    B-12 deficiency

how much of a B-12 deficiency is caused when taking alli, and taking a vitamin?

I've been off alli for almost 2 weeks nows because I've come down with Bell's Palsy. All my viral tests and lyme tests came back negative, and in my research of Bell's Palsy I have found a B-12 deficiency can sometimes cause it. I was just wondering if  there is any correlation between me taking alli and why I got BP. Luckily I am recovering, but it is a very slow process. On a psoitive note, I have not gained any weight.

    Re: B-12 deficiency

Hi Michele,  Vitamins A, D, E, and K are the ones you need to worrie about as far as not being able to absorbe them.  These vitamins require fat in order to be absorbed into the body.  If you take a multi-vitamin before bed you should be fine.  Make sure it is at least two hours after you take your Alli pill.  This will help the body absorbe any A, D, E, and K's.  Most of the others do not require fat, they need water.  Anyway, I hope that this helps.  I was once told I had Bell's Palsy, but they were wrong.  It was really Multiple Sclerosis.  The MS just happened to attack the same nerve in the face as Bell's.  I hope you are doing well.

P.S. When we were eating, before we started Alli, most of us never came close to getting in the vitamins and minerals that our bodies required.  If we stick to our Alli plan (eat lot's of fruits and veggies) and take our multi-vitamin before bed we will get what we need.  I also take a B-12 in the morning with my breakfast.  My MS makes me so tired and lazy and the B-12 gives me a little boost for the day. I hope this helped you.  Good Luck with your weightloss!

I fell off the bandwagon a gained 11 pounds.  So far I am down 3.  I want to be 120 before April 15th!

    Re: B-12 deficiency

Thanks Rebecca. I'm doing okay, it's more aggravating and annnoying then anything else. I do take my multi, a Super B Complex, a C, Flax, Fish & Borage Oil and Biotin...so I figured it wasn't the B12...you just always question when there is no distinct cause for something like this. Intersteing about your diagnosis. BP definitely mimics alot of other things and is a diagnosis by elimination. Unfortunately in my area here in Connecticut, it is somewhat common because Lyme Disease is common, and the doc's jump right to that diagnosis. But I am one of those people who stays on top of things so I will make sure every avenue is explored. Luckily I am gettting better. It is absolutely amazing the things we never think about and take for granted. Like blinking and smiling...when you can't do either...it's a big wake up call!
