    Stopped losing weight!

I have been taking Alli for about 7 weeks. In the first 5 weeks, I lost 15 pounds. I was estatic! Unfortunately, I haven't lost any weight since, and in fact, my weight is starting to creep up again. Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get back on track again?

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I don't know how to stop it, but once you find out I want to know.  I have been on this since the beginning of January.  I lost 20 pounds in the first 5 weeks, and have been stuck ever since.  I have read and read and read.  This week I have decided to change up my excercise and drop to the lower cal /  fat program and see if this helps me.  I 'll let you know if the weight starts dropping again.

Life happens, you just gotta keep moving ahead!

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I think losing weight on this program is random; I checked the scale this morning and I had lost two pounds overnight - don't know why or how!  I just hope I keep on losing!

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I have been on alli since 01/24/08 and only lost 9 pounds. It seems that number could be better. I too will try different exercise and see if that helps.

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

Many factors can attribute a weight plateau - Menstrual cycles, high sodium intake, medications, etc.  Sometimes, even if you follow a diet plan perfectly well there are moments when your body plateaus and that is OK.  Even when the scale does not show progress, you should not feel discouraged.  Chances are that you are making progress in many other ways.
    • You are eating healthy and that is positive
    • Maybe you are feeling more energetic
    • Maybe your clothes are fitting better
    • Maybe your cholesterol level is lowering
If you stay the course you will continue to drop pounds.  You can also help move from plateau if you increase your physical activity.  Incorporate resistance exercises to your routine or cut a snack or about 100 to 200 calories from your meal plan (as long as you are not going to be very hungry in between meals).  Most importantly, stay on track.

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

What are resistance exercises? I do sit-ups almost every night (minimum 50), and I also do some yoga exercises to tone up my arms. What other exercises would be good?

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

Resistance exercises are performed with weights on repetition sets.  They are wonderful, especially while trying to lose weight to avoid muscle mass loss and help speed up your metabolism.  You can do this resistance weight training with soup cans, water bottles or small weights even while watching TV.  Send this question to the exercise expert in this message board and they should be able to provide you with a more detail routine.

    Hope this helps,

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I have been taking Alli since July 2007 and have lost 25 pounds.  Seems like a long time to lose so little but I'm happier and healthier.  Then, last month my weight loss just stopped. Zip, nada, zilch!  No movement on the scale.  I became obsessed with my food log, increased my workout, even adding more resistance exercise and here it is Mar 25 and still not one pound gone.  Actually, two pounds found there way back to me.

I don't know what else to do?  Fortunately, I'm still taking Alli, still exercising and following the recommended calorie intake and plan.  Help....

Continue your routine and new eating habits.  This journey is going to take some time,...but remember that all the benefits of losing weight are not only at the scale....your overall health is improving day by day.  Hang in there.

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I've been using Alli since 1 Mar.  I lost 2 lbs in the first 2 wks, and then I gained a pound ea week since then.  I'm 5'5", 53 yo, I'm eating 1600 cals and walked nearly everyday at moderate pace for 30-60 mins.  I'm tracking all my cals and nutrients using the Nutrition Log.  I've had TE and I'm constipated alternatively .  I'm taking Alli before every meal, sometimes after a meal when I've forgotten to take it beforehand.  I'm drinking my water.  I take synthroid for hypothyroidism in the morning.  WHAT GIVES HERE?? It's now 4 Apr and I see no progress. I'm beginning to think there's no hope for me.  I've done Weight Watchers and my weight didn't budge.  I've done my own thing by consuming 1200 cals/day and that didn't make my weight budge either.  If I eat without regard to calorie/nutrition consumption, my weight doesn't budge then either.  My body just seems to like where it is.  I'm at my heaviest now.  With each yr that passes, I gain another 4 lbs.  I feel like the only way to lose this weight is to starve myself and work out like a maniac everyday, and then maybe I'll lose a couple of lbs if I'm lucky.

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

...just to clarify, I was on Weight Watchers a few times over the past 10 years, but not while I was on Alli, and I was on the 1200 cal/day diet prior to starting Alli.  Didn't mean to be confusing.

    Re: Stopped losing weight!

I will encourage you to increase your physical activity.  In order to lose weight you need to kick the body into gear by going deeper.  With your doctors permission, try to go for a 1 hour walk on most days.  Also, you need to start moving those muscles a little harder with resistance exercises - lift water bottles or soup cans while watching TV, do squats or push ups (if you can) in between commercials.  Remember that as we get a little older our metabolism slows down, which means you need to eat less than the previous year or increase your physical activity.  Hope this makes sense...
