    What is wrong with me????

I am sooo upset with myself!  For weeks now, I start my healthy lifestyle on Monday and by Tuesday I can't stick to it anymore! I hate myself for it.

I used to be so good, so committed and motivated, and even though I can't stand the way I look, I just can't seem to stick with healthy eating and find an excuse every single day not to go and exercise!

     Why???

Re: What is wrong with me????

In order for Alli to work for you you have to be committed to the program.  You have to mentally prepare yourself.  You have to want to be healthier and more self confident more than you want to cling to the old habits that are so hard to give up.  We have had these bad habits for many years and it is going to be hard to make the changes we need to make.  You are worth the sacrifices you are going to make.  Your health and happiness are much more fulfilling rewards than the temporary pleasure you get from eating unhealthy foods.  And then the guilt and self loathing sets in as additional punishment.  You need to believe in yourself.  You need to believe that you can do this.  You purchased the pills, which are not cheap, so I know you want to succeed.  If you need support and motivation visit the message boards often, read them for information and support, and post so others will know how best to help you.

Stop making excuses not to exercise.  Exercise will actually help curb your cravings and will give you more energy.  I had to make myself initiate the exercise part of the program, but I can tell you that it is well worth every minute you put into it.  Now, if you can't handle adjusting to the healthy eating and the exercise both at the same time, begin with eating healthy.  Get rid of the junk in your house and stock up on healthy food.  There are so many delicious low cal/low fat foods available today that there is no reason to feel deprived.  If you like ice cream, for instance, Weight Watcher's makes absolutely wonderful fudge bars and ice cream sandwiches.  They have lots of other treats that I have not tried.  Supermarkets now stock aisles full of healthy snacks that you can choose from.  Until you get a good handle on eating healthy, plan ahead of time what you're going to eat each day.  When the cravings hit the best way to handle them is to get busy.  Do something.  Do anything. Just get active to take your mind off of eating.  If you are truly hungry a low cal snack like a piece of fruit will satisfy you.  If all you can think about is Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby ice cream, that is an emotional craving and not true hunger.

Now, you need to stop belittling yourself.  You're human.  This is hard.  But you can do it.  Stop telling yourself that you can't.  You're not weak.  You are just having a hard time making the changes in your life that you must make in order to lose the weight and become healthy.  Not many people  have an easy time of it from the word go.  If you will read the message boards you will discover than many people have to start over...some more than once...before they are successful at making these lifestyle changes.  Remember, too, that everybody slips up now and then.  Everybody.  Forget yesterday.  Forget what you ate at lunch.  You can't change that now.  What you can do is be in control of what you eat for the rest of the day.  You have to do this in baby steps.  One day at a time...or even one meal at a time...that is how I have to manage it.  There are numerous people here who will be glad to help you and give you all the support you need.  Don't get discouraged.  Don't give up.  Let me know how you do tomorrow.

Re: What is wrong with me????

Nothing is wrong with you!  I think most people on this board can relate to exactly what you are saying.  I have always said that losing weight is more mental for me than physical.  I know what I need to do physically.  It's a very simple concept.  Eat less, Eat healthy and Move more!  We are all smart enough to get that.  The mental part is the hard part.

I had a baby 9 months ago and the entire time I was pregnant I kept telling myself that the moment I got the ok to exercise I was getting back in shape!  I have always been in good shape but in both pregnancies I tend to gain ALOT of weight!  I knew I would gain alot and I had a plan for the whole 9 months!.  It took me 8 months to get my head to except the plan.  I would do exactly what you are doing.  I would start on a Monday and be done no later than Thursday.  If I lasted that long!!  I always tell my girlfriends that when you are ready to lose weight it will be like a light bulb going off and you will get moving.  You will not wait until Monday (seriously, who came up with the idea that a diet has to start on Monday - just an excuse to postpone.)  and you will you find the time to exercise.  It will happen for you and once it does you will be successful.  I wish I had some advice on how to get to that point - but I don't - everyone has their own trigger point.

I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one who feels like she is sabbatoging themselves!  Do not beat yourself up!!

Re: What is wrong with me????

Don't give up.  Try again.  Don't think of it as dieting either - that didn't work for me.  Just find foods that are better for you - for instance I love chips - I found that Lays has a few different flavors with no fat - I think 80 calories for one serving (20 chips) (one serving of pretzels is 130 calories and 3 grams of fat!)  I work full time, and I started bagging my lunch rather than getting a sandwich at the local deli.  It''s usually a tasty sandwich with mustard rather than mayo and some chips and water.   You wouldn't believe how great these chips taste - you cannot tell they are fat free!   I also found fat free tortilla chips with salsa - great snack!  Just watch the portions because of the sodium.  Carrot sticks and celery get old after a while.  There are so many cheeses that are made with 1% of 2% milk.  I love cheese too....  I've lost 5 lbs in 3 weeks - I'd love to lose it faster but that is not realistic.  Everyone says a slow, steady loss will stay off.  The 5 lbs wouldn't have come off if it weren't for Allie - all the posts I've read, suggestions from others and reading the nutrition facts/labels on the foods.  I don't feel like I've been deprived of anything that I want to eat.

Good luck!  Keep the board posted on your progress!
