    Re: WII FIt

    Paul,

I would like to go sleevless at some point this summer.  One arm is bigger than the other.  Could you give me 3 or 4 exercises that would help me lose weight in my arms and also tone them.  Thanks

    Re: WII FIt

Hi I am new to the message boards here, but I wanted to comment about the wii fit. We bought one for the family close to two weeks ago and before this I hadn't exercised in years. I have gained 40 lbs in the last year and a half from quitting smoking so I have been taking alli for about a week now and using the wii fit every day for 40-60 minutes and have lost 7lbs.

I highly recommend it if you aren't the type that really likes to exercise and gets bored easily with walking, running etc or if you don't go to a gym. I am that type of person and now I am hooked on this thing. You get a great workout, there is different cardio exercises like step aerobics, strength training and yoga and also some fun balance games.

It keeps track of how much time you are on it and it also weighs you and shows your bmi and a graph that shows your progress. I really like it and I am 36 years old. I actually use it more than my kids' do and you will definately sweat.

    Re: WII FIt

    Hi Thinlynn,

It is not unusual to have one arm be bigger than the other - it is likely the one you use more often.  Unfortunately, we cannot "spot train" any areas of our bodies to lose weight in that specific area.  There are three factors that control weight loss and it happens throughout the body: diet, exercise and rest. The best way to lose weight and build lean muscle mass (anywhere on your body) is through regular cardio sessions and strength training work.

Walking is one way to get your cardio in.  Swimming and aquatic exercises are also great in the summer months, so if you can get to a pool, go for it. In addition to swimming, jogging, intervals, cycling, aerobics, etc. are all terrific.  You want to fit in at least three 30 to 60 minute sessions per week getting your heart rate elevated the whole time.

In addition to cardio, you can perform the strength training exercises recommended by alli to build lean muscle mass, which burns more calories and fat, even at rest. These should be done twice per week. Be sure to perform all of the upper body and core exercises, as well as your lower body.

For that stubborn area on your arms, the best exercises are pushups, triceps pull-downs, bicep curls, shoulder press will all help a great deal to strengthen the muscle. Simultaneously, as you lose fat in that area, you will see results.

    I hope this helps.

    Keep at it.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

    Re: WII FIt

    Hi Heather,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and helping others.

It's great that you've embraced exercise now and that you are actually enjoying it.  Keep at it for good results and be sure to try to incorporate two total body strength training workouts per week as well.

    Keep up the great work!

    Good Luck,

    Paul

    Re: WII FIt

My guess is once the Wii Fit has been out for a little while, they will start showing up on Ebay.  I'm sure it will be like the stereotypical "treadmill turned laundry hamper" - people will buy it, use it for a week, and then cast it aside.  Now it will be our turn to put it to good use.  I'm all about recycling!  :)

    Peace,

    Roey.

    Re: WII FIt

I bought one a couple fo weeks ago, and although it isn't the same type of exercise experience that I get at the gym, it IS fun and somewhat addicting. It would be an excellent tool for someone who hasn't exercised in a long while. I have been going to the gym 3-4 times a week for the past seven months, so I didn't know what to expect when I got this. I find that I am "doing" yoga (although I'm not sure how realistic the yoga experience is on the Wii) and am having fun trying to increase my balance and agility (I suck at snowboarding!). I do a daily body check, and it graphs my BMI and weight for me. Since I  am very visual, it is a nice thing to have. I bought it on ebay, but for more than the retail price since they are hard to find.... but, I got it two weeks ago, and when I looked at the prices on ebay recently, they had really shot up even more. I'm glad I got it when I did.

    Good luck!
