Hi dawn3157, Thank you for writing and welcome to alli! You are not alone in the battle to lose that fat around the abdominal area after childbirth! Unfortunately, spot reducing isn't possible....but spot toning is! Alli promotes a healthy lifestyle, consisting of a low-fat, nutrient-dense diet, and exercise! The combination of cardio (aerobic) exercise and strength training is the very best way to maximize your fat burning potential, leading to less overall body fat, more lean muscle, and a more toned body! Ideally, you should be working out on most days of the week, for 30-60+ minutes per session! Do your best to perform cardio, such as walking, swimming, jogging, hiking, biking or DVD's such as Taebo or kickboxing! If you are new to exercising and cannot perform a long, continuous bout, break it up into smaller sessions of 10 minutes or so throughout the course of one day to accumulate 30+ minutes! Strength training is crucial to the long-term success of any weight loss program! By maintaining/increasing lean muscle mass while losing weight, you will be become more metabolically efficient because muscle requires more energy to function than fat.....meaning that the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn all throughout the day..even at rest! The alli website has very helpful animated demos on the website for you to view. Go to "my activity" and click on "my strength training log" to see them! Most of these can be done right at home with a few inexpensive tools, such as dumbbells, exercise tubing, and a Fitball! Perform strength training 2-3 times per week for about 25 min per session. Another very effective form of exercise would be training your core muscles (lower back and abs!) By strengthening/conditioning your core muscles, you will definitely see a difference in the appearance of your abs. Exercises such as pilates, yoga, and utilizing the Fitball are great for the abs/back. Again, the combination of cardio (burning lots of calories!) and strength training (maintaining/increasing lean muscle and toning) will make a marked difference in your belly area. Remember, as well, that the diet is part of the whole picture as well! Give your body time to respond and take each day as a new opportunity to improve and change! In lieu of surgery, these 3 things are your best option! True success is measured one good decision at a time and is measured not by perfection, but by progress! Best in fitness, Kelli

Re: getting that baby tummy gone.

Hey Dawn3157,  I too have had two kids and have that same problem.  I have been on the Alli program for 23 days now and I have lost 9 pounds.  I can now see my "Hippo Pouch" starting to melt!!  I stick to my calories and fat and I use my Gazelle twice a day for 30 min 5 days a week.  I throw in crunchs and side bends Mon/Wed/Fri.  It is working for me.  Try not to get discourged.  This stubborn "Hippo Pouch" will begin to melt and boy will it put a huge smile on your face!  I have a long way to go before it is flat, but this little bit sure feels and looks good.

    Rebecca

P.S.  I have tried to get rid of this for five years now.  Nothing worked.  Now in just three weeks on Alli and being consistant with my exercise I am seeing a huge improvement!  Good Luck!

Re: getting that baby tummy gone.

    Hi Rebecca,

Congratulations on your 9 pound weight loss! Isn't it so motivating when you see results from all your hard work? It is not always going to be easy, there will be ups and downs from time to time, but the key is to be consistent. From being consistent for three weeks you are already seeing huge improvements and that's great! Keep up the good work, as you already know, you can achieve your goals!

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Re: getting that baby tummy gone.

    Paul,

I have three children and am about 40 lbs over my comfortable weight. I am 5' 7", 30 years old, current weight is 170.5 lbs, long term goal weight is 130 lbs. My youngest is 6 months old. I began Alli yesterday. I have been exercising and trying to eat better and smaller portions for about four weeks now. I have noticed some change in the way my clothes fit, but haven't lost much weight.

I have lots of loose areas including my belly and breasts from carrying babies and breastfeeding.

I have just worked my way up to doing my Fluidity Bar workout (intense strength training using many muscles or all at the same time, like ballet dancers use) three times a week, the workout is exactly 28 minutes and I do a twenty minute workout on my Air Climber. With the Air Climber, I barely make it to the end (really started this last week). Next week I will be getting a stationary "fan" bike (you know, those that have the massive fan in the front that is shaped like a wheel and you push the moving handle bars with your arms).

Can you help me figure out using those three things how I can best reach my goal of being fit. Weight is an issue, but being fit and trim is more important to me than the scale. I know that reaching my fit level will affect the scale too. I just want to know what combination would be best for me to rid of my problem areas.

    Thanks,
    Kari

Re: getting that baby tummy gone.

Hi wingsofpeace, Thanks for writing and welcome to alli! It sounds like you are off to a great start! With the help of alli, a healthy, low-fat diet, and regular cardiovascular & strength training exercise, you should see positive results! To produce the best results and maximize your caloric/fat burning potential, it is crucial that you build a weekly exercise program that incorporates both cardio and strength training (ST). Ideally, you should exercise on most days of the week for 30-60+ minutes. Try to get in cardio, such as your Air Climber and fan bike, as well as walking, swimming, kickboxing, etc., 3-5 times per week. To increase your fitness level, gradually increase the duration and intensity (how hard you are exercising) as you go along each week. ST should be performed 2-3 times per week for 25-35 minutes each session. This is where the Fluidity Bar will be very effective. The alli website also provides helpful animated demos for you to view. By going to "my activity" and clicking on "my strength training log" you'll be able see how to perform exercises for a full-body workout. Most of these can be performed right at home with a few inexpensive tools, such as light-to-moderately heavy dumbbells (3,5,8,10 lb weights), a FitBall and exercise tubes. You are right in that as you become more healthy and fit, the scale will reflect the positive changes you're making! Best in luck! Stay consistent and work hard! Kelli
