    Vitamin D deficiency

I love the results I've gotten from alli.  I started at the end of December 2007 and have now reached my goal.  I've lost 26lbs.  I took my alli pills religiously even though I didn't always stick to my activity plan.  I took my Centrum (silver) and Caltrate +D every night.

However, I have now been diagnosed with osteopinea and an extremely low Vitamin D count.  So low in fact, that I am now taking a 50,000 IU Vitamin D pill once a week for the next 3 months.  In reading up on Vitamin D deficiency, the article from the NIH specifically mentions Orlistat (alli).

Is this common or am I in an "at risk" group?

    Re: Vitamin D deficiency

Reduction in the body's ability to absorb fat soluble vitamins are the reason for the nightly supplement.  Do you get out in the sun regularly?  I think your doctor is probably the only one who could determine if you are in an at risk group.  Did your doctor tell you to discontinue Alli?

I think that would be an excellent question for the pharmacist.  Try posting this on the pharmacy board.  I would be interested in hearing their thoughts.

Congrats on your weight loss so far!

    Re: Vitamin D deficiency

I'm in the same boat as you. I was having leg weakness and had vitamin testing done to see if that was the problem. I am extremely deficient in vitamin d. So bad that I am also taking the 50,000 IU pills, but I have to take them twice a week for the next 12 weeks. I was told to stop taking alli because it was hindering the absorption of the vitamin d.

    Re: Vitamin D deficiency

No, she hasn't, but I got the results from one of her nurses over the telephone.  She knows I'm taking it, but she may not have put 2 and 2 together.

I do get out in the sun regularly because I love to work in my yard.  Since my previous posting, my other doctor, who is a hematologist, says that I am anemic also.  I asked if one had to do with the other and she said no.
