    Re: Reporting For May 6

    30 minutes aerobics

    200 crunches

    Carol Joy,

I'm not sure if I should count the 3 hours from May 5 as that was all heavy manual labor I was involved in.  Why don't we count that as my rest day.

Re: The May "Merry Mayhem" Challenge!

    Hi Ladies!

I had a realization yesterday that smacked me right in the face.

I was moving bags of cement and mortar yesterday when I saw the weight of one of the unopened bags...55 pounds.  I told my husband that that's about how much weight I've lost.  I never realized how heavy 55 pounds was until I stopped to think about it.

    Amazing!

     Take care everyone!

    Reporting For 5/1 to 5/6

    Name       May 1    May 2     May 3   May 4   May 5   May 6 = Totals

    Jane          120         120         120         30        30      35      =   455

May 1 to 6, all time is for walking.  Most days we walked a lot more than 2 hrs. and I carried a backpack with a sweater, rain slicker, water bottle and camera.  I fell late on the 3rd so that slowed me down a lot on the 4th. On the 5th we pulled our suitcases and backpacks a couple of blocks to the closest train station, then from the airport station through the airport, then had to claim and recheck the luggage after going through Immigration in Detroit and then reclaim the bags and pull them when we got to our final destination!  I didn't time my walking on May 5 but 30 minutes is a conservative estimate.  Tonight, there was beautiful weather, so we took a nice easy 35 min stroll.  I weighed this morning, and I'm down 1 1/2 lbs. from the morning that I left - I have probably never, ever before lost weight on a vacation!!

No crunches on any days (first read the challenge early this morning).

May 6 cal/fats 1180/57 - it was a very weird sort of half day for me and we only ate 2 meals and a snack.

Jayne - Congrats on the weight loss!  I, too, was surprised by the Japanese use of mayonnaise.  Our son helped us steer clear of pastries that look like they're cream-filled but are filled with mayonnaise or a mayonnaise and mustard combination (I like mayo on something like a BLT, but, to me, at least, this use of mayo and mustard is disgusting!).

Carol Joy and Patti - Thanks for the welcome back.

Carol Joy - In the States, I'm not much of sushi-eater because I'm concerned about the quality and safety of the raw fish.  Our son convinced me to not be so concerned in Japan and so I shared some sashami with him and it was very fresh and the Wasabi made it very good tasting.  My husband, who isn't very open to trying different foods, sat there disgusted-looking while he watched us eat the sashimi!!  I'm glad I tried it; to me, travel is about new experiences.  If you don't update my May 1 to 4, I more than understand!!

Question and answer: I think I was confused about counting strength training because the challenge post states: "DO NOT track the time this BONUS goal take to your overall daily total! You can earn the reward (15 min.) at the end of the challenge!"  So, I'm now interpreting that as cardio and strength training minutes count (30 min cardio and 30 min ST = 60 min Total), but, for this week, time spent doing crunches does not count, only the crunches themselves are counted.  If I'm still not getting the intent, let me know.

    Jane

    Re: Att Patti

    Hi klk1105,

I'm not quite sure how I lost all that weight so quickly.

The first month on alli was incredible.  The weight just poured off of me.  I wasn't able to do any type of exercise the first month because my weight prohibited me from even walking (I have hip dysplasia and the weight kept tearing my labrum).  After the first month on alli I was able to walk and walk I did.  I would take my trusty cane and iPod and off I went.  I started by walking one mile per day then I went up to 4 miles per day.

I wouldn't (and still don't) keep anything in the house that would tempt me and if the craving hit I would walk to the store and get a soda or fat free candy. I made a new rule for myself and the rule is, if I have a craving for something sweet I have to make it by scratch...no more walks to the store just for empty junk calories.  Last week I made individual-sized fat free, sugar free carrot cakes.  The week before that, I made fat free, sugar free banana bread.

I eat anywhere from 1100 to 1300 calories a day.  My main meals will contain fat but my two snacks are fat free.  I usually have yogurt, jicama, raisins, or an apple as a snack.  The apple really fills me up so that it is my favorite snack of all.  The jicama is great when it's extremely hot outside...tastes so good!

As for my exercises, I do a low impact aerobics dvd for at least 30 minutes a few times a day.  I walk everywhere, the last time I used the car was to drive to San Diego last week.

My weight loss has really slowed to a snail's pace but that's okay with me.  I have never felt so healthy in my life.  For the past 15 years I had to take a Zantac or Pepcid AC everytime I had a meal because I would get sick.  With the lessons I've learned from alli and the healthy choices I now make I no longer take my stomach medication.  I can eat my meals and actually savor them without getting sick.  Life is grand!

At first it was hard work, now it's just the way I live.

    Take care,

    Patti

    Re: Wednesday, May 7

    40 minute walk

    No crunches

Went into work and dnded up staying 9 hrs.  I got the promotion and it's effective on Friday.  They don't have a replacement for me yet in my old job so I'll probably end up doing parts of 2 jobs for about a month or so.  I'll have to be careful to include workouts into my schedule.

    Re: Tuesday and Wednesday

    Tues:  60 minutes.

Wed: Rest. I used to be able to make myself workout after 12 hour days at work, but I've been way too tired recently. I think I need to try to work it into my lunch time instead, although most days I'm too busy and eat lunch at my desk or in a meeting. No good.

Jane- Congrats on your promotion. I hope they hire someone for your  old job soon.
