Re: Help Husband wants pizza tonight!!

MMMM pizza. Love it, however it does not love me. So what I do is when we go on a pizza outing I prefer to eat at Uno's Chicago Grill. They have lots of low-fat options (its under the less the 5g of fat on their nutrition log). Since we try not to eat out often I make pizza at home. I'll get a whole grain premade pizza crust, then instead of pizza sauce I take stewed tomatoes and season them up. I'll cut them a little bit place them on the crust. Then I like mushrooms and spinich, but you can use whatever you like. I tend to go for lean turkey sausage if the family wants meat. I just don't eat it. Then top with some low-fat cheese. This is pretty filling and as long as you watch the fat on what you top it with you should be good. The kids enjoy it because I'll let them top their own pizza. When I bake it I don't put it on a flat tray. I'll get a metal rack, and place it on a cookie sheet. This keeps the pizza crust from sitting in any oils or liquid.

This won't work for everyone, but for me what I like best about the pizza is the sauce and the crust. When I make my pizza I make a thin crust, put on some sauce and veggies, and then use just a sprinkle of cheese to bind the toppings to the pizza. The cheese isn't something I miss and leaving most of it off cuts a lot in terms of fat and calories.

I am on the other side of that my favorite is the cheese (miss it).  I love mushrooms also so I add the mushrooms and when I can find it a little extra ff cheese.

Theresa,  try fresh mozz.  It's so much tastier, a little goes a long way and it melts!  NF cheese doesn't.

Basil, garlic, oregano .. fresh if you have it.  Flavor instead of bulk.  Drizzle .. and I mean drizzle ... a little olive oil on top.  Helps meld everything together.  Salt doesn't hurt either.  Just a pinch.

And OH yes for the mushrooms.  Practically no calories in those.  Throw them in a sautee pan with a spray of PAM for a few minutes until they get a little soft.  Very good!
