Does anyone else have a partner who thinks their crazy for trying to loose weight?

So i live with my boyfriend and we are not exactly the typical couple. I am short (5'3) and chubby and he is 6'0 with an almost perfect body (abs... the works) anyways i've been trying to loose weight but he keeps so much junk food in the house.... Doritos, brownies, ice cream, TONS of pizza which he can eat all he wants of and not gain an ounce of weight. This morning i was measuring my cereal and milk out for breakfast ( trying to get the right serving) and he just looks at me like i am absolutely crazy? He knows i am trying to loose weight but insists i don't need to... Does anyone elses significant other do this? because it drives me insane lol

hey girl. my boyfriend sounds a lot like yours.. lovesss his junk food and thinks im crazy for dieting! hes always the one who says " just have one more slice" or a few cookies wont kill you". that is until he saw how much my measing and weighing payed off. i was able to get down 10lbs in 5 weeks. Men are silly things, they tend to find that paying attention to detail when it comes to food is pointless, but its not! just keep up your efforts. dont you worry, he will notice a huge boost of confidence in you when you are happy with yourself, and he will want to slap himself for not being more supportive :) just keep up the good work and good luck!

The main thing is to keep doing what you know you should be doing.  Once your boyfriend realizes that you are determined he will come around.  It is hard for people who can eat anything and not gain weight to understand how hard it is for us.  It must make it awfully hard on you when he brings his junk food into the house.  Ask him to keep it in the cupboard out of sight and to refrain from eating it in your presence.  Once you start to lose weight he is going to be pleased with how much nicer you look and he will become more supportive.  My hubby used to grumble when I first started measuring my food, but after he saw that I was going to stick it out and the weight began to come off his attitude changed.  He even buys Weight Watcher ice cream bars for me when he goes shopping because he knows how much I like them.  You should find some law calorie/low fat snacks that you can enjoy and keep them in stock.  There are lots of things on the market now that are quite good.  Don't become discouraged.  When your boyfriend gives you one of those 'looks' just smile sweetly at him and keep measuring.

My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts for wanting to lose weight. We are similar to what you said, I'm 5'4" and real "soft around the edges" if you know what I mean, and he's 6'5" and v. muscular. He says he likes me soft but I know how much better I'll feel when I get back down to a comfortable weight.  I didn't even tell him I'm on Alli, I'm actually trying to keep it a secret from him.

Same here, I haven't told my boyfriend and plan on keeping that way... i know he would get a huge laugh out of it, but it really is important to me to reach my goal weight and a healthy weight. I have been in the "overweight range" since i was in middle school and i weighed 135 in 7th or 8th grade which is what i am suppose to weigh now.... He just doesn't understand what its like because he has never had that problem (lucky him)

I agree with you BizzyLizzy. My future husband is so proud of me and he doesn't need to lose anything.  I want to do this for myself and for my wedding and honeymoon.  Which is in October.  I have until August to lose about 35-40 pounds.  I think that is reasonable, don't you?  That is when I have to go for my first fitting.  YAY!  HEHE

I am sure once he sees your losing weight he won't bother you anymore about it.

Re: Does anyone else have a partner who thinks their crazy for trying to loose weight?

I think it is very reasonable to assume you can lose 30-40 lbs by October if you keep diligently to the program, exercise regularly, and drink lots of water.  You will get out of this program what you're willing to put into it.  Whenever you're tempted to go off track just think of yourself in your wedding dress.  And focus on how much prettier, healthier, and self assured you will be when you reach your goal.  Tell yourself that sabotaging your goals by falling back into old habits is not an option for you anymore.  You're worth every bit of effort it takes to get to where you want to be.  But you've got to really want it.  It won't seem to be easy when you're getting there; but once you're there and looking back you will realize it wasn't that hard either.  Good luck.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I haven't told my husband that I started the program because I know he will give me such grief!!!  I just started yesterday and think I did pretty good for the first day. I have done Weight Watchers in the past and successfully lost down to 140 but just gained it back due to stress in life. I gave birth to our son in September of this year after gaining almost a hundred pounds during the pregnancy! I have managed to lose 50 lbs on my own but hope the Alli will help with the rest.

Well my skinny boyfriend eats ALL THE TIME.  He started out the same way until his doctor gave him a lecture because of his cholesterol.  Now he's eating my food!  (along with his typical junk food)

    Heh.
I'm a guy, and I definately don't think like that; I'm the one usually telling my sister or mom that their diets would work out better if they would pay more attention to details when it comes to food, but noooo.  They just don't.  Ah well.  I tried.

But yeah.  I know several guys are like that, but I've actually met alot of guys who aren't.  Alot of us guys are really the ones paying attention to details, too.
I guess it's just a matter of finding us, haha.

Butyeah.  I wish you all the best with your weight loss.
No matter what anyone says, don't stop doing what you're doing; you'll make it.  <3

Well he may look good but all the junk food will catch up with him eventually. There's more to health than how we look. Maybe he'll catch on and start to support you a little more when he starts seeing how much better you look and FEEL! He CAN"T feel good eating all that junk and sugar. Once your body gets used to healthy food you won't crave what he's eating and it'll become easier to ignore it:)

Re: Does anyone else have a partner who thinks their crazy for trying to loose weight?

My brother is 6"6 and my husband is 5'9, I'm the short round one. They think I'm crazy because of the treatment effects that I had on my first day....I didn't read carefully and I won't ever do that again!! Other than that they are supportive but they still eat all that junk food and bring it in the house. So I bought 90 cal. dark choc. puddings and I enjoy every bit of it!!
