    extra skin

    Hi,

I have slowly (over the last 3 years) lost 86 pounds, but I stalled out so I started taking alli. I started at 345 and I am now 259, and I want to get to 200.  (I am 6' tall woman)  I have thus far not had a huge problem with excess skin, but when I read about people losing weight so quickly, I wonder if any of you are having trouble with skin that just isn't shrinking as fast as you're losing.

    Just wondered.

     Thanks

    Re: extra skin

I haven't had any problem with any extra loose skin. But I've averaged 2.5 pounds weight loss a week which is just about what is recomended. Maybe if you were dropping 10lbs a week then you may have an issue.

    Re: extra skin

sadly, i'm discovering that even losing weight slowly, at the recommended rate, it depends on your age and the amount you lose as to whether you get left with extra skin. i know weights would help tone the muscle, but the skin isnt muscle, and i guess i should start saving now for that tummy tuck. i suppose this is a lesson to all the younger people on here- lose it now! and dont wait until you'll have extra skin to worry about once you lose the weight

    Re: extra skin

I still consider myself "young" (28 yrs old), but I've been so stretched out from my past pregnancies that I know there is no hope of my stomach and barely a little hope of my thighs going back to where they used to be.  It can be frustrating.  I know I can fit into a size smaller if it wasn't for the tummy "flap" (and mine isn't even that big, just enough to make pants fit right in the hips, but baggy in the legs).  I plan to someday have a tummy tuck, but I want to prove to myself that I can maintain my weight for a period of time (like a year or more) so I don't waste the money on it by gaining weight again and restretching the skin again.  In the meantime, I've been drinking water and using lotion to try and keep my skin hydrated.
