I have to stop Alli! Side effects more than was told?

I am almost at my target weight. I was 154 when I started and am now 137. At 5'3 I am still a bit too heavy but I can manage the last pounds without Alli. I was told by my doctor that Alli was interferring with my bodys ability to absorb my hormone meds as well as depleting my body of needed vitamins and nutrients. My potassium is at a very low level due to Alli. I am eating three bananas as I'm typing this. My muscles and joints are weak and I have had knee joint and calf pain for about three weeks. I can say I had very few of the normal symptoms but by body can't handle the more critical side effects of losing vitamins and other needed nutirients. I wish all of you the best of luck but please be careful!

Hello. Sorry you have not been feeling well. I am wondering why you experienced this effect. alli is not commonly associated with depleting potassium levels. Do you take any other medications or use any supplements? How low was you rpotassium? Did your doctor prescribe a supplement to replace it? Have you been taking a multivitamin while on the alli plan? Have you been eating/ drinking adequately while on the plan?

To report the occurrence of treatment effects and/or any adverse events related to alli, you may call our customer service line at 1-800-671-2554 (M-F 9am to 9pm EST).

    Alli and low Vitamin D/potassium!

I was told by my doctor that Alli can interfere with the bodies intake of vitamins and other meds. My hormone pills were not effective with Alli so I was still having symptoms. In addition I was low in vitamin D and potassium and both of these things can cause muscle weakness, bone weakness and of course joint pain. I'm really sensitive to meds...for me half a pill of anything works the same as a whole pill to someone else. Alli helped me reduce from 154 to 137 but I have to stop taking it.  I urge others as I know you have to ask their doctor about the meds they are on and to have tests to make sure they are healthy. In the last day my diet of two bananas a day a multi vitamin and extra calcium have helped my joint pain some but it will take time. Best wishes to all in their journey to lose weight.

Re: Alli and low Vitamin D/potassium!

    hi

I have been having several stomach pains. It is not gas. It hurt so much that I couldn't eat. This and getting dizzy has been happening since I started the alli pills. I have been staying with the plan and losing weight. So I quit taking the pills for a week and the stomach pains have stopped but I still get dizzy sometimes. My blood pressure is fine and so is my blood sugar. So I am asking why this is happening? Should I start the pills again or stop altogether?

    Thanks

Re: Alli and low Vitamin D/potassium!

    Hi tkgmagang,

Unexplained stomach pains and dizziness that are persistent or severe needs to be checked out by a physician.  These symptoms can not be totally attributed to Alli use since, Alli is effective in the body for 2 hours and would be out of your system 72 hours after the last dose (yet you say you do still get dizzy).  How long have you been taking Alli? Have you noticed any other changes?

    Best of Health.

Re: Alli and low Vitamin D/potassium!

    hi

well the pain stopped when i decided to go off of the pills. I didn't take any for a week and it stopped. So that tells me that it had to be the pills. The dizziness I believe is from too much exercise and not enough food. So I am starting the pills again and see if my stomach hurts again. If it does then I know for sure that is what it is. I am in good health.

    Thanks

    Teresa

Re: Alli and low Vitamin D/potassium!

Just curious and definitely not trying to be rude, but you said you stuck with the plan, yet you say "Too much exercise and not enough food" which is probably why you're getting headaches and dizziness.

Even though I'm on the 6 Week Body Makeover plan, I eat all day every 2-2 1/2 hours and drink 100 oz. of water and am NEVER hungry, Alli's food plan is a lot of food to eat also and good food at that.  You've gotta protect your body.

As for the Vitamin D deficiency and sometimes Calcium, my doctor told me mine was low, too, but she's told me that forever and I'm listening this time and adding it with my nightly vitamin regimen.  I hope you don't quit taking Alli.  I really think you need MORE FOOD (small shrimp w/greens and a little dressing for a snack) (which is always good.)

    Take care.

Re: I have to stop Alli! Side effects more than was told?

I had a side effect of low potassium. I ended up taking my first ambulance ride to the ER with a level of 2.6. I was dizzy, vomiting, losing my bowels, and weak. It was not due to just Alli though. I was on a low dose water pill, I had given blood that day, and I was taking Alli. All three together caused the episode. Most vit/min don't have potassium, so just make sure you eat enough EVERYDAY. I love bananas, potatoes, and cantaloupe. I  hope this helps!

I'm not getting the 'SIDE EFFECT MORE THAN WAS TOLD" part of your post.  Water pills are notorious for lower potassium levels; especially if you're just taking drugs to lose weight and NOT EATING.  The loose bowels is a side effect of overdoing the fat limit.  Most good multivitamins DO have potassium in them.  Some health experts (gyms, health clubs, etc.) recommend a slew of vitamins and minerals.

This may come across as insensitive, but don't blame the Alli for your own double-dosing of the product.  Most people do not have these symptoms because they are following directions.  Treatment effects are there to alert us we've gone over our fat consumption.  Water pills are a temporary, and in my opinion, DANGEROUS.
