Re: lunch on the go ideas

Lets see easy and cold on the go type food for lunch.  I am not sure what you are calling the same old thing, but I can tell you some of the items I take when I don't want a hot lunch.

Sandwiches come to mind first.  FF bologna, Tuna salad, chicken salad, pimento cheese (homemade of course).  Baked chips or lite ff chips.  Pudding cups ff, fruit cups sf, fresh fruits, assortment of veggies and some low fat dip, watermellon (any mellon).  Healthy crackers such as all bran.  Cup of your favorite dry cereal in a baggy.  100 cal. snack bars, homemade low fat salads such as pasta salad, green salad, slaw, etc.  Hope this helps some.

Re: lunch on the go ideas

I'm sorry if my question isn't about eating but since I noticed you've been on the program awhile (and very successful congrats!) I was hoping you or some other experienced alli user could help. I have stuck to the fat gram and caloric portion of the alli program and am losing wgt. as recommended but once in awhile I have treatment effects which to me make no sense. But that's not the problem or my question; I did use panty liners as suggested for weeks with not one problem then suddenly out of nowhere I'll get a slight treatment effect which stains my undergarments. Although I immediately wash the items and the stained area is very small I can't seem to remove the stain.  I've tried all types of laundry products and still can't remove the horrid orange color. Do you or any experienced alli users have any suggestions how to handle this problem I would be very grateful. Again for those who are losing weight congrats; I'm out here with you striving every day to eat healthy and get the weight off!

I also had unexpected treatment effects, and I immediately put a lot of Shout on the garments and they come out nearly clean (just a little discoloration that is really hard to notice unless you try really hard to find it).  I hope this works for you too!

What about making a chicken chef's salad?

Or making a modified sandwich.  Sort of like using a wrap or pita pocket.

One of the things my hubby and I do is a turkey club.  We will purchase a turkey breast and roast it and then cut slices and freeze to use at later times..

Any way the turkey club we make:

    We toast the bread.

    Low-fat mayo (we use mustard)

    turkery breast

two pieces of bacon (we buy center cut,  lower in calories and fat)

    lettuce

    tomato slices

Then we have pretzels and a piece of fruit

Or tomato soup with basil (we keep it hot in a thermos bottle).

I also found thermos food jars.  They have a larger opening.  So that way you can heat up somehting and it will still be hot at lunch time.  Just don't put it in the fridge.

Here is my pimento cheese recipe.  I like mine creamy with a slight Kick.  You can leave out the cayenne pepper if you like, but I think it makes it really good.

Pimento cheese spread Number of Servings 10

    Ingredients:

FF cream cheese - 3 tablespoons

Velveeta light cheese - 4 ounces

    mysugar:

I would love to hear how you make your pimiento cheese!

cut in tiny pieces (this is the hard part)

     FF Cheese - slices American - 10

Reduced fat Mayonnaise, I use Canola -  2 tablespoons

Pimentos cubed - 4-6 ounce jar

    onion powder 1/4 teaspoon

    pepper 1/2 teaspoon

Ketchup - 1 teaspoon (I know it sounds awful, but this gives it flavor and reduces the amount of mayo needed.

    paprika 1/4 teaspoon

    Course ground pepper 1/4 teaspoon

cayenne pepper to taste - 2 shakes

Recipe Preparation Notes: With electric mixer cream the cream cheese. Add 1/2 of mayo, smash the pimentos very well and add along with the juice. Combine the remaining ingredients, add the remaining mayo to suit your taste.  I like mine creamy.

    Refrigerate. Serving size 2 TBS.

Do not use FF shredded cheddar, is to dry. Use FF sliced, unwrap and stack. Spray a sharp knife with pam and slice / cut into equal tiny squares.

I eat a low fat yogurt with a slim fast.  I don't have any trouble (effects) with these items.  I also eat lots of tuna with equal amount celery to tuna on fat free saltines.

Re: lunch on the go ideas

I eat a flatout wrap everyday.  Tons of fiber and the taste can be mixed up by using different meats and 2% cheeses.  I also make a pot of soup most Sundays and then freeze it in 1c portions.  Soups a great way to get tons of flavor with less calories.  I also like pita chips with laughing cow cheese, cut up fruit, soy crisps, sugar free pudding, salads with nuts/cheese/vinaigrette.  And I'm big on fiber bars as snacks.  The best on the market (by far) are gnu bars.  You can get them at Whole Foods and Trader Joes...all natural, no preservatives, just full of fruit and whole grains.

Re: lunch on the go ideas

     Hey Momma2dog,

I have found that eating an avocado mashed with some salsa and celery sticks really satisfies me.  Sometimes I need to add more fat to my meals and this is a good tasting way to get it.  It is also quite filling.  You can also add a piece of fresh fruit to balance it out.  I also eat turkey sandwiches with mustard, lettuce, tomato and pickle chips.  Also satisfying with carrots, cucumbers and celery on the side.  I eat a fat free yogurt like Yoplait key lime pie for dessert.  Good luck to you.  Drink a lot of water to make yourself feel even fuller after a lunch meal.

Re: lunch on the go ideas

     Hi Peggy,

Lunch on the go .. that's pretty funny when you think about it :-)

There is a post in the want to lose 25-50 pounds forum titled "uh,oh. I may have blown it. Panic!"  If you have a sense of humor, go read the whole thread.  I've found some delightful, funny friends there.  To quote Heather:

"Alright ladies..Here it is HOW TO GET THE T.E STAINS OUT!!! LOl...goodness we are funny...anyhow as soon as the "grease" gets on the clothes you rinse them right away! let them soak in some oxy clean for awhile and then wash them with a color safe bleach and oxy clean...Thats how I got mine out..lol..for one huge ummmm T.E spot (lol) it took 2 washes...but like all stains if it didnt wash out all the way the first wash..dont dry it...I washed it in cold as well...I went with the same thing you do in a period spot..lol"

    Good luck on your journey!

    Mary

Re: Lunch on the Go Ideas

There are thermos products made specifically for carrying food items. I have one that is short with a wide mouth. It's perfect if you want to take hot soup or some warm pasta on the go. Food stays warm for a long time. Just a thought since eating cold lunch's everyday might get old (my taste buds get bored easily).

Re: Lunch on the Go Ideas

I have really been enjoying the "crunchy tuna salad" recipe on myalliplan.  I sometimes eat it for dinner!

3oz tuna with 1/4 cup cooked and cooled frozen peas, 1/2 stalk celery (I often sub onion), leon zest, curry powder and 1tb each of light mayo and nonfat plain yogurt plus a few tb of chowmein noodles.  Put it on top of a green salad.  They then suggest a banana and some peanut butter to reach your cals/fat of 600 and 19g.

I just LOVE the tuna salad...  I sometimes sub salmon instead of tuna. (one of the individual ouches from chicken of the sea I think)

    Its so good!
