I just wanted to check and see if what I am doing is right. I plan my own meals - do I just count my calories and fat and not go over my required amount??? or do I follow my calories and fat and make sure I get the required amount from each food group each meal. Any suggestions anyone can offer would be great.
It's fine to plan your own meals. If you use the Sample Menus for your level it will be a nice pattern to follow and will help get in a variety of healthy foods. Just use similar foods and you'll be pretty close to the amount of calories and fat your need.
If you like Exchanges, the chart on p.18 of the Healthy Eating Guide will show you how many servings from each of the food groups to have at each calorie leve.
