    Re: Starting week three

Ugh, unbelievable that today I feel like doing NOTHING.  I had a walk scheduled with some stretching, but I am still SORE from yesterday's workoout.  I've just laid back today and done NOTHING but read....lol.  I feel like I need a "me" day every now and then....tomorrow I promise to be back on track 100%

    Re: Starting week three

     Hello to Gary and Roxanna,

This is my third week into the alli program, and you all got my attention. I don't even know where to begin asking questions so I was wondering if you all would be so kind to help me.  You all seem so helpful! I have had a few people tell me that they have taken the alli pill and they would eat anything and everything they wanted.  On top of it, they both lost tons of weight! I decided from the get go that I would do it the right way.  I started at a gym doing an hour of cardio plus working with weights 4-5 days a week.  I have been good on my diet. I try to eat special K twice a day with a sensible dinner. I have cut back quite a lot! I use to eat chocolate every night, and I started snacking on 100 calorie packs once a day. I was told I would be going to the bathroom quite frequently and that is not the case really. It has been three weeks, and I have lost about 5 lbs.  But I have always fluctuated back and forth with those 5 pounds and so I don't really feel successful. I feel good about exercising but very discouraged.  I don't see any results on my body.....in fact I tried a pair of jeans on and they were tight...tooo tight......I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I would sure appreciate any tips! Thank you so much,

    Desperate for help,

    Vickie

    Re: Starting week three

     Ok vickie,

    This is my opinion only...

You are working out and that is good but in my book you may be doing it to much! Working out in moderation is more important than what I call body building which puts on muscle and muscle we all know is heavier than fat so you seem to be converting fat into muscle and that is why you are seeing so so results.

lets talk about ALLI first! Alli don't allow you to eat all you want when you want...thats not the way it is designed to work and that would do more damage than good. Get on the plan and follow it to the letter! stay under the calories and stay under the FAT intake and drink lots of water to flush the system.

Stay away from those worthless calories that the manufactorers claim are low calorie...I call them LOST calories that do us no good. Incorporate lots of veggies and fruits into your daily diet and back off the fat. become highly knowledgable on what you eat at each meal.

I record what I eat in the nutrition log on here after every meal. If it's not in the database I add it from the labels. Cut back on the sodium...a big one when it comes to water retention. Workout but don't overdue it...remember your body has to feel change to get onboard with it. You may not see the effects for weeks but it is coming off in areas you normally don't see FIRST then it's to the saddle areas where it is like a couch potato and don't want to come off but will if you keep on track.

FOLLOW THE PLAN AT ALL COSTS AND DON"T VEAR OFF and you will see it work! Don't expect big chuncks to come off weekly 1-2 lbs is where they want you. Keep active and nothing in the mouth 3-4 hours before bed and you will see results.

    Gary

P.S...I should be working for ALLI!!!! LOL

Get of your dead ....and do something! No pain no gain lady! I discovered a new treat...No Fat Yogurt with Grape nuts!

    YUMMY!

CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF....Chinese food has alot of hidden calories and fat grams so watch out and stay away from the egg rolls! One egg roll equals 18 grams of fat.

    Re: Starting week three

LOL Gary, oh yea I totally agree Chinese food is super fattening, too bad it's so yummy....not to worry it's Mexican that gets me not Chinese LOL :)  I'm happy to report that I'm out of my dead now!  hehe....but if you like to read, wow I could hardly put that book down yesterday it was GOOD. :)  Today I'll do my 2 mile run and weights.

Vickie, Vickie, Vickie...hehe Welcome!!!  Feel free to join us!!!  Okay, everything Gary said I back 100% kinda, lol :)  Everything except I LOVE weight training.  However, he is 100% correct in everything he said.  I would stay on the diet to a t, but I run 2 miles 3x a week and I lift HEAVY 3x a week with walking in between on my rest days.  So, coming from experience....forget the scale for a while.  Instead get out your tape measure!!  I only lost 6 lbs on Alli in the month of June, but I lost 6.5 inches!!  Muscle is wonderful for your body!!  But, it weighs more than fat so even though you look in the mirror (like I do) and feel like wow you can see a difference, the scale says "no difference here hehe".  The scale is a mean mean tool...lol.  Another thing I noticed back when I first started lifting again is that muscle grows UNDER the fat and would actually make me look more bloated cause it pushed the fat out..LOL  Talk about a nightmare.  But STICK WITH IT!!  It will help you in the long run.  I'm happy to say this is my 6th week running and strength training and the pounds are finally start to go downhill, and I'm looking more and more toner.  It does take a while for effects to start taking hold as well.  Okay, now about your food.  It sounds like your doing a great job following your calories, but you need to try to cut back on manufactured/processed foods and get more lean protein, fish, complex carbs, fruits & vegies (you should look into Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet)!  Also, WATER WATER WATER... can NOT say that enough!  If you incorporate all this into your new lifestyle, not only will you lose weight slow and safe, but by next year you will be beyond where you thought you would ever be!!!  Good luck to you girl!!

Okay, off to make the most of my day! :)

    Re: Starting week three

Thank you, to both of you for your support. I will try to stear clear of the manufacturer calories, and try to cook more at home.  I am a teacher so I am on summer break. Since my husband doesn't get home till later in the evening, I tend not to cook breakfast or lunch.  Thanks for the info on the weight lifting as far as the muscle growing under the fat. I think that is what I am experiencing right now. I feel great working out, actually I am starting to love it. I look forward to hitting the gym, and I love feeling like I am on my way to a healthier me.  I guess I come from a generation that wants results like yesterday.  I am over anxious. But I keep telling my self I can only be helping myself and not harming myself by exercising and eating better. I also keep telling myself that I will see results sooner or later.  The thing is I also have a husband who can eat food like crazy and not gain weight. SO I am trying to get him on a better track too....for my sake....Well thank you for your help, and I do plan on keeping up with it.  Congrats to both of you on your weight loss success. I will be checking in on you all for motivation for myself.
    Thanks so much,

    Vickie

    Re: Starting week three

Okay Gary...I've been lurking around waiting to hear your awesome loss this week!!!  And the verdict is???.... :)

Vickie, your welcome!  You will do fine, just take those baby steps!

Well, I'm interested to see how my weigh-in goes Wednesday.  I haven't been on the scale since last weigh-in and I don't feel much different this week LOL...so I won't be surprised if the dreaded scale sits on my weight for a week or two...seems that is the norm for me...but hey slow and steady wins this race :)

    Re: Starting week three

Ok Roxxie....as I thought last week that a plateau was lurking around...it has came out this week as there was no loss and no gain for lor me. It's your time to SHINE this week! I styart going tonight to the YMCA and start swimming again followed by a steam sauna and a hot tub.

No dissapointment here! I am just happy to have maintained but I know I should do well this week...

:)  I ate chinese one night so I probably put on the salt to much and it plugged me up...water water water...

WATER is the word of the week for me!

    Re: Starting week three

Well that is good Gary, no GAIN is always a good thing!!  I on the other hand gained 4 pounds this week!  YIKES!!!  TOM is next week and I hope that I'm just retaining water, as I have been continueing on my diet and exercise plan...but I did have a blah moment toward the end of last week.  Alas, I am not going to let it get the best of me :)  I'm going to continue on my path and just hope for a loss next week!

    Re: Starting week three

Roxxie....you sly little fox...Cut back on that salt! eat protein and veggies...cut fat intake down more. I think since I lost nothing last week that it is taking off now for this week as I feel different so my hope is for 2 lbs at least.

Keep the faith....move forward with me...

    Keep pace...we will get there!

    Re: Starting week three

     Roxanna,

I appreciate you posting a picture and I hope you don't mind me writing. I am new to the program just started last saturday and what a life change.  I just read you and Gary's chat. What does it mean to be copper, bronze or silver?  I have my first weigh in Thursday night after church. A Sister from the church ways me weekly. Then once a month she is going to measure my inches.  I have walked 3 miles a day for exercise to start with (as I write I am dealing with 2 blisters on my feet ~ all because I decided to take a walk during lunch in my work shoes...bad idea.) I have kept to less than 1800 calories. The food plan on the Alli program is a bit expensive for me. I spent 2 1/2 hrs Monday night preparing food for the week...thank God for Tupperware! I'd appreciate tagging with someone who is on the say "system/" Most of the ladies from church are dong weight watchers. One thing I notice is I am always thirsty.  Even in the middle of the night....is that odd.  Chow Chow. Zoe

     Zoe,

Welcome to our world...glad you enjoy our conversations...me and roxxie have a click going and we seem to feed off each others experiances both ups and downs...You can pick and choose but don't have to follow the ali food plan exactly...it's only good recommendations. You can eat but you just need to watch the caloric intake and most importantly the fat grams...stay below it or treatment affects may visit you...lol

Remember you have to eat to loose weight and muscle is more weight than fat...moderation is the key. Drink lots of water, stay away from the salt and suger...there are great alternatives that you need to explore.

I will post a pic soon...i'm just not a major tech on computers...never get discouraged 1-2 a week is good to lose...takes longer to get it off than put it on...

    Gary

the bronze silver and gold is based on our contributions to the forums...we are very active with them.

    Re: Starting week three

Hello Zoe!!  Like Gary said Welcome to our world! Hehe!  We would love to have you on board!!  I unfortuneately have found out hard way that I obviously need to get me another bottle of Alli as it seems to be the only thing that keeps me on track!  So, as soon as possible I will do that.  Until then, I will just continue to watch my food intake, do my exercises, and drink my water!!

It is great that you are having someone take your measurements!  With me gaining weight this week, the only thing keeping my head up high is knowing that I've lost inches!! :)  So, measuring is very important....the scale can be mean at times and very dissappointing.

Good luck to you on your journey and if you need any support feel free to discuss with us!!

Well, today has been a great day!  My son and I have been in the pool alll morning and just came in a while ago for lunch and now I'm going to try to get him to take a nap!  :)

    Make great choices today!
