Yuck! I don't like member badges....

I'm really sorry if I'm offending those members that have received a badge.  I just think that badges only foster answers that not meaningful or helpful to those asking questions about their weight loss experiences with Alli.  I'm sure there are members that really want to help others that using Alli......and those that try to answer every question so that they can obtain a badge.   How about rewarding members that have lost 20 pounds, 30 pounds, 40 pounds, 50 pounds, etc., with badges.  I would love to ask questions of those members that are doing really great on the program.  I'm sure those members have a lot of helpful advise that they can pass on to me.

Re: Yuck! I don't like member badges....

Suzee.....I think I have a badge and I am not offended.  I really did not even know the badges existed....maybe they are new.  I did not want the badge ot try to get the badge.  I guess it just happened because I posted a lot.  Most of my postings were probably questions and certainly no real answers.

Is it possible that under the section "Success Stories", there would be posters who have some useful info?  I know I do not look for badges when I decide what posts to read....mainly because I have a badge and know that I don't know anything.  Except.....this has worked for me.

The badges are the medals under your name. They are aquired by the number of posts you have on the message boards.

Hey Alli3 - when did the "medals" change?  Yesterday I was Gold today Im Platinum - I don't think I have enough messages to be at the top - seems like a glitch ?

I have to agree that I preferred seeing the # of posts I/we had instead of an Olympic medal :)

Re: Yuck! I don't like member badges....

Okay, I guess I'm going to dig my own grave by saying this.....my point is I can get a copper metal under my name if I post a simple "hi" to every alli member on the message board.  If this type of recognition is to generate more people posting messages......then I guess metals/badges will work.  I just think that the goal of the message board is to get and give useful information about the Alli program, support one another and inspire others.

I really love the Alli program and what it has done for me.  I have never had so much success with weight loss than I have with Alli.....even though I'm currently having a difficult time losing weight.  Sometimes, I sound like a walking commercial for Alli!   Family members roll their eyes when I get on the topic of Alli.....but they know it works from my weight loss since August.

Maybe, I'm taking the badges/metal recognition a little too serious.  Yet, when anything becomes competitive, I back off or lose interest.  Losing weight is a serious matter for me.....because it's about my health.  I really want to be successful with the Alli program. I also want to get down to a normal weight.  I want this to be the last time in my life that I'm considered obese!   Each day and each month that goes by, I feel that I am making weight loss  permanent and a lifestyle.  I would like to lose a total of 75 pounds.  I'm almost halfway to my goal weight and yet, I have been struggling.  When I first started Alli, weight loss was  a breeze.  Now I'm really battling the bulge and my thoughts of old food habits.....thankfully Alli treatments exist....to keep from eating what I shouldn't eat!  (Isn't it funny that some newbies are so fearful of Alli treatments and I'm so grateful that there is a consequence to eating foods high in fat!) Oh well...

Getting back to badges/metals.....can someone tell me why they are given?

Re: Yuck! I don't like member badges....

    1suzee,

The idea of the badges were not to inspire any sort of competition. And yes, while you theoretically could post "hi" to every person on the message boards to earn a badge, realistically that should not happen (and if it does, that seems kind of childish, no?)

The point of the badges is to show how active a person is within the message board. The idea is that those who are new to the boards will see these badges and know that that person is experienced and active on the message board, and can potentially be a source of support, inspiration, or simply a person to chat with.

Congratulations on your current success, and best wishes for your continued success.

Re: Yuck! I don't like member badges....

    Alliadmin3,

Please let me get one thing straight....I would never post a "hi" to everyone to get a badge.  Hopefully, answers to questions on the message board do not become diluted in a quest to get a badge.  Please consider giving recognition to those alli members that have done well on the program.  I'm fascinated about learning more about their weight loss and tips that they can share with the rest of us.

Re: Yuck! I don't like member badges....

    Suzee,

    I know you wouldn't. :)

We are actually working on some new badges for the community that will be based more on success rather than the number of posts.
