    Re: Starting week three

I hope I am posting in the right area. I am new at posting to these boards. I have been reading alot of different posts and for all the women out there that may come to a standstill or gain a pound.... I do that right at 5-7 days before I have my monthly. So I am thinking this is why men lose so much faster than us women? As we have about 1 week each month where we retain and our metabolism slows. Anyone have knowledge on this subject ? Well I too am beginning my 3rd week and started at 203 and am down to 196. I know ALLI is working for me because I was 215 in Feb 2008 and it has taken me over 6 months to take off 12 lbs and in 2 weeks I have knocked off 7 at a steady pace since taking ALLI with little or no exercise. Any advice, support or comments would be greatly appreciated.

    30 pounds & 24" inches lost !!   My mini goal for my weigh-in on 12/9 is 169 !

3 1/2 MONTHS on the Alli Plan and lost 30lbs !!!!!

    Re: Starting week three

    Hi Mwok2004,

Congratulations on your success! There is nothing wrong with starting out by focusing on making changes to your diet without adding any activity. As you lose weight it will become easier to move and then you can add activity to your plan. Every pound that you lose takes 4 lbs of pressure off of your joints so you will definitely feel the difference when you do begin to increase your activity.

The reason why men tend to lose weight faster than women is because they tend to have more muscle than we do. Muscle is the engine that burns fat so having more means that they burn more. Women can increase their metabolism by building some muscle so it's a great idea to add some strength training to your routine once you are ready.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Re: Starting week three

     Roxie,

I had my typical plateau again after last weeks 3 lb loss so I suspect another plateau this next monday then a few pounds loss again. The Alli dietician told me thats the way my body is adjusting and that it was good as I am still losing on average 1-2 lbs average a week. Clothes are definately loose...had to make a new belt hole on my belt because of the reduction. looks like 6 inches gone around the waist so far...doing good here

Glad to see you lost 4 lbs! A big boost for sure! Give me another 4 lbs this week...:)

Thanks Betty... I have decided to make use of my gym membership starting this morning. So I will do cardio 3 times a week and weight training twice a week. Do you think that is enough strength training? Also Is it bad if I do not reach my 1800 calories each day? I do at least eat 1200 or more. Thanks for your reply.

    Re: Starting week three

    Hi Amanda,

The best plan is one that is based on what you have been doing and what you are able to do. If you can comfortably handle 2 days a week of strength training than go for it. You may want to see if your gym offers free personal training sessions for new members. It would be great to get a personalized plan developed for you. You can also look into classes for your resistance exercise.

I don't recommend going any lower than 1500 calories right now. Here is a post that explains why in detail http://community.myalli.com/forums/t/18013.aspx.

    Re: Starting week three

Gary, maybe you will lose big this week!  I stayed the same :)  which I'm okay with.  So I've lost a total of 14 pounds these last 14 weeks.  Not the BIG number that some people are dropping, but I'm doing good I think.  I just hope to see constant loss and I'm okay with losing it slow.  I think it will stay off better that way anyways.

Sorry I'm not on here as often as I use to be.  I started my fall semester back and it is my last year in my program and it is really stressfull.  So, I do read everything, even if I can not reply right away :)

Take care and have a good weekend!  As for everyone else, keep up the great work you guys!!!

    Re: Starting week three

     Roxie,

14 lbs in 14 weeks is right on the 1 lb per week mark...your doing good...shoot for the 1 lb average and anything over is a bonus loss. I think I will be 2 lbs at least lower maybe more...but something is better than nothing.

    Write when you can...Gary
