    Eating Mexican Out

Hi all I have a question I think I know the answer but I'm going to ask anyway.

My husband and I ate at our favorite Mexican restaurant last week. I ordered 2 soft steak tacos

no cheese, no guacamole ,no beans ,no sour cream. I had an order of rice and only ate half..I know when they cook they don't watch the amt of oil they use to cook in...The meat was very lean I checked it out before I ate it... I did have about a half doz chips and that is good for me cause usually I eat a whole basket...But I had treatment effects for 2 days...Should I just stay away from Mexican food or just not take the pill when I have it...I still lost 2 lbs this week and i don't really want to stop eating the things I like.. just cutting back on portion size has helped a great deal and I'm not feeling so deprived....

    Re: Eating Mexican Out

Hi goodgal22,  I eat a lot of Mexican food and have not had any problems yet.  What you ate doesn't sound all that bad.  Believe me because I eat stuff like encheladas.  If you are not used to eating Mexican food on a regular basis that might have been the problem.  I can't see you having the treatment effects for 2 days from it though.  To be certain that it was the food that upset your stomach, you should go eat it again.  I have found that I can eat certain foods one day and it not bother me, then eat it again on another day and I feel kind of funky.  Good luck with your weight loss and don't give up on the foods you like, try making them at home yourself to help keep the fat content down.  Barb

    Re: Eating Mexican Out

Hello, I love Mexican food and have a favorite place to eat at as well. However, I haven't had any treatment effects afterwards. I'm guessing the tortilla chips may have done it for you since they carry a large amounts of fat. Sometimes even a small amount of something you haven't had in a while will cause effects, especially if there is a higher fat content.

I don't eat the chips and any dish I like that has a corn shell, I ask to substitute with a flour shell. If you have the starter pack, check the "Healthy Eating Guide" or "Companion Guide" for eating out suggestions. There is a section in both books on Mexican foods.

Good luck and congratulations on continued success!

LaDonte',  I don't know if you know this or not, but the corn tortillas have less fat and calories than the flour.  It is very true.  If you are worried about hard shell tacos, you can alway get the soft corn tortillas.  They are way more healthier than flour.   Barb

    Re: Eating Mexican Out

What I like to do when I'm going to eat out is Google the nutrional facts for the foods that I think I might eat.  There are a few sites like CalorieKing where you enter the food and they come up with a few restuarant options with that food type.  I look at a few of them to estimate what kind of fat and calories the food I might eat will have.  It's helped me out tons.  I also agree I can't just give up totally the foods I love, so I just eat them in moderation.  I look for low fat or fat free chips and snacks at the store and that helps with the cravings.
