the person who posted this or the post itself so going after Kalena's previous posts was not necessary. People come on here knowing that experts are around to answer questions that come up. Everyone needs to feel safe enough to ask whatever they need to. I know how hard you are all working and how you want to share what works for you. Please allow others to ask questions and share their opinions on what is posted. I will watch for anything that is inappropriate and take care of it.

If there are any other questions about this please let me know,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

Then please delete the whole thread.

In all honesty, Betty. In the infancy of my journey, I asked questions that went unanswered. This is why I have taken on learning on my own, and sharing.

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Betty, question.

    What is your take.

Does where your fat gets stored on one's body have an impact on the potential for certain diseases, like heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis?

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Rikki,

I wholely believe that where body fat is stored does impact potential diseases in a person. My question was specific...it was about the apple shape only taking 15% fats when Betty has made it clear that we should be getting more fats from foods per meal to obtain the balanced diet that alli promotes.

I never attacked you, I would never attack you or anybody else. I am not the type of person you claim I am. That is the problem here. You attacked me because you wrongly thought I was attacking your post or you. That is incorrect. I posted in your good-bye thread not to go. I posted that before reading this one but my sentiments still stand. Don't go. You are welcome here and you are wanted here. Just the same as I am. I will read threads. I will respond to threads and as for my difficulties with my journey...its been discovered that my scale is faulty. It is currently weighing in as an extra 8 lbs so its a very good chance I lost even more weight than I thought to begin with. I guess that's what I get for buying a $4 scale.

I have no malice in me. I have never made one post even hinting at malice. I do not understand where you got that idea from. I also am not an attention-getter. I have plenty of attention in my life, all postiive attention at that. If I can offer information that could benefit others, I will. If I choose to tell the world my personal business and the reasons why I am struggling with certain things, I will. It is my choice. You can think of me however you want, that is your choice. I know better and I am confident enough in myself to know I don't need yours or anybody else's approval.

Now, I am going to give you my advice. You can take it or leave it. Just because you do not get along with what everybody says on here and just because you were asked not to attack someone on here does not mean you are not welcome or wanted. Imagine how boring life would be if we all felt, looked, acted and were the same! You and I can agree to disagree and we can both still enjoy this site and the benefits of it. Hopefully you will calm down enough to realize that you will sabotage yourself by your leaving. It won't hurt me. It will only hurt you. Don't hurt yourself. Stay and continue being part of this community.

    Kalena

PS Please take the time to re-read one of your quotes in your signature. Be persistent and don't get discouraged. =)

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Rikki:

Please listen to what Kalena is saying and stay here with us.  We know you only meant to be helpful when you posted the articles about body shape and diet, which, by the way, are very interesting.  However, there are literally thousands of diet plans floatiing around, and we should choose one that we feel will work for us and stick to it as closely as we can.  If we start modifying the plan we have chosen to follow, the results might not be as good as we hope for.  Most of us want to give Alli and chance to work as it is designed to work.  If anyone chooses to do something different, or incorporate other things into this plan, they have a right to do that.  I know that your intentions were good, and I thank you sincerely for wanting to be helpful.  There are hundreds of people on Alli, and we are all different.  What works for one might not work for another.  The important thing is that we all stick together and support one another.  I want you to be successul, no matter what you choose to incorporate into your lifestyle change.  Don't let a minor misunderstanding drive you away.  We can't all think alike but we can all be supportive of one another.  Please don't think that anyone wants you to leave.  The struggle with weight is a common thread that binds us all together.  You are as welcome here as anyone.  We are not all cut from the same mold.  We are individuals with vastly different backgrounds, personalities, and values.  But we are all in this struggle together and need the strengths and insights that each person brings to the boards.

    Liz

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

I haven't done any measuring yet - but have the sparkpeople site up and looking at it (I needed to get my points in today anyway).  I wonder if I can be a mixture of fruit?  2 upside down pears with an apple in the middle ???

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Miss_Rikki:

    Apple Tips:

    1. Eat Fiber-Filled Foods. They slow digestion of sugars, lower insulin and cholesterol levels and lower risk of heart disease and diabetes.

    2. Do Aerobic Exercise. Thirty minutes daily is the easiest way to lose l fat.

    3. Test Blood Sugar & Blood Fats. If these tests are abnormal or even borderline, apples should be concerned and look into ways to remedy a possible problem.

I'm an apple !!!!!!!!!!!  Wonder if I'm a Granny Smith - probably as I think I'm more tart than sweet :)

I already test my blood sugar - lowest it's been since I was diagnosed (it was 550 that day) now it's running around 125 :)  That's progress for me !!!

Aerobic exercise ... like jumping jacks?  Do people really know what jumping jacks can do for a woman that's big busted (and has a big tummy).  #1 - it hurts have all that bouncing going on  .. #2 it's NOT a pretty site #3 ... what do you hold down, your boobs or your tummy ?  Decisions - decisions.  and we WON'T discuss the black eyes that can occur with said bouncing.

Fiber filled foods - I'll have to look into those.

    Re: WHAT SHAPE ARE YOU?

    Hi Miss_Rikki,

I think that it's great that you are trying to share information that you find with others. If there is something that anyone posts that is incorrect I will address it. My response was to help everyone see that things can be taken the wrong way on here and that this is one of the limitations to this form of communication. I know what a great member you are on here and figured that you misunderstood what was being said.

I am so sorry to hear that you had questions that went unanswered. If they were on my boards please, please do not hesitate to keep posting the question and let me know that it has gone unanswered. I read every post on here and do everything that I can to answer every question that has not received an appropriate answer. Every one of you deserves to have your questions answered and has the right to share your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions. I would just like to make sure that no one feels judged or unwelcome. This would all be much different if we were sitting together in a room talking this all through.

Now I want to answer the question that you just asked me. Yes, there is absolutely evidence that where you carry your weight will impact your health risks. Here is the link to this information http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/e_txtbk/txgd/4142.htm. You can use the foods that you posted about, but do need to reach your recommended 30% of your calories from fat for this plan.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD
